I guess what I find lacking is a greater sense of purpose and "presentation". Take Metallicas recent worldwide 72 Seasons tour; the look, the setup, the variations with the daunting "no repeat weekend" concept. The yellow and black theme. It was so fresh and it challenged both the band and the audience.
Ok. Fair enough. You think playing two shorter shows in the same venue on two nights is better than one.
You want a gimmick. Like "we're playing in the round", "we're celebrating Album X by playing it in full" or "we won't play the same songs on two nights".
But in reality most bands just call the tour something new, and still play about the same amount of "new" material as before.
I do wonder what the reaction would be if GN'R played two hour shows, excluded some of their hits and mixed up the setlists. For example, you wouldn't get Estranged at every show, or Nightrain etc.
/jarmo
Both Estranged and Nightrain are highlights of the show for me. I could live without 10 minutes of Knockin on Heaven’s Doir though

It's an idea. As I'm getting older, I do like shorter shows. I went to see Slipknot a few days back, setlist was just an hour and a half, it was really good. I remember seeing the Cure years ago when I was in London, and don't get me wrong I like them, but their show went on and on, multiple encores. It became a chore and we left early. I like theme tours, I saw Def Leppard do their Hysteria tour, I like all that kind of thing

Three hour shows aren't exactly the norm.
Not sure if fans expect long shows from GN'R, or not....

Ticket sales for Wembley don't look too healthy...
Same here in Denmark.
We're gonna wait it out and see what this tour is first - what the idea is.
If it's like 2011-2023 (nostalgia tours) or if there is a major change this time and/or perhaps even a new album.
We'll sit it out if it's yet another nostalgia tour.
This part I don't exactly understand.
What do you expect would happen with the release of new material?
They put out four singles between 2021 and 2023, all of them were played in 2023. Plus fan favorites like Bad Obsession, Pretty Tied Up and even Anything Goes.

The GNR tours (2011-2023) have felt very much the "same". Even with the semi-reunion. When your discography isn't as big, it is harder to shake things up - and I get that. It has felt very "jukeboxian" to me since that first couple of touring years with Chinese AFTER the album came out (2009-2010). They did indeed shake things up.
However, I have a feeling that what I want... is not what I am gonna get
And that's actually fine
Just gonna wait it out and see before we make arrangements.
I'm totally in the same camp.
Seen GNR play in Norway in 1993, 2006, twice in 2010, 2018 and 2022.
Now we're like 8 years into this "semi-reunion-tour".
Gonna wait with buying tickets and see if the band will actually release "something". The singles during the last few years were cool. Last couple of gigs I could justify spending money on tickets, plane and hotel with "cool, they started playing Bad Obsession, Down On The Farm, Slither etc etc etc..."

I get that. But I also know from personal experience that sometimes things don't go as you might have imagined. Didn't have money to see GN'R in 1993, figured I'd catch them on the next tour. Well, my next GN'R show was in 2006.
Don't take it for granted that tours will come near you in the future, because they might not. Like I mentioned, it took 13 years for GN'R to return to Sweden.

Jarmo when do you think GNR will announce dates for a North American leg? Saw them 2 years ago at MetLife stadium and it was one of my favorite concerts! Thanks in advance.

Yes.
Although I think gimmick is an unfairly "gimmicky" word to use
It's doing something different. Instead of just rattling off songs endlessly, and a majority of them in the same set sequences. For almost 15 years of touring now, give and take.
I know it is extra difficult when you only have a certain amount of songs and material to draw from. But the presentation then matters more; I've seen enough sparkly waterfalls during November Rain and bathed in enough confetti during Paradise. It's clearing the cache and onboarding a whole new show. Switching songs around and generatiing a new sense of purpose... to share with the audience.
Speaking of short shows: In 1993 at Gentofte Stadium here in Denmark, GNR were late and only played about 90 minutes. They got crucified! So yes. This was also in the context of Metallica and Springsteen having the aura they had (at the time) of playing 3 to 4 hour marathon events. So, as always, Guns took the blame for, well, being different! Granted, an hour and a half is short for a stadium or arena show - then as now - to my optics. At my age now, however, I need to get home and get my sleep

I agree. I am so bummed we missed out on Axl/DC when they came to Aarhus in Denmark. Just couldn't make it (could if I had made more effort..), and I/we truly regret it now. It had been a fantastic show according to everyone I have talked to, and from what I have seen and listened to.
I did get to see Guns in Copenhagen in 1991 and in 1993 (as mentioned in the post above) but we also had tickets to Globen in Sweden for that 2001 show. After the insane glory of RIRIII.
I have the Globen tour poster framed. Cherish it. Even though the tour was pulled. The kamikaze pilot and chinese-food font. Stuff of GNR legends now. Yes, next time would be 2006.

You'd be happy to know that there were no pyro at the shows in years then!

100% to this. Realistically the band is in its third act. We are way closer to the end than the beginning or middle at this point, with GNR and the other bands mentioned in this thread. You never know when they might decide they don’t want to do it anymore. I will always go to every show I can, and I never take it for granted, I treat every show like it could be the last. It’s probably the main reason I don’t get wrapped up in set lists or new songs and stuff like that. That stuff is cool and I get it, but just having GNR travel to a town I can get to is still awesome to me.

How many fans skipped GN'R shows in the first fifteen years of the 2000s because "it wasn't GN'R"?
Today marks 15 years since GN'R played at the Tokyo Dome. The longest GN'R show up to that point. GN'R broke that record in 2017 at the Forum in Inglewood.

I saw them in 2006, 2011, 2012, 2016 and 2017 but by then I needed a break since I didn't want to drop big bucks on almost the same group of songs. At this point enough time has passed. I'd go see them in 2025 if they come within driving distance.

Saw them twice on the 2002 North American tour, and anyone who skipped those Buckethead shows really missed out. 2002 Albany and the 2006 Hammerstein shows are still among my favorites that I’ve ever been to.

That is the holy grail to me. The 1999-2002 version of the band. Enjoyed it so much... from a distance. Never got to see a show. But RIRIII and one or two of the 2002 US shows (and the 2006 German Rockpalatz show), I have probably seen more times than any other GNR live show on video.

I've seen GNR four other times in Finland, once in Rotterdam, and once in Tallinn, but never could I have imagined they would be coming to my hometown. But now they do. I don't have to go see them; they come to see me!

I've seen this lineup twice. First at Leeds 2002, then at MSG, the last show ever with this lineup.

But nice to see shows outside of Helsinki.

They seem to be aiming for new places this time around. They've played both Oslo and Bergen before, now it's Trondheim. I don't believe they've played in Aarhus before either.

Pretty insane really, given the time we were living in. Any original member joining in was a pretty far fetched thought.
I think the press and interviews given in 1999-2002 painted a picture of Axl completely removed from the old band, but I think in reality it was mainly an Axl/Slash thing.
