Just had this posted to a news feed I'm subscribed to https://metalwani.com/2024/09/duff-mckagan-confirms-new-guns-n-roses-album.html?fbclid=IwY2xjawH2821leHRuA2FlbQIxMAABHf5jZgglVlOzV4wvNOf5K5KfLNlJMO9gNH6uCPYt25HNKwMP6xTrIZMvsw_aem_Hgbtv25Ldr8pf8j0ewPYtw

Either they didn't listen to what he said, or they are just interested in creating a headline. He said he doesn't wanna release his next record while GN'R is doing stuff. "There's more Guns stuff to come here, sooner than later".

Slash about a next LP :

"That said, the band have released only four songs since 2008’s oft-delayed album Chinese Democracy, which Slash was not involved with.
Their gigs still sell tickets, but will we ever see a new album from him and Rose? “We just haven’t really got there yet,” he says,
in a manner that suggests they never will."

It's hard to maintain that enthusiasm and drive that creates the magic in a project when it drags out.  I think it's time to give it up.  Do something else that stirs the creative mind to live.

yeah if they have done nothing together since 2016 I don't see something coming before 2030, so that's unlikely to have a full GNR record.
I suppose we have to wait for the rest of the singles composed by the precedent line up, and that's it.

how many are they?

"Ol? Ol? Ol?, Axl Axl!!!"

« Reply #385 on: January 22, 2025, 10:54:00 AM »

Yeah, don't tell me, what a surprise  rofl.

Guy, I mean, 1 album in 31 years. If we dont consider the spaghetti incident it's 1 album in 33 years. Wtf are we talking about?  rofl rofl Like i said many times, i won't be surprised if Slash leaves. He probably won't because somehow after years of  fighting he kinda enjoy being around Axl, but that's it. Knowing him as a workaholic, it really frustrates him, no freaking doubt. Axl probably thinks he "earned" some extra years (like when he changed all those line ups, so there was always an excuse to procrastinate CD and to put up another tour with some kind of surprise effect). You know... people is happy because gnr are back, then after years he put out a couple of ultra old songs here and there to show that he's doing something and so on  rofl rofl.  Guys just stop believing he's doing something, history is there to be seen. And now look at the title of the new tour, he probably thinks that his irony is still cool or something, while it's just upsetting, even knowing that he can barely sing a couple of songs nowadays. He obviously has all the rights to play his cards like that, shows keep gathering people so its 100% the winning choice, it's just not for me.

At least he's not getting peoples' hopes up!  ok

Some might not like the singles approach, but it makes sense. The hardcore fans will find those singles. There's no pressure of finishing X songs for an album or silly expectations of it being another Appetite.

Albums make sense to those who are locked in on that way of doing things, and keep mentioning the obvious "they haven't released an album since ____" .  But most hardcore fans just want music, no matter the format it takes. If they decide to make an album, great. If they wanna keep releasing singles, great.

Edited to add: But that's just my personal opinion.

And I was just thinking about Steven.  He got some kind of award in LA.  I don't think he dressed himself for that.  He looked like he didn't want the attention.  Strange, he's normally more energetic than that.  Introduced as being from Guns N Roses.

Anyway, nothing against Frank, Steven brings the magic to some of those songs.

The unrelease material according to Axl, if I remember correctly, was two albums worth from the CD era.  Then there's shit that has been hanging around and stuff that has been submitted for consideration.  But it all dies when confronted with all the reasons it can't go forward.  So the answer is zero as it stands.

I think the expected obligation that the band will put out something is just a burden nobody should be carrying around.  Let it go and get on with the things that make them and the fans happy.  Tell us it all burned up in the LA fires, dust in the wind.  Tells us some of it may live but you can only hear it in concert.  Leave us with hope of a live album someday and release us from the expectation something is being worked on and going to come out.

I remember listeneing to an audio bootleg from 2002. Think it was at Docklands Arena in London.

Axl said something similar to:
"The plan is to release an album, then tour. Release the second album, then tour. And when that has run its course, I should be done with the third album. This is a three-way thing..."

I think the discussion is more about the fact that they didn't write anything new rather than the publishing format.

Depends how you look at it. Did they sit together and write a song? Maybe not. They've been busy with other projects pretty much since the tour ended in 2023.

Do they all have song ideas that they haven't worked on together (yet)? Possibly.

Duff has talked about how he writes song after song, and some of it ends up on his solo albums. Slash probably has riffs he hasn't used for his solo records.

oh I'm confident that Duff and Slash worked on parts of songs that could perfectly form complete tracks for GNR.
Duff even mentioned a composition he wrote which he believed would make a good song for GNR.

fact is Slash hinted they haven't presented anything to Axl that he has approved or that has inspired him to write lyrics to turn it into a song.
they've had plenty of time to do that since 2016, both outside of and during the tours, so that's not really an argument either.

no new song written by this 'new' lineup in 9 years is not a good sign of new stuff being in the works, especially when you consider how much time Axl needs to write.

I think the whole "they haven't written anything together since 2016" is misleading. Because they reunited when they were offered to play shows in April 2016.

The fact that they didn't release anything pre-pandemic should give you a hint about what the focus was. And the fact that they have used breaks to work on songs, that were later released, proves that they switched the focus to getting songs released. But not until some years into to reunion era.

You also forgot that when the band has taken breaks between tours, some have worked on solo projects. So to claim they've had all this time to work on a new album might be true in a perfect world, but that's not always how things go.

all of this is factual, but they could have done both: toured and written songs together.
as you said yourself, Slash and Duff worked on the old tracks owned by Axl, which probably didn’t take much time, and have mostly worked on solo projects in recent years.

why? probably because either 1) they proposed tracks to Axl that were rejected for Guns, or 2) they didn’t propose anything because they weren’t asked, and Axl didn’t request anything other than working on the old tracks.

it is what it is, we have nothing to say, it’s their decision, but it’s just a shame to see that their reunion hasn’t sparked any excitement on that level.

and if Slash says they’re still not there after 9 years of being back in the band, it probably means it’s not going to happen.

Not in 2016 or 2017. 47 GN'R shows, plus AC/DC, and 83 shows.

Well, we don't know. Just because they haven't finished an album doesn't mean there's nothing.

Any guess what's going on with Slash's wrist/hand?  Is that Ozzy behind Duff in the picture?

They're going to start looking very seriously at what they're doing in that regard.
