You're all out of objective journalists in the US?
Yes we are. Journalism without a twist and spin, entertainment doesn't sell. Journalist who can't sell the news have no place to report. Our newspapers and magazines are almost gone. It's all about ratings and number of hits. It's not about bias and conspiracy, it's about selling the news. Take a side and entertain it up.
First of all, no, we have Reuters and Associated Press if you want pure recitation of facts. Second, simply taking a stance is not a bad thing. For example, when it comes to sex trafficking, I would not call somebody refusing to take a stance against it neutral. The same goes for Fascism. Likewise, if a political leader is ringing every single alarm bell of Fascist ideology, you would not be impartial to ignore that and refuse to point it out.
Simply put, the idea that one can never take a stance on any issue without being a partisan hack is absurd (to be clear, I'm not saying you are necessarily suggesting that). Unfortunately, the truth does not actually just so happen to lie in the middle all the time. Sometimes one side is just outright lying and needs to be called out. That does not make you partisan.
That said, I agree the entertainment-ization of news is a bad thing. It's largely caused by the drive for news to make a profit, which is an effect of news agencies being privately owned for-profit corporations. Again, this ties into my point because pointing that fact out gets you called a partisan.

Dear God, no! Please tell me that was a joke...
No it wasn't. I doubt you'd get him to leave his business but a person like him. Somebody who looks into the future and how it could be and goes for it. Somebody who doesn't do it the way it has always been done. Takes what we have and reworks it into something better. Experience counts but our career politicians need to go.
He looks into the future and sees ways technology can increase his profits and replace workers so he can abandon them altogether. He looks into the future and finds new ways to engage in predatory pricing schemes to eliminate competitors.
In reality, he is very much "doing it the way it was always done". Predatory pricing schemes go back to the Gilded Age of robber barons. Nothing he's done is new. And we need to abandon this assumption that any kind of "innovation" or "disruption" has a net benefit effect on society. I really don't have the energy to get further into this right now.
You had more energy to go into than I did. Main point was entertainment-ization of the news is a big thing and it's bad. We use to get well thought out opinions in our newspapers and magazines. I don't object to hearing opinions different from my own.
As far as Amazon, they reimagined the Sears catalog. During a pandemic, they hired a lot and they were hiring before that. What they were doing became a model for what other companies did both before and when this pandemic hit. Did they take others ideas and make them their own, yeah. Are they out for a profit, you bet they are.

Fair enough on the racist accusation. I sometimes forget who said what and who i am resppnding to. So i can relate. Honestly not sure if i defended a comment from the senator, but i will check.
Let’s be careful with calling each other racist or anything else vial. Thats a serious accusation and we shouldnt throw that around too loosely.
Is this the new Civil Sandman?
Do you really not see the problem here? You're more concerned with the word "racist" than the act of racism.
You're also conflating the identification of racist or prejudiced
statements
with calling someone a racist, as in thoroughly and categorically. Lots of people who are not through-and-through racists can have prejudiced thoughts from time to time. It is our responsibility to constantly check ourselves as to whether we are being prejudiced or not, and when we fail, it is necessary for someone else to point it out. If you have a problem with pointing out racism where it exists, you're only enabling it to grow unchecked.
Calling out racism is not "vile". Hell, even if it is mistaken, that does not rise to the level of "vile". Racism is vile. Let's not conflate the evil of racism with name calling.
Quote
I’ve never sensed any racist feelings among any of the primary posters in these political threads.
I have.
again, you accuse me of saying things or having opinions that are not true, in order to try to make me look bad.
I NEVER SAID OR IMPLIED that I am "more concerned" with being called a racist than the act of racism. NEVER.
you lie and make shit up about those you argue with. you have done this repeatedly in this thread.
why do you lie about me again and again??? it seems like you are desperate to paint those you disagree with as horrible humans.
THAT is why this thread is a cesspool.

This thread is pathetic.
It is what you make it.
Maybe part of the reason is that the current administration has aimed so low. Starting with the fake news that Obama isn't American up until the more recent things such as wishing alleged traffickers well, while disrespecting others who didn't attend his inauguration....
When the main topic himself shows very little empathy, decency or sympathy to those who refuse to kiss his ass, you expect people who don't buy his lines to be civil while his supporters aren't? Right....
/jarmo
you used to call people out on calling each other names. I THOUGHT you did that because a) you wanted posters to be respectful to each other since we are all GnR fans; 2) threads would be really boring if everyone was just insulting each other.
now, people can you accuse you of vile shit, call you names, and you are silent. something changed for you. which is fine - your board and I respect however you want to run it. but any "rules" you do supposedly have in place should be applied consistently to everyone.
as far as being "civil", I think it's safe to say you and I have different views on what that means. being angry and aggressive in your "debates" is fine. insulting others seems counterproductive to me.

the screen shot of CNN with this ridiculous headline is one of my favorite photos of the continued riots. 2nd would be a business with a "black lives matter" sign out front completely engulfed in flames.
it is good to see the media and some on the left actually starting to condemn the riots (after arguing that they didn't really exist for months).
shifting polls will have that impact.

Yes, I do.
But in this topic the amount of trolling and baiting just shows how one side is trying to bait the other, only to cry about insults.
That's the bar that was set in this topic. It's pretty low.
So for the sake of your complaint, show me where you were insulted without you baiting someone first in this thread. Thanks!
You see, there's a difference in someone calling you an idiot out of the blue because he/she doesn't agree with your opinion, and someone calling you an idiot because you posted something disrespectful about the other person first.

when you say "right wing" who are you referring to?
i'm not right wing, but I can certainly say Trump isn't perfect. he has not handled everything perfectly. he's pissed me off numerous times. sometimes I've mentioned that in this thread.
are you talking the right wing of the Republican party? most of them hate trump and do everything they can to get him out of office. the neo-cons and dems are DYING for a war. they will probably get their wish in 2021.
are you talking right wing media? Fox News is extremely critical of Trump. I don't read or watch any other right wing media, but if they want to be honest, they would criticize trump when appropriate.

I gave you a hypothetical scenario on why there's a difference. Now, you also failed to show me the examples.

You know where the examples are. Spring of 2017. Multiple posters starting insulting me and other trump supporters. It ruined the intelligent discussions that previously took place. It is exactly why there are only 5 posters in here. It turned to garbage. I have not taken this board seriously since then.

I agree on two of your points, there are plenty of republicans who hate Trump. ie the Lincoln Project. The majority that hate him are the moderate republicans. Fox News depending on who it is has definitely been critical of him.
I disagree on the war though, who's started the last 3 major wars? W. Bush and H.W. Bush.

He's isn't wrong. Look into the Lincoln Project. There are plenty of people on the right that don't like him at all. Don't equate members or the house and senate with the average republican. Those idiots have no backbone, there are many moderate who want to vote against him and want him gone. Their recent issue with Biden which is related to the polls getting closer is support for reinstating the assault weapons ban.

He's isn't wrong. Look into the Lincoln Project.
I'm aware of it. It was started to work against re-electing Trump. So less than a year ago.
But you have to remember that the party he claims hates Trump welcomed Trump with open arms. As long as it benefits them, they stay silent. Wanna get re-elected? You gotta kiss his ass so he endorses you.
Obviously every rule has exceptions. There's plenty of individuals in that party who do oppose him. But as a whole, it's his party and the people there just nod and agree.
Personally I think the saddest part is that some of these people took that whole party down years ago when they started their vendetta against the opposition and just didn't care about decency or mutual respect.

True, too many especially those in power just kiss his ass. I'm not sure if it is fear or if he has somethin on them or both. I think it slowly started in the early 90s with Newt Gingrich. He really screwed up congress. Have you seen the movie The Swamp? It has a lot of bullshit in it, namely Matt Gaetz but it has good points and gives you insight on why congress is so screwed up. Later on it got worse with the Tea Party nutjobs.
