Here Today...

« on: February 05, 2017, 06:33:19 PM »

I don't have Amazon Prime myself, but was shocked when visiting girlfriend to find the London 02 concert on there- in what looks like an official recording. I had no idea this had finally surfaced 'officially'- to the last of my knowledge it was to be the cinema released 3D film that never happened and was later replaced with the Appetite For Democracy DVD release.

It looks to have been added fairly recently to Prime- has it been discussed on here elsewhere? I can't find any other mention of it.

It's a pretty decent show, marred slightly by Pitman falling flat on his back playing keyboards and having to be lifted up by the stage crew (!!) and some truly, truly dreadful women, that caused a scandal on the UK tour at the time! (I'd totally forgotten when it emerged they were giving modelling agencies free tickets for the shows and putting them down at the front, and the shit-storm it caused! No wonder when you see all these half-attractive women talking and pulling faces throughout the set with the camera stuck in their faces every so often! Terrible idea!)

I should note- this is UK Prime. No idea if it's available in the US or elsewhere.

Thanks for the heads up ! I can confirm that it's available on Amazon Japan too, so probably other places as well.

If anyone knows how to rip an Amazon stream, I'm all ears  hihi

Yeah, I have, too.  It's a pretty cut up version, though.  Not sure if the one on Prime is more complete or not.

The Prime one is 2h45mn, so probably complete?  I'll try to download that one as opposed to the Youtube "bootleg". No time stamp at the bottom so it's cleaner.

The one on Prime looks totally complete to me. I can't see any edits at all in the setlist. So weird that it just slipped out there, seemingly without any attention. I was definitely shocked to discover it!

I have Prime (USA) and will check it out.
What do I search? Is there a concert section and I navigate within it? Or do I just search for Guns n Roses?

I searched "Guns n Roses O2" and it popped right on the top of the list.

Or you could probably just use this link. Wink

That London concert is one of the stronger 2012 ones.

It's pretty grim after the UCAP stuff from February of that year.  But that London concert is solid.

I was expecting Buckethead, Brain, Finck, but I see now it's O2 not 02.

Haha, I misread it exactly the same at first. I was at that London 2002 show and was like "Damn, a pro shot video of that?". That really got my hopes up.

Haha! Yeah- that 2002 show was great. London Arena. Even though in Mick Wall's book he describes it as "London Arena, now renamed the O2" he's totally wrong- was a different place altogether. No idea what happened to it- as I remember it was more like a sports hall than an Arena. I also remember it not being that big? I came straight from Leeds festival (went to see GNR) to there. To go from never having seen them live to twice in 4 days was pretty special. Are there any decent boots of the show floating around?

It's also on that failed Sony's Netflix-ish service Crackle - or at least it was the last time I saw it a couple years ago. And it's been broadcasted in Brazil's BIS channel for quite some time too.

Those are just regular people. The guys are always fugly. hihi

But yeah, the direction, camera work and editing in general is pretty bad.

Wasn't the venue torn down shortly afterwards? I believe GN'R were only one the last few bands that were scheduled to play there.

Yeah- I'm pretty sure it's gone now, but I'm not sure what it became. I can't even remember where it was actually- somewhere in the docklands, and you got there via the overground tube is all I remember!

Yeah it was called London Docklands Arena. I'd love to know what the attendance was that night, it seemed really small. I walked in through some door at the side and was right at the front. I did the Leeds gig too like you, mad seeing twice in a few days, my 3rd and 4th time seeing them.

I remember exactly the same- going in at the side and being pretty much front row. Did it even have seats? I'm not sure it did.

What a few days that was to be a fan! That Leeds show is still probably my favourite time seeing them (so far!)
