Not just his sound but his backing vocals!

Ive only seen the videos but Duffs backing vocals seem to work far better than the proceeding line that came after he left.

Its a familiarity too.

I agree, his backing vocals really add a lot to the songs.

Love it.

His bass and his backup vocals.  Missed 'em both.

Definitely a standout track for Duff, YCBM.

So is 'Coma', really.  Which is why it's great it's a staple this time around.

Of course!
I especially love his backing vocals! Vocally, he sounds stronger and clearer than ever before, but without losing his "drunk punk" sound. Sober and clean, his vocals still have the "King of Beers" vibe and tone.
If Izzy gave GNR the "Stones" vibe, it was Duff who gave GNR the "punk" vibe. His backing vocals gave GNR an extra depth that separated them from other bands of the era.

I love it. He sounds much louder than Tommy, maybe due to the comeback of the two-guitar lineup soundmix. Anyhow, it was something I trully missed on the band's sound.

But I must say I do love Duff's current approach on his sound. It's not something heavily based on a Chorus effect like in the 90s, it's much more natural and smooth. His bass lines in SCOM, Rocket Queen and Coma shines without the compressed and "wet" Chorus effect.

I think duffs base has a meansr, more driving, quality than Tommy's did. And i liked tommy's contributions.

I also think going with a more traditional 3 guitar set up lets the bass come forward more, too.

I don't think it's a matter of 2 or 3 guitars... When Duff rejoined gnr while tommy was back in replacements the first thing i noticed was the bass lines he played on CD...just a different touch. Apart from being "the general", i never felt tommy was a great fit for gnr

He was as good of a fit as you were going to get...he co-wrote a good portion of the best songs on Chinese Democracy.

That being said, to put it simply, Duff is an OG Gunner and Tommy is an OG Mat'. Things happen for a reason. Guns has been very lucky to have both of them in the mix. I can't say that about some of the guitar players. Undecided

There's only a handful of bassists who's sound and style is absolutely essential to their band's trademark sound.  Duff is absolutely one of them.

Yep.  Steve Harris, Geddy Lee, Duff McKagan... not too many more, really.

Not only his sound, but his stage presence as well. He's quite tall too, seems like he's everywhere. Every video I see on youtube there's Duff next to Axl's throne, then running next to Slash or standing next to Frank. He's all over the place.

Such an incredible dude. I met him 23 years ago in Madrid when he came solo promoting "Believe in me". He was wasted - the king of beers back then - but came across as somebody who really care about his fans. We all waited three hours to get our CD signed.
