You can't possibly charge people $250 and play that many CD songs.

We've all seen and heard the same ads for these shows.  How many CD tunes you hear in that montage?

You don't exactly hear Coma either.  Tongue

'Coma' vs. 'This I Love'

'Coma' vs. 'Better'

Which song has more people sitting down, or checking their phones?

Coma is a pretty deep cut...hardcores know it but I would imagine most of the people at these shows don't.

Anyhow, I do think 4 cd tracks is a bit much.

Really?

I would tend to think the overwhelming majority of the fans going to this tour know AFD, Lies, and both UYIs pretty well.

A bit less for TSI?, and even less for CD.

4 songs from CD are ok. Come on they have played Don't Cry and Yesterdays as well.... a setlist for both UYI and CD fans  peace

If you look isolated at the one setlist, they didn't add those songs to the previous setlists. They did replace Civil War and Coma, so the number of UYI songs in the setlist didn't increase.

No complaints here though, we can see the videos from all the concerts.

Use Your Illusion I (1991)

« Reply #247 on: April 21, 2016, 03:37:46 PM »

I agree. TWAT is a good song, but you really can't say with any validity that it is the "best song".

I guess maybe to you it could be. I'm talking objectively here. I don't think that it could be. Universally people don't think that.

Them playing CD songs is cool, I think Nikki hit the nail on the head

there is no "obectively" best song. just as there is no objectively best color or best flavor. if you want to go by what people think universally, isn't that the same as saying the most popular music is the best music? you can see what road that logic would take you down (a road i would only walk down with earplugs in). i think when it comes to things like art, there is not really such a thing as best. people just like what they like, and for all kinds of different reasons.

No universally meaning critically too. Popular music isn't usually good now days. GOod music usually isn't popular.

I mean you can stay stuck on the "opinion" thing all you want man, it is overrun so badly.

I'm simply saying that in general, you can't consider TWAT as Gn'R's best song or even towards the top of the heap. There's better songs done. I can go sales on you, and I can go charting on you with it. It can go on for days. Yeah some of it is subjective, but because 1 person says this is better than that... that is their opinion sure, but it doesn't change anything.

Then, my "opinion" is that welcome to the jungle is a better song than TWAT. That's my opinion right?

Well it is also the opinion of millions of others. If something is a large majority, then it rules that.

Like if you ask 100 people... do you like TWAT or SCOM, or TWAT and November Rain etc...

maybe 10-15 at best will vote TWAT. (that is 100 random people and not blind CD supporters on here)

Point made.

No one knows CD material outside of we diehards.

Asking them their opinion on 'There Was A Time' vs. 'This I Love' will get you nothing but blank stares.

I dunno. I think Slash playing on Chi Dem songs as well as he does on Better & TWAT, is an utterly fascinating look at what could have been.  I was captivated the entire time in Vegas, but paid extra attention to Slash's guitars when he played the Chi Dem stuff.

But seriously, Axl and Slash on the same stage?  I'd pay just to hear them do Andrew Lloyd Weber hits together.

I love Slash on 'Chinese' because its stripped down and without all that pretentious bullshit.

I doubt that. Some of my friends are no die hard fans and they know some of the CD songs... that album is more popular than you think.

Yeah, his solo on that is blistering.  I think it's obvious that the next release has him all over it, but wouldn't be shocked if Axl "re-tooled" some of the Chinese Democracy tracks with Slash and Duff as well.  Might help give his favs a fairer shake too.

I can't believe we are now really discussing what fans consider the best song - lol.

I personally think that TWAT is in the top 5 of GNR's best songs. And I would always choose Estranged over November Rain or especially KOHD. Just because a majority is thinking that something is better doesn't make it automatically true. Never been that way.

I am happy that they are doing CD songs because it is a GN'R record. And it deserves to be played live.

As much as I like discussions and as much as I respect the opinion of other fans, I really hate it when discussions are starting to be filled with stuff like this: "blind CD supporters". What should that mean? Everybody liking a song off CD is a blind CD supporter? C'mon!!

Yeah, I've heard that bandied about around here.  Don't see its application in the real world, however.

I would think if we all took ourselves out of the equation, all of our friend's knowledge of anything post 2000 with GNR plummets.

They know because of our superfandom.  They sure never heard any of this stuff on the radio.

Remember the alternative songs from the April 9 Vegas setlist?

They were:

Nice Boys
Think About You
Used To Love Her
Yesterdays
TWAT

Heres the setlist from Mexico City:

Perfect Crime and Out Ta Get Me are there as well..

I'm thinking they may have rehearsed lots and lots of songs, then choose which ones to put up as alternatives for each single show. Meaning the alternative-list can change from show to show, opening up for songs we haven't seen on any list yet.

It seems that we're going to experience some pouring rain again tonight! Get ready! smoking

It's real nice out right now but I guess I ll pack my raincoat. "Grey raincoat Grin"

I really hope you did! ICE STONES jesus! It was painful....but fuck it was good! Only god knows how much I love this band, he sent me rocks from heaven so I could prove my loyalty and commitment!
Im glad I got tickets for both nights, listening to TWAT was great, but i think they're still working in it. Didnt sound 100% rounded. Yesterdays, that was a beautiful gift.

I just did a Top 10 list at another board.  I have TWAT at #10.  It's the only CD song I have in the top 20.

I am happy they are doing CD songs because it heads off the "outrage" if they weren't.  I'm am all about pacification in this particular case.

I don't know if it's about playing songs because of an "outrage".
I think it's because they want to play them - no matter what the reason is. I am just happy that the band sounds pretty tight, Axl is sounding awesome and the shows are selling well. More than I could have imagined to happen.
