Been seeing some opposition, mostly on other boards, to the prospect if Slash laying down guitar over some of the unreleased Chi Dem era tracks.  To me this is baffling, mostly because of the fact that these same posters were pretty much mums to word when DJ Ashba & Bumblefoot spoke of doing the exact same thing.  That is, recording on the tracks that Axl had "in the can".

Wouldn't it make sense for the guy who defined GNR's guitar sound to kick these tracks up a proverbial notch?  I mean, to me this is 10x more preferable to the likes of Bumblefoot or DJ adding guitars and finishing them up with their creative input.
I think that some fans are just so stuck on the idea that GNR is, was and will always be ONLY material created by members of the band prior to 1996 that they are blinded to any and all reality.

I believe it's fact (but maybe not officially confirmed?) that some CD songs and some 'future' material were written prior to Slash's 1996 departure.  Yet some fans refuse to acknowledge this very well may be the case.  They refuse to entertain the possibility that Slash has, is and will be involved with anything created in the CD-era or with any CD-era members.

Another fact is and confirmed by both DJ and Bumblefoot that neither added anything 'new' to any 'future' tracks for GNR so that's just a non-topic.

Yup.  Like I said in my post above, I highly doubt Slash's additions would or will be like what Ron did on Chinese; like extra noodling and fills here and there and maybe some extra rhythms.  I think Slash would ultimately replace whatever leads are there completely.

Yeah, that is a bit different.

Not quite like Coma, but more like Estranged.  ok

Exactly.  And it's not that I don't want to see some Slash compositions, but only that it makes sense that Slash contribute to an album that we have been told ad nauseam is already complete. That is, if they want to put it out in timely conjunction with the upcoming tour.

I guess I just don't see them starting from the ground up on new music, at least not anytime soon.

As we all learned whilst waiting on the release of CD, the words "already complete" are subjective.

Whether it's Slash just adding some fills or him completely replacing all lead guitar part on CD2 (or some combination of both), I'd very much prefer that than to not having him on the album at all.  I know the whole rationale about don't create another reason to delay this, but let's face it, we're waiting either way, so why not have the wait be for the best album it could be.  Also, I want new music added to the live catalog, so having Slash be a part of the new music will make it more likely the material will be played live.

Plus I think it would also add to the stability and acceptance (for lack of a better term) of the GNR2016 line-up.

I keep thinking when am I going to wake up to all this being a dream.

I'd love for them to tear out all the old guitar parts on songs like the General and other unreleased CD tracks and have Slash just run train over them !

Even if it's just a couple songs and they are added to the much discussed Best of Release they could come out with. Combine that with finally getting to see Axl and Slash perform together... it could not get any better than 2016.

Agreed.  It would be "Their" music, as opposed to them supporting the follow up album just to be sports.

It's a trip, isn't it? At the Vegas shows someone is gonna have to pinch us.  Just surreal.  The thought of Axl & Slash playing SCOM, NR & Estranged again with us in the same room...Holy shit.  And if they randomly bust out new music? Too much. Just too much.

Yeah... I'll be there bright and early on the 8th... I'm standing right next to the stage for this... It's all I have thought about for the past few weeks .. and as we get closer... it's only going to get worse.

Regardless of when any new releases started from... the more Slash and Duff have their prints on it... the better... for a variety of reasons.

I'll be on the floor on the 9th.  I'm going to avoid reviews and setlists from the night before at all costs, and just hang at the casino(s) all day.  Maybe just check headlines to make sure they showed up and the place didn't burn to the ground.  hihi

You wanna laugh? Not only will I be in Vegas on the 8th, but my wife made me an ultimatum that the only way she'd go with me on this trip (which is the only way I'd get to go) is if on the first night we go to the Britney Spears Vegas show.  nervous

Lol, the things we do for GNR. Welp, if I win the Nightrain concert for night 1, it might be my get out of jail free ticket.  Fingers crossed!

Maybe they're going to re-record some of there earlier songs that never made it, for various reasons, onto their previous albums - songs like 'Aint going down' or whatever it was called - I can't remember.

Taking longer doesn't always equate to the "best" album.  Also, maybe Buckethead, Bumblefoots, or someone else's take is actually better than Slash's?

All subjective, so we're talking opinions here.  I liked the lead guitar work from from Buckethead and Finck on CD (loved it in some cases) but I think adding Slash to anything of Guns N' Roses makes it better.  And I agree that taking longer for its own sake doesn't make something better but if it's for the sake of adding Slash contributions then I think it does.
