It's surprising to see chairs at the chairs at the floor. Are people on the floor really going to be sitting down during the show?

exactly my thought ... maybe its something american?  Tongue

I don't want to be a Debbie Downer here, but seats fill up a space way more than people standing. So my guess is it didn't sell as well as expected....

I think it's a regulation/security thing in America to avoid people getting crushed in the crowd etc. Every stadium show I went there had chairs.
People do not stay seated during the show.

Of course they wont stay seated... but thats not the point.
The whole experience of a rock show, jumping around and dance, is ruined by those chairs.

I hope that's only a Detroit thing...

It's not a Detroit thing, it's the same setup for all shows this summer.

How does this seating work? is it first come first serve, where you can choose your seat, or are they marked and they will kick you out if you move to a better seat lets say, in between acts?

Are you allowed to move to the gap between the row of seats, if lets say someone way taller than you is in front and you want to stand next to the seats where you wont disturb anyone?

Cant believe there are seats at this type of concert  confused
You and me both brother, the least fun I had at gig from this band is 2010 at the O2 in London, sitting at a rock show is lame... Oddly enough saw Jeff Lynne's ELO at the same venue and in similar seats and that experience was fine.

Edit -The floor was all standing but couldn't get ticket for this so did the seating  thing... Every other show prior to that were standing. Donnington 88,  Wembley 91 & 92 (and freddie tribute show) Milton Keynes 93 Leeds 2002,  Donnington 2006. So 2010 was a bit of a culture shock  crying

It's a VERY common thing, in the states. Much, much, much more common than standing GA for the entire floor at a big venue.

I think the question about seats on the floor has been answered before. From what I can remember it has to do with US regulations with large crowds in a confined area, so probably not the band's decision.

Pretty much.

Many venues do it for liability reasons (the GA type setup has proven to result in more litigation and higher awards in litigation should something go "haywire").

Many others have local fire regulations that prevent it, in an arena over a certain capacity.

It's almost certianly not the bands decision.

And it's not like the seats get used all that much.  They are there..you basically stand in front of your chair all night.  It's not like you'll see a sea of people sitting down to watch the show.

I think its a money thing also, used to be that Stadium shows were not seated, when Guns played Giant Stadium back in the day(Aerosmith/Deep Purple/GNR)- (GNR /Metallica) there were no seats. But seems that they can get more bang for the buck charging higher prices with the seats and even more for the VIP things.

Nope.

There is a seat for every allowable ticket (if it's GA seating...it might have been ticketed seating) in the GA section, to capacity. That's part of the fire regulations thing.  It also prevents them from "overselling" GA areas...and violating fire codes...because every allowable ticket has a seat.

Sales wouldn't have any effect on their decision to put chairs in.  Chairs are going to be there if they sell 300 tickets, or 3000.

Nope.  Regulations (and litigation precedent) have changed in the past 20 years. Wink

Venues are actually making LESS money, because they USED to be able to "oversell" the GA sections by about 10%.

With the new regulations and fire codes, you can't do that.

It depends.

I'm not sure, show to show, how those sections were sold/billed. I didn't really check.

For Metlife, those are ticketed seats in those sections (not GA).  So, when you bought your ticket, you got a seat assignment. That's where you go, that's where you stay.

YES, they will move you back to your seat (or out of the stadium, if they keep catching you) if you are caught "seat stealing".  They also keep the aisles clear, generally, during the show.  There's some creep into the aisles, but security/ushers make periodic sweeps to get everything in order.  This is to keep clear exit paths to fire exits.  Again, fire codes/regulations.

If it's GA seating, move our feet, lose your seat.  They will still patrol the aisles, but they won't stop you from changing seats.  I don't know if any of the stadiums are doing that or not.

Ok , then that makes sense then. I do miss those days though of the open field GA! At Least I got to experience that at Coachella, from that rail! lol

Yeah, outdoor festivals and a couple of "friendly" fire districts are the last bastion of that type of experience.  I miss them, too. Sad

VERY interesting chatter on the radio this morning in the ATL. Peter Conlon, Live Nation, old school promoter in Atlanta, was weighing in on Gnr and AC/DC. He thinks AC/DC may be done after this run of shows in the Fall. He seemed very happy about Gnr and the tour...said that the industry buzz on Axl is very positive and that he really nailed it with AC/DC (not that we don't already know that!).

Anyhow, just nice to hear.... beer

no. the decision for seats or no seats was made before tix went on sale. each seat is assigned.

I have not attended many outdoor stadium concerts in my lifetime. But most of them have seats on the floor. some have a small pit area up front. I did go to a Metallica show back in 2003 that was GA on the entire floor.

indoor arenas vary as well. for a number of years (in the mid 90's thru 2011 or so), GA was very common on the floor (at least at the shows I went to in Philly). but in the last few years I have been to some shows that have seats on the floor, and again, a small pit area up front.

Cool. I'm really curious about how Axl will sound with GN'R tonight and how people/reviewers will react to it.

I think the band comes out firing tonight. Axl's GREAT ACDC run and you know the rest of Guns have been working hard the last few weeks. Unreal never thought we'd see a stadium tour again. Have a blast Gunners!

Tonight will be the first show we're going to see them interact onstage and play a real show.
We did not have much footage from Troubadour and then Axl was in the chair for the rest of the April shows.
I'm really anxious to see Axl and Slash working their magic together again.

Things like this:

Pretty awesome indeed. Hoping for some pictures of merchandise at the Detriot show. Wonder if they will do custom shirts like they did for Vegas?
