If someone wants to correct Conan you can probably get on his show.

That was funny. I love Buckethead .  I met him back in 2001 the day after my first ever GNR show at the Joint.  He was very nice.  That was not him. He recognized me from standing in
The front row.  He sent his friend after me to have me come back to Starbucks to talk to him.  Was one of my fav GNR moments forever!  Cool

Longer than that. 2004.

I guess it makes for a better joke than to stick with facts....  Wink

Yeah Conan sucks these days. Not just this sketch but since 'Late Night' was over it's been "Where's Masturbating Bear?" to him pretty mutch.

Or it points out that not many people actually know facts (but as a music fan I would assume Conan does so you do have a point). For people who don't watch Palladia at 3:00AM, the 2002 VMA's might be the last time they saw GnR perform live.

Yep.

Not to mention the joke only works with a guy with a freakin' mask.

You're assuming those people were watching MTV VMAs in 2002.  Wink
I wouldn't be surprised if a number of viewers wouldn't have known the difference no matter what name he had used.

I still think the joke wouldn't be as funny without the Buckethead character itself. So that's why they kinda went with it.

Exactly. Folks it's a comedy show. His job is to be funny to a general audience, not to be 100% accurate on rock marginalia the only diehard fans care about.

My favorite part about the whole thing was him being (what looked like) 5'2" (158 cm) tall.

Still, it would've been fine if he had not said "the most recent lineup.?or something? Maybe something  as simple as ''Buckethead won't be in it!''
