But, to be brutally honest, I was never all that passionate about any post-2000 line-up.  I didn't so much like the replacment line-ups as tolerated them.  What choice had I?  It was that or nothing, literally nothing.

Exactly my sentiment. And even "tolerating" was some times hard. Would have had less of a problem with them, if Axl just would have toured as "Axl Rose", which, essentially it was and the way I  tried to look at it.

So, if you have Pitman, Reed, Fortus and Ferrer in the band *without Slash* it's not GNR. If Slash pops in, it's GNR.

it amuses me how difficult is to some people to understand lineup changes don't create a new band, considering several of the most famous bands in the world have been through this (Pink Floyd, Metallica, AC/DC, Rolling Stones, Black Sabbath and a million other examples).

By the way, that Tommy post at instagram is intriguing  Shocked

Assuming they (Slash AND Duff) are equal partners and get a say in what is happening with the band, yes. If they are just employees and have to go along with whatever it is Axl is deciding then no. It amuses me how difficult it is to some to see that having a bunch of salaried players, who have to do what their employer tells them to do, makes that "band" nothing more than a solo project of the person writing the cheques.

No need to come here and shit on the fact that Axl kept the band going.

Edited to add: It's ironic that some can't seem to just be happy with the recent news. That's not enough, they need to point out how they didn't like something about the old band, or just be plain disrespectful. Maybe that's the case with all the people who suddenly showed up after 10-20 years in exile. I don't know. But have some respect.

A question was asked and I added my 5 cents. That has nothing do with disrespect. But maybe it is telling, that despite seeing NuGNR 7 times in the past decade, I never felt the need to talk about them (well, at least not here) or branch out to different boards to get news about the band.

I'd be very surprised if they are equal partners. Why would they be? Why after all these years would Axl allow that?

Well, when Ozzy came back to Black Sabbath Tony Iommi stopped being the sole owner of the name. So stranger things have happened. I'm not sure if Axl would give up the right to the name, but I'm sure they are more than just employees.

I really think that they are just 'employees' (for want of a better term) who are on a stupidly big wage. Axl owns the name, and has kept that name alive for many years- with all odds against him. I can't see him, or anyone, being happy that someone could then step into that name, having done nothing, and get an equal cut. It wouldn't seem right.

The name of something which took 4 other guys to create. They have as much a stake in the name as him. And if he wouldn't be so difficult, unpredictable and my-way-or-the-highway, at least, 2 guys probably never would have left.

But legally- he owns the name. Why would he want to suddenly split it?

The name is 100% Axl, but the partnership for the band is another story I would believe.

I know it's exciting and all. But please, all these name discussions, please go post in the Dead Horse section.
The rest of us have been talking about this for about 15 years by now....

Suddenly every other thread is turned into the same old tired "discussions". It's the name, it's the riots, it's the so called late starts.

Like I said: Dead Horse. Go there.  ok

Well. It wasn't really my intention to beat the dead horse, as I don't really care anymore. The name situation is what it is. I see both sides and it wasn't my intention to discuss it anyway, just as it pertains to the NuGNR members.

Well for one thing, I have been immensely happy and thoroughly enjoyed Tommy in Guns N' Roses, and he will always be part of that family, he was a rock that Axl was able to lean on as the band kept going.
Though Im not sure exactly how long I'll have to miss him. As this is GNR and stranger things have happened. He could very well come up during shows(provided they do indeed do an extensive tour beyond Coachella, which BTW, I have every confidence in), to sit in on a couple of Chinese tunes.
I'm speculating of course, but I don't see it as something out of the realm of possible. But to me he has earned all my respect as being a member of GUNS N ROSES!! My fucking favorite band period!

Well, when Ozzy came back to Black Sabbath Tony Iommi stopped being the sole owner of the name. So stranger things have happened. I'm not sure if Axl would give up the right to the name, but I'm sure they are more than just employees.

Ozzy had to take Tony Iommi to court over the ownership of the Black Sabbath name.  Read here:

http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/ozzy-and-tony-iommi-settle-black-sabbath-suit-20100720

Axl owns the GNR name and is unlikely to share it with anyone after what he went through (right or wrong) to acquire sole ownership of it.  So contract employees would exactly be what Slash and Duff are, although I am sure they negotiated to reasonable enough terms for themselves.

I would think the same.

I also highly doubt either man, if asked a question about what they are doing, would say "can't say, you have to ask Axl".

Even if not back in a formal partnership, have to imagine they have more say that anyone in Axl's band these past however many years.
