Not possible. Aside from the checks and balances in place to prevent exactly that (one employee going rogue):

Because the guy updating the web page? He's not the same guy who is updating the descriptions that go out to all the cable and directv boxes out there. And yet, as i sit here, the descriptin for tuesdays show, on my directv box, lists "musician axl rose". So, this was going to happen, and something changed.

Jimmy Kimmel just announced the rest of the week, then said "Axl Rose was supposed to be here tomorrow but will not be here... for reasons only known to Axl Rose. (Then he laughed) maybe he will be here tomorrow and he's keeping us on our toes, I don't know"

Who has the track record for screw ups? The Kimmel show who successfully books guests pretty much every week day for the past several years... or the constant victim of miscommunications?

They didn't make it up... He was going to be there and change his mind, and from all accounts, that happened today. Jimmy would't have just addressed it taking a playful jab at Axl if this was on them.

And "for reasons known only to Axl Rose", to me, means he either wasn't buying what he was told or didn't even get a straight answer.
