New Merch featuring the classic logo on the official website...

Guessing Slash signed over the rights or theres been some sort of agreement along the lines...

Another hint for a reunion maybe?  Cheesy

Yeah, I don't thinks Slash has anything to do with that.

I've had a GNR beach towel the past few years.  A product I purchased when Slash was total persona non grata.

But it still has the old circle logo on it, and the classic font for the band name.

I was under the impression that Slash held the rights to this as it was his design and GNR hadnt been using that logo for legal reasons.

Well, you piqued my interest, so I just grabbed the towel off the closet shelf.

Round logo, classic font, and the tag says 2007.

So I don't think they'd been prevented from using it.

Did you buy the towel through an official channel?

Interesting... i am sure this is new ground though.... i was fairly sure that Slash had withheld use for this logo...

Jarmo??? Can you shed any light on this?

 Cheesy haha

sure your mum didnt get it from a market or something?

I used to get loads of unofficial LFC merch like towels and cups from those places. Some of it was really good too.  Wink

I mean, if Axl owns GNR, it's his... Right? I don't see what slash would have to do with it.

Depends who comes up with what and if you could prove who owns an idea or a concept.

When Pink Floyd broke up, Roger got the rights to use the concept of 'The Wall' for instance.  I think it was 'The Wall'.  Gilmour could not use it without him.

I'm not Jarmo nor do I play him on T.V. However, per Axl a.k.a. Dexter:

"I haven't been involved much in any of our merch and the reasons are it's been a mess legally for years. Unbeknownst to most of you I was recently sued again by Duff and Slash for some murky Merckiness that I was unaware and not involved in. Fortunately that was resolved but it got ugly and took a while going into arbitration.

Merck shifted our merch from some of our newer styles to incorporating more of the old with some scam that actually and surprisingly lost sales in comparison but that's old news."

Seems relevant. Slash/Duff may have a say in stuff using the old logo. Doesn't mean they wouldn't approve stuff like a towel. Might have been an issue with some of the Merck era stuff where you had the old logo with CD era font.

Merck sure went off book and ran his own operations a lot of the time, huh?

At the time, as it was going on, I thought he was good.  Thought he was an asset and good for the band.

Rather lost me with the "it might just show up in the store one day" bit, have to be honest.

But then once Axl weighed in years later, the picture of him changes.  At least, I think it does.

The yellow circle logo belt buckle has been around since the new gunsnroses.com opened up I think... It's been years now.

Yep, as part of the settlement he got all publishing rights regarding The Wall. That is why we haven't seen an official DVD of the 1980/81 tour officially released yet... Also, Geoff Tate took it as a clue and negotiated with Queensryche to get all rights from Operation Mindcrime in exchange for the band name, hence the name of his new band.

It'll be interesting to see if they start using the old logo again at gunsnroses.com as well.

Of course, it might not mean anything else than that the CD-era is over. The logo with the chinese symbols on was made specific for Chinese Democracy, right?
