Great find.  Also, this has to be one of the best quotes ever.

?They were there to rock; what they didn't want was some homo-looking dudes playing noisy synths and they made that very clear to us. There were thousands of people standing there going [raises middle finger] and there were bits of sausage on the stage. I've tried to block it out."

Nine Inch Nails opened for GN'R at two shows in Europe in August 1991. Way before their big breakthrough.

Axl was wearing a NIN shirt at shows in 1991 as well.

I remember him wearing a NIN shirt at a show I went to in 1991, Noblesville maybe? Or was that the Marlboro shirt? Too many years Cheesy

NIN as a band was really different to the other opening act, Skid Row.

Maybe a few years later in like 1992-3 it would've worked better.

But yeah, just shows that Axl was into that kind of stuff even before people started talking about how he wants to go industrial, techno or disco....

That happened to GNR in 2006 at the metal fest I went to see. Sad
It was also a shame cause they where great.

interesting track because it's the last of the last albums of the old band.
it's really short so when I want to listen to it I do it in repeat mode.

curious about the lyrics, I wondered if it was a hint at the future sound of the band, or a solo Axl LP.

I think My World is so awful and cheesy that it?s funny.
But it really couldn?t seem more out of place on the Illusions.
I think if anywhere, it should have been on an Axl solo album, since it?s basically an Axl song.
or maybe a hidden track, that you have to fast forward a few minutes to get to.
Basically a courtesy buffer to give listeners time to safely turn the player off before My World begins.

A very small gripe, but always felt the the track order on UYI II could have used some tweaking.
I always considered My World to be a joke, sort of making Don?t Cry (alt lyrics) the last song on the album.
As much as I like Don?t Cry, it?s not the most effective closer. Estranged or YCBM might have made more sense.

I think My World is great. First time i heard it i thought that there was something wrong with my cassette  Grin

Its a great finish to the Illusion, it creeps you out nicely Tongue.

Axl also wore a NIN shirt in the 1992 Tokyo dvd/vhs during You Could Be Mine.

My World is just  a bad filler. A 10 years old child can do better with any computer today. It was just like a "we can use computers too" thing.

Always my feeling too.  Just a total joke of a "song".  And what was the point?

As for NIN not being enthusiastically received, keep in mind this was 1991.  NIN wasn't anywhere near what they would become, and frankly, neither was that genre.

If I'm not mistaken, things didn't do much better for Soundgarden in late 1991/early 1992.  Same reasons.

Are you at least 10? Let's put your little theory to the test. Compose a better song on your computer and let us hear it. Cheesy

Lyrics too.

Does he get to put Axl's name on it too, so it's judged in that light?

Fair is fair.

Nope, he said a 10 year old with a computer could do better so I want to see the proof on that.

actually the lyrics and the vocals are pretty interesting and twisted to say the least.....b-side on a single.

Estranged should have closed the album....how prophetic that last verse is in hindsight.  Embarrassed

Q: - What the hell was My World?  lol (I've always been curious)

A: Great question and here goes for all your inquisitive minds with a bit you aren?t aware of but is the real story?

Unfinished 1st run 1st dabbling/experimenting all in fun demo that became Duff?s favorite song at the time telling me how he loved to blast it at his house with Ice T and the Bodycount guys before Illusions came out and before it was decided to be on the record. I wanted to try and develop it and wanted guitars of some kind but Slash felt and his words at the Record Plant in all seriousness were ?It?s perfect? and Slash and Duff were the deciding factor to have it on the album. :O

Personally I feel Duff legitimately liked it but I can?t say Slash did in the same way. In fact I feel he was keenly aware some would take issue with the track and against me so for him in that sense it was ?perfect?.  Imo Duff wasn?t aware or part of that and was ?used? unwittingly for support in talking me out of developing it or not including it which at the time I had no real intention of using as is.

All I found about NIN opening for GNR were two dates.

I read that NIN did 4 dates in Germany, 1 with GNR and 3 were club dates.

They met up with GNR again at Wembley, which was also Izzy's last show as an official member. All I found was a bootleg and this (for the VMAs, maybe Skid Row and NIN footage exists?)
