I would hope that the release would go down the way Axl would want, sure.  I just don't know how high our or his expectations should be for some kind of crazy rollout for a hard rock album in 2016 should be.  Things have changed a lot in the last 7 years (can't believe that) since Chinese dropped.  And things sure weren't great then.  The vast majority of album sales are digital now. How does that get promoted in a way that would convince Axl to press "Go"?  I honestly don't know.

I just don't want to see it staying in limbo for much longer because of some impasse regarding how it's going to be marketed.

Album sales is just one of many ways to rate the popularity of a band. We both know certain fans would be "disappointed" with any sales figures. Hell, apparently even Chinese Democracy's first week sales and platinum certification was a failure according to those people.

I have no idea if promotion is even an issue. I could see it being one for sure. Like you said, things are a bit different now.
Chinese Democracy was streamed for free on Myspace, that didn't count towards sales or the album chart. Nowadays you got all kinds of platforms to release albums and music.

Music isn't worth what it used to be to most people.

Honestly, you better forget about album sales....whether it is a reunion band or modern lineup. It just isn't going to be "Yesterday"....get the fuck over it. It will be a way for Axl and the brand to generate a lot of press. It will generate a ton of press which will help any form of tour big time. Damn, quit beating a dead horse and just let it play out. Something will happen one way or the other. I have a good feeling.  peace

Not by a longshot.  It's well-know that, nowadays, bands and artists makes most of their money touring.  It seems that album releases are mostly promotion for tours.  And if it does well on itunes, great, it's a positive plus.

But the fact that Axl won't be able to buy an island from album sales is not a great reason to *not* put one out.  Tongue

Not promotion, reason to tour.  hihi

Release new album -> Go on tour -> sell t-shirts

How it used to be:
Release new album -> go on tour -> sell more albums

I certainly hope that the next time GNR tours it is in support of a recently released album, as in their reason to tour.

If Axl hits the road next fall, in someplace other than the U.S. with who the hell knows who onstage with him and the same pat answers about why there is no album, who can claim legit surprise?

I could see some sort of touring in 2016.  An album...like JAEBALL said upthread....why?  Why would you think that?

I will give them this much: The next announcement/news. If it is about anything other than the next album, then I'm going to go on record saying that it has been put on hold "indefinitely".

I think that's fair.

Consider it my last shred of goodwill towards the current management. I'm choosing to believe that Ferando wasn't completely talking out of his ass when he said he'd be back in a few months with some news. We'll see.

But we established just last week that a simple "hey man, things change" absolves him of having to keep his word on that, right?

I choose to believe him too.  What the fuck, why not?  I also chose to believe Axl was starting to look very seriously at what he's doing in regard to releasing new material...18 months ago.

I'll take anyone at their word.  Should it not pan out, I'll say that too.

I'm going to buy the album, should they ever figure out how to get it out.  I'm pretty sure that's all I owe them.

They should. Bands that have pretensions of still being an active, relevant entity, should care when their diehard fans give up hope of ever seeing anything new from them again.

Do you think all diehard fans post on forums? Honest question.
