Sorum told The Pulse of Radio in a 2009 interview that, if the classic GUNS N' ROSES band reunites, they should perform with both him and Adler. "If it's me on drums or Steven or whatever, if it happened, it'd be great, you know. I would actually say to them, 'Hey, bring both of us back,' you know. Let me play the other stuff. We'll have two drum kits. I don't care. If 'Appetite' ('For Destruction', the band's debut) sounds better with Steven playing it, have both guys up there. They can afford it."

Sorum also blasted Rose for using the name GUNS N' ROSES when the original band is no longer together. Sorum said, "I'm not saying I'm an original member, okay, but I understand the core of the band, which is Slash and Duff and probably Izzy. It's a shame, and you know what, this goes back to a Paul McCartney thing. Does he call himself THE BEATLES? Not saying we were as big as THE BEATLES, but does Sting call himself THE POLICE? No. Does Jimmy Page and Robert Plant go out there calling themselves LED ZEPPELIN? Nope."

Saw this yesterday, he is right about not being an original member Cheesy

Wonder if he knows what "pleading the fifth" really means?

During an appearance on the March 2 edition of Eddie Trunk's SiriusXM satellite radio show, "Eddie Trunk Live", original GUNS N' ROSES drummer Steven Adler was about how he would feel about a hypothetical reunion of the classic GN'R lineup which would include Matt Sorum on drums instead of him.

"Matt wouldn't do it," Adler insisted. "I see Matt practically every Monday night, and we talked about it. He wouldn't do it unless I was a part of it. And I said, 'Well, dude, I would do it without you.' And he said, 'But you're the original guy. You're the sound of GN'R. I'm not. So it's different.' And I said, 'If I did it, if Axl [Rose, vocals] wanted to play the '[Use Your] Illusion' songs, I would have you right next to me. You come up and I'll either take the throne or sit where I sit.'? Sort of like [the way we did it] at the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame [induction in 2012]. They didn't show that part on TV, I don't think, but [Matt] played 'Brownstone', and then I came up and played 'Sweet Child' and 'Paradise City'."

For whatever reason, it doesn?t seem to be registering.
Steven Adler had a cocaine induced stroke. The guy was a fucking mess to put it mildly. His life post GN?R was in the shitter for a long time.

I was aware of the stroke, I just wasn't aware it was your sole reason for why his musical career has been at a bit of a standstill for the past 25 years. Not to downplay the severity of a stroke as my grandmother died from one, but if Steven had 1.3 million to blow on a mansion in Malibu, I'm sure he could have afforded some of the best life coaches, physiotherapists, drug counselors, and in-home health care professionals that money could buy so that he would have been able to get his personal life in order and reestablish his musical career.

Maybe that?s why people weren?t lining up to play with him? Maybe they were, and he wasn?t physically or mentally able?
We don?t know.

You don't think that perhaps the numerous embarassing stints on Celebrity Rehab perhaps played a role in Steven not landing much work post-Gn'R? I know that if I found myself on Celebrity Rehab I wouldn't be expecting my career to still be there once the cameras stopped rolling.

As a point of reference, compare Adler to Mike Portnoy. Both are drummers who found tremendous success in the 1980s with their original bands. Since leaving Dream Theater, Mike has found success touring with popular acts such as Avenged Sevenfold and with his own solo projects such as The Winery Dogs. Where is the second half of Adler's career?

Sorum said, "I'm not saying I'm an original member, okay, but I understand the core of the band, which is Slash and Duff and probably Izzy.

What? No love for Steven? I thought without Steven there could be no reunion hihi

This has run off track a little bit....

if Axl, Slash and Duff play together (hopefully Izzy too)... 99.9 percent of us are going to be thrilled regardless of the others involved..

Just like everything else in life, different strokes for different folks.

Of course Axl might be chuckling at all of us thinking ... these morons!

Cool. You could have spent Steven?s money more wisely than he did.

What?s the reason for Axl?s 7 year standstill? and the 15 years standstill prior to his last release?
Must be the lack of demand.

I?d call participating in Celebrity Rehab and being associated with Avenged Sevenfold a wash.

STATEMENT FROM MATT SORUM

In these last few months since getting notice about being inducted into the Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame, many emotions and feelings have gone through my head and heart, as well as the original five members of GN'R: Axl, Slash, Duff, Izzy and Steven. I was also chosen to be inducted, along with Dizzy Reed.

It was slightly awkward for me in some ways knowing some fans have the original five in their hearts for a reunion. I chose to say
to Slash and Duff, 'Please have Steven play, and let me know what you would like me to do.'

Stevens's passion for GN'R is something that no one can explain but him: it's a true love gone, but never forgotten. How many people have felt that in their lifetime?

I told Steven and the rest of the guys the night of the Induction that night was for them and what they created on the streets of Hollywood, and it can never be taken away. The music will live on. And that's what counts.

Cool. You could have spent Steven?s money more wisely than he did.

You're seriously gonna' sit there with a straight face and try to justify a mansion as a better financial investment than one's physical and mental health? It truly pains you that much to find any fault with Adler whatsoever?

What?s the reason for Axl?s 7 year standstill? and the 15 years standstill prior to his last release?
Must be the lack of demand.

Touring the world from 2009-2014 is a rather odd conception of "standstill." As for before Chinese Democracy's release, you don't think actually rebuilding the band and fending off lawsuits from ex-Gunners perhaps contributed the the wait for the album? Also rather odd (but entirely predictable) that you're willing to cut Adler endless slack for him "being in a dark place" after the original lineup split but are completely unwilling to do the same for Axl.

I?d call participating in Celebrity Rehab and being associated with Avenged Sevenfold a wash.

Then you'd be out to lunch, but then again, your love for Scott Weiland kinda' already cemented you as such Kiss

I was inquiring why we should take the statement you posted seriously and not his comments about harming himself and others.. care to comment on that?

Yes, I found his statement on "The toppest mountain" humorous, does he sound 100% sober to you?

I've noticed that you tend to quote parts of a post, while ignoring others, and the context of statements as well.

I don't think it's a contradiction to feel that Adler's drumming on Appetite is the best drumming on any Guns record (which is how I feel) but still think that Adler was the worst drummer to ever be in the band.  If anyone notable is starting a band or if an existing band needs to replace a drummer, I can't imagine Steven being picked anything but last among Matt, Freese, Brain or Frank.  Whether that's due to actual ability or other issues, that's what it is.

Izzy's praise of Steven's drumming, which is often used to tout Steven as some drumming god, has never been that he's a great drummer, but that the hyper way that he played was just for some reason perfect for the band at the time.  In fact, when comparing Matt and Steve, he described Matt as 'precise' and Steven's style as 'accidental'.

That said, if they do re-unite, I'd prefer Steven over anyone else, because his style of drumming was in fact just the right style for the 'core 4' as we're now calling them, I guess.  But no way is that some kind of deal-breaker for me.

How do you know I have a straight face? or that I?m sitting down?

You know you have too much time on your hands when...

Like I said, it?s a nice story you tell about how you could have made better investments with Steven?s money than he did.

Thanks. I'm sure pretty much any rational or free-thinking individual would agree with me Smiley

I?m not sure what you are referring to by standstill with Adler then.

Maybe they?re both satisfied with each own's accomplishments, regardless of what you or I think?

He has? I was under the impression he had released one full-length album. In case you missed the memo, Axl also appeared on albums by Gilby Clarke, Don Henley, Sebastian Bach, performed with Bruce Springsteen, performed with Gilby, and contributed some really cool voice work to Grand Theft Auto in addition to Chinese Democracy.

You seem intent on minimizing Adler's contributions to the GN'R legacy for whatever reason, but you?re having a difficult time.

Hardly. I posted multiple times about how in a perfect world Steven would be my first choice for a reunion and how I'd actually like to pay him someday to rerecord Matt's UYI drum parts, but perhaps those posts sailed right over your head.

Hey everyone, it's been a long time.

Mixed feelings on the subject. We all grew up with the old lineup, but we 've been through so much with the current one. Kinda sad if we don't get the album(s) that are almost ready. No idea how this Axl-Slash new era will work out but at the moment I don't think we have anything in concrete except from Slash's interview and the rumour from AUS...

Hope all works out for everyone in the end. And I do mean everyone, past and current members.
