I think at this point, if there was to be a reunion, it probably wouldn't make sense to make Steven your full time drummer. Its not 1987 and his.. er... fastball has deteriorated over the years. It would be cool to see him play some songs etc but if classic lineup ever wanted to tour, release and album, whatever, probably wouldn't be the smartest move to rely on him. S.A has quite possible shot himself in the foot every single time he had a chance. People who are born a circle rarely die a square.
Well said...that might be the best 5th post ever.
Hahahaha. God damn right.
And I agree, well said.

Sounds decent. But look at the setting.
Isn't this like draining a bunch of threes before practice with no hand in your face?

Yeah, AXL stated that. Slash strongly refuted that entire story in his book -- part of which I just quoted above! You really DON'T read anything do you?
Hahaha, nice attempt.
If Slash is such a Steven proponent then why has he not utilized him to a greater degree in his post-GNR work?
Why has no other band tried to draft Steven to make use of his miraculous talent?
I believe Axl 100%

Why is Matt so important to some?
I see it more as an anti-Steven vibe than I do super pro-Matt.
People just want a good, professional job. Matt is your better bet.
Hell, for that matter, Frank would be too.
Maybe for some on these boards, but no, overall I do not agree.
It?s only natural to want to see the band that created the songs you love performing them on stage.
As far as drummers go, in GN?R, that person is essentially Steven.
He is the most important drummer in the bands history, and it?s not even debatable.
He had a hand in all of GN?R?s most successful albums.
Matt stepped in late, and did an admirable job filling in live as far as I?m concerned.
He has a different style than Steven, so by default, he put his stamp on the Illusions, however minimal or significant they may have been.
He played on three of GN?R?s five albums of that era, and was a part of the very successful Illusions tours, so he deserves to be there as well.
Plus he would make a good insurance policy should Steven not hold up his end of the bargain.
Frank would make zero sense, as he has less than nothing to do with that era and his presence would only confuse people.
I think that's a matter of perspective. The people who remember that GNR era ( between 1987-1993) mostly just remember Axl and Slash, the blonde Duff was recognizable, but when Gilby came up some people thought he was Izzy. As a kid I remembered I noticed Matt was suddenly there, and not Steven, but did I know them by name back then? NO. Did I care? No. If Slash had stayed in the band all these years I think most people would not have cared about the rest of the band members, some wouldnt even be talking about a reunion.
So, if you had Axl and Slash and Frank on drums?. I don't think most people would even notice, some would notice and wouldnt care (Like I did with the Matt -steven situation) and the hardcore music fans would already know the whole story, and if you know the whole story you have nothing to be confused about.
I would take Frank or Matt, but I wouldnt care that much.
However I will say, that the drums on the illusions are awesome, and its part of why I love the illusions more than AFD.
But the drums on CHinese are from Brains?
I think, we can all agree, that we just don't want steven
I understand what you are saying, but that really just boils down to being young and ignorant.
I was in the same boat. I thought the drummer looked different in the Illusions booklet, but didn?t give it much thought until a bit later.
Probably something to do with being 9.
But if you give people options, what do you think they would prefer?
To see the guy who was there, that helped create that music you love?
or that guy that doesn?t look familiar, that you never heard of, and have no emotional attachment to?
I get that Axl and Slash are the focal point. I?m not in any way disputing that.
But they need a drummer. They need a rhythm guitarist.
If people have their pick of who those players are, I think it?s a safe bet to assume they?d choose the creators over the nobodies.
I was a fan of some of Brain?s work with Claypool, and Freese from the Vandals, but the drumming on Chinese does nothing for me.
Some of it is just fine. Some of it sounds cheesy and dated to my ears.
Steven and Matt are the obvious and only logical choices in my opinion.
I was also 9 haha.
I also see what you mean, but that only means, that despite their number of years in the band, you never grew emotional attachment to Brain or Frank, I do remember that when Frank came in it was 2006, and it was that very special moment in 2006 that I went to see them live, and Axl's voice was the best ever and Robin looked like a rock-god, and for me, Frank's sound with that line-up just clicked !, for me that was the best Modern Line-up, and the best time to be a GNR fan, feeling like Chinese Democracy was around the corner, and everything was finally working, ahh those where the days?.
So yeah I grew an emotional attachment to Frank.
So I have nothing against him being in a lineup involving Slash.

I just have a question as to why when we talk about a reunion with GNR its the AFD lineup that it would have to be to qualify as a full reunion? Isn't UYI just as big a part of GNR history as AFD and that was Matt Sorum who played on all of that except civil war. Honestly to me it doesn't matter who is on drums steven/Matt/Frank whoever to see Axl/Slash/Duff as those who I think are the most likely to be on any kind of reunion unless its a short tour like very select cities and then maybe izzy would be in for it but if it were to be something that is much longer I think the first 3 I mentioned is what you would get of the old band plus a mix of dizzy, chris and possibly Richard.
and just to clarify when I said the UYI albums are just as big as AFD im not talking about record sales obviously afd is an all time great album with the other all time albums of bands like the beatles, pink Floyd or whoever but just in terms of gnr history UYI to me is a big part as well when you consider the popularity of the songs off those albums.

IF there is a reunion/GNR history through the years tour that would happen, why don't we make up our concert sets/band lineup sets. Before the current band stopped touring 2009 - 2014, they we're starting to put on at
least 3+ hour shows on, a feat we haven't seen the likes of since the Illusion tours. Now, if that trend we're to continue, this (to me) would be the most reasonable wishlist.
This is based on all lineups, not just the AFD one. Despite it being a possible hardship to switch almost every band member during a possible hybrid set "Ok, the next song Steve's up, or Frank's up etc..."
I did my best lol.
AFD Lineup: Axl / Slash / Duff / Steve / Izzy
Welcome To The Jungle
It's So Easy
Mr. Brownstone
You're Crazy
Move To The City
Mama Kin
Down On The Farm
UYI Lineup: (Introduction of Matt / Gilby / Dizzy -- exit Steve)
Civil War
Yesterdays
Live And Let Die
14 Years
Don't Cry
Estranged
(INTERMISSION 10 MINUTES)
HYBRID (Revolving) Lineup: Axl / Slash / Duff / Steve / Izzy / Tommy / Robin / Matt / Gilby / Frank/ Dizzy / Richard / Buckethead / Chris
Chinese Democracy (with Buckethead / Tommy / Richard / Chris / Dizzy / Robin / Frank)
Better (with Buckethead / Robin / Frank / Tommy / Richard / Chris / Dizzy)
This I Love (with Buckethead / Robin (yes, it won't be D.J. playing the solo) / Frank / Tommy / Richard / Chris / Dizzy)
Sweet Child O' Mine (with Slash / Duff / Steve / Izzy / Tommy / Robin)
Rocket Queen (with Slash / Duff / Steve / Izzy / Tommy / Robin)
My Michelle (with Slash / Duff / Steve / Izzy / Tommy / Robin)
(MINI ACOUSTIC SET)
Patience (with Slash / Duff / Steve / Izzy)
I Used To Love Her (with Slash / Duff / Steve / Izzy)
You Ain't The First (with Slash / Duff / Matt / Izzy)
Dead Flowers (with Slash / Duff / Matt / Gilby)
So Fine (with Slash / Duff / Matt / Gilby)
Attitude (With Slash / Duff / Tommy / Matt / Gilby) --Duff & Tommy on Vocals
November Rain (with Slash / Duff / Tommy / Matt / Gilby / Dizzy)
You Could Be Mine (with Slash / Duff / Matt / Robin / Dizzy)
Nightrain (with Slash / Duff / Steve / Izzy)
Knockin' On Heaven's Door (with Slash / Robin / Duff / Tommy / Richard / Frank)
Paradise City (Slash, Buckethead & Robin get their own solo spots near the end of the song)
GoodF#!kin' Night!!!

I think A couple of people might be taking Stevens comments a little bit too literally! HE did crack a laugh after saying what he said about self harming etc
Look Steven is Steven, he's not the most stable bloke in the world but as others have stated I think he could pull it together and be used in a bit part role.
If there was a tour you could use him for say... 1 in every 3 concerts? Or use him at the start of the tour and then let Matt take over? There's a lot of possibilities in how you could manage him and the situation. I do agree that sold reliance on him would be a huge risk so Matt would be there anyway. I'm sure Steven would accept that, in fact keeping Steven with a minimum input would more than likely ensure he stays straight and narrow, I'm sure he's well aware that he can't fuck up.
Just my opinion

Might aswell do a reunion w/o Axl (for cherrygarcia, no ev0l numetal dictator 4 j00) if Steven 'isn't welcome'. If there is problems w sustainability then the network has to accommodate. Simple. I think Guest-appearances between afd-guys is the winner here tho.

He has made passive threats of his demise, and "joked" about killing band members...it is too easy to brush that off as rediculous Steven being Steven, until bad shit happens and Captain Hindsight goes "he warned us".
harsh...it's members who said way worse.

since Gilby, Steven, and Matt don't know anything about a reunion, I assume there's no reunion.
about a new album, the thing is recorded for years, but a new record doesn't make so much money.
read that, replacing "Metallica" with "Guns N'Roses" and you have the idea (but we all know that)
http://metalhammer.teamrock.com/features/2015-10-05/why-metallica-havent-made-a-new-album
I'd love to have a new single around november/december then a new album in march.
does anyone here thought about Kurt Cobain's "new solo LP" could have been a reason to delay 2015 plans?

I would say that Matt knows something. He pleaded the 5th and then laughed. He knows something. As far as Kurt Cobain's solo album, I think you are comparing apples to oranges. No effect on the rumored second half of CD.

I agree with that article, pretty much.
There are far more people willing to buy a ticket to see the AFD/UYI line-up play AFD/UYI songs then there are people terribly interested in seeing what those guy can come up with in 2016 and beyond.
If, god willing, this pans out, it's only going to be a tour. It's the only thing that makes any sense.

Because people expect GnR and Metallica to sell, so there is a very high standard set when creating, packaging and delivering new content. It is also being done by a major label who expects to make money.
Bucket on the other hand has released 213 studio albums, none of which have sold anything, if any of them were even moderately successful, just the pure volume of albums would make him the highest selling recording artist of all time, and my assumption is his 213 albums are outsold 100:1 by Guns N Roses' 8 albums (counting Live Era and GH).

You clearly don't read much yourself as you and the other Steven fanboys were asked at least half a dozen times to explain how Steven is such an an awe-inspiring drummer vital to the very essence of Guns N' Roses, and yet Slash, Duff, Izzy, and pretty much every recording artist on the planet have by and large avoided him since 1990. Steven even says Slash won't even have a cup of coffee with him and yet I'm to believe Slash is simply dying to record and tour with Steven?

There always needs to be a villain to the people around here and Steven always makes himself a top candidate!
I hope Matt gets the seat. The image of the band on the Rolling Stone cover with Matt, Dizzy and the core four is always the image of GNR for me.
But the absolute venom some of you guys have and lack of appreciation for Stevens contributions is puzzling to me.
To the question why Slash hasn't included him in VR and with the Conspirators .. I think it's pretty simple...
Steven was not at all functional during that time VR started, and Slash and Duff were very tight with Matt, and with the Conspirators, I don't think Slash wanted any members of his previous band's involved.
You guys don't like Steven because he has said nasty things in the press about Axl and the "new guys" and he is a terrible addict, and probably always will be. Not much else to it.
And in closing.. I repeat.. I prefer Matt Sorum, but I respect that some people want the original 5 only.

Don't be such a drama queen. Just because I love Steven's contributions to Guns' and vastly prefer his playing style to Matt's doesn't mean I'm going to sit here and wax poetic about the guy or advocate him being a part of a reunion when he comes across as nuttier than a pecan log. LongDayGone keeps reminding us ad nauseum "that it's only rock n' roll" and "Steven is pure rock n' roll, man" and yet not one rock n' roll band on the planet has reached out to recruit Steven since 1990?
