The 5 Greatest Voices in the History of Rock Music
By Brillion Williams -
Aug 3, 2015
There?s a certain magic to distinguishing between a regular ?good? voice and one that has that certain je ne sais quoi ? the one that sends chills up your spine. In order to be considered on this list, singers must be able to command an audience with his or her vocals. Each artist on this list of the five greatest voices in the history of rock music has a powerful, distinctive and unforgettable voice.
Number One: Axl Rose.
Rose is the frontman for the legendary band Guns N? Roses. He is arguably one of the most unique voices in rock music. Notorious for his lead vocals in ?Welcome to the Jungle,? ?Live & Let Die,? and ?Sweet Child O? Mine,? Rose?s aggressive and badass voice has made him a staple in the world of Rock music. In 2012, the band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Number Two: Tina Turner.
Turner was the former lead vocalist for the R&B duo Ike & Tina Turner. After deciding to end her abusive marriage to Ike Turner, Tina embarked on a solo career as a rock musician. Tina?s power vocals and confidence has made her one of the most prominent figures in rock and roll music. Perhaps the most well-known woman in rock, Tina?s biggest hits include ?The Best,? ?What?s Love Got To Do With It,? and ?We Don?t Need Another Hero.? The ?Queen of Rock ?n? Roll? was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1991.
Number Three: Brian Johnson.
Johnson is the lead singer of AC/DC, and he has one of the most distinctive voices in rock music. His unique vocals are highlighted on the songs ?Back in Black,? ?Highway to Hell,? and ?You Shook Me All Night Long.? Johnson?s vocals can been heard today on commercials, films and video games. Twelve years ago, AC/DC was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Number Four: Steve Perry.
Perry was the frontman of the band Journey in the late 1970s through the late 1990s. Perry is commonly referred to as ?The Voice.? He shows off his extraordinary vocals on songs such as ?Don?t Stop Believin?,? ?Open Arms? and ?Oh Sherrie.? Surprisingly, Journey has yet to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Number Five: Freddie Mercury.
The former lead vocalist of Queen has one of the strongest voices in Rock music. His vocal range is a four-octave, which is commonly the range of classical singers. Mercury?s vocals shine on songs such as ?Bohemian Rhapsody,? ?We Will Rock You,? and ?We Are the Champions.? In 2001, Queen was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

No.Absolutely not.As much as a fan of Axl's voice and stage presence I am I don't agree.
No damn list could ever be accurate since they're all based on some douchebag's opinion and views.
Were is Steven Tyler ? Elvis ? Plant ? Mercury is no.5 ? get out of here.

I only agree with nr.1
I would put Mercury, Plant, Maynard James Keenan and Elton John up there with him.

Totally agree with #1.
After that, it gets tough. So many great voices...some great, some more "unique..."
While I like Steven Tyler, I'm not putting him above Elvis.
Lately, I've heard some more of the voice that reminds me most of Axl's...and it's not Mercury or Plante, it's Joplin!
I'm not calling Axl a chick, it's just something about her music that just consistently drips raw, pure emotion. Like Axl, pretty damn gritty too.

Rounding out the bottom of the list at number 1,856,481 is Bill Bixby's ghost.
When asked about it, he said, "I never sang in a rock band. And I'm dead anyway."

no Mike Patton ? can't be serious.
cool to see Axl is number one, he has a very special voice not everyone enjoy,
so it's even better to see some kind of recognition, the guy deserves more.
two days ago I was with my good friends and we listened to music on Youtube,
jumping between rap, Elvis, fusion, and other stuff no one will ever remember,
and we asked ourselves the question about who are the best singers male &
females and we had a pretty nice list, like James Brown, Axl, Elvis, Janis, Minnie
Riperton, Freddie Mercury, Mike Patton or Bjork.
too bad I can't think about a singer from the past 15 years at that level. last one
was probably Thom Yorke.

Awesome to see Axl's voice recognised but in my opinion there is no one that can than top the great Freddie Mercury and I think Axl would completely agree with me

It's great that Axl is getting some props from the media, but I really couldn't care less about these 'lists'...I am holding out hope that I get a chance to hear my favorite singer perform my favorite songs at least once more in my lifetime...and if its in the cards - I would love to add to myown 'favorite songs list'.

I see Axl the same way I have always seen Jagger.
I would never go all that overboard praising the actual singing voice as much as I would lauding their overall abilities as a rock frontman.
In terms of stage presence, charisma, etc.
