It is a bit cheesy. I played it a lot when the album first came out because that was one of the few songs that were not leaked but these days I find it a bit embarrassing. Not at all what I was expecting.
Not cheesy at all, it is nothing short of brilliant.
I think moaning mortis doesn't like it because it doesn't sound like an AC/DC song.
No, I do not like it because it is rubbish. I like Streets of Dreams and that sounds nothing like AC/DC so there goes your logic!
It is not "rubbish" simply because you are unable or unwilling to appreciate it.
A lot of us do like and appreciate it, moaning mortis, your little labelling system is as mistaken and screwed as everything else you post.
I am not so sure about that. Looking at the replies in this post, most people (at best) seem to possess reservations about the song.
I'm a bit older than most, grew up on Queen and loved Elton so It's a song I can appreciate a lot.
I am a gigantic Queen fan! This I Love just does not cut it. Mercury would have binned it and wrote 'You Take My Breath Away' in its place.
I don't think so, and that is simply your opinion. I can hear the Elton influence as well.

Didn't like it at first because I thought it WS too sappy...But like ITW and SR it totally grew on me...I find the lyrics to be emotional if not deep as opposed to sappy..As for live I felt it was going to be sonically difficult to pull off and WS how I,pressed on what a gem it is in concert...

I find TIL comes off very well in a live setting as well.

Very much agreed. One of the more consistent new songs.

Hey, they can't all be gems.
And something tells me the last entry in this series of threads (which I think have been a great idea, BTW) will not struggle for praise.
I have just reserved my opinion on some of these tracks, that I really don't like
Well I did reserve my opinion. Haha

Love the guitar solo, wish Fink had played it live.
One of Axl's outstanding moments in the discography.

I hate the studio version of this song since it has too much Andrew Lloyd Weber feel to it. I agree with Mortis that I was sort of expecting something like Estranged. With that being said, I like the live version. It has much more of a bluesy rock sound to it.

This is not a song I like in any shape or form! Thought the lyrics were cheesy and the melody lines were not to my taste. Personally, I thought it was the worst song on Chinese Democracy. So I guess that puts me firmly in the 'hate' camp!

I absolutely adore this song. One of my all time favs! Just like Music of the Night from Phantom of the Opera!
Was so exciting to see it performed live at the Golden Gods!

One second ruined the song for me. And it was bad recording.
When Axl sings ''and
she holds
the pain inside'' around the 0:40 mark
To me it sounds terrible, like he's burping or vomiting and I cant stand it !
Robin's solo is godlike !

great solo. cheesy lyrics. it doesn't sound too generic but it kinda reminds me of Bon Jovi. yeah, a little Andrew Lloyd Weber touch to it.

Probably my favorite song on "CD", and the best solo on the album in my opinion. It is a different turn for the band but also has some familiar elements as well. Possibly a top 10 all-time GNR song for me, or close to it.

Not one of the highlights of the album, for me - though the solo is indeed good. In my opinion the lyrics are weak - the overuse of the rhyme on the long
i
vowel makes the lyrics seem contrived and trite.

I listened to it a lot when it came out. Its a good song I think, but not amazing. I actually do like the solo on the song, but I would have loved Slash and Duff working their magic on it.

one of the masterpieces of CD with Twat or Prostitute, and one of the best GNR tracks ever.
very emotional, don't listen to it as much as I would like

Its a bad recording, an unfortunate moment in which he added raspy throaty vocals and it didnt mix well with the echo and reverb in that particular second with those particular syllables. I can't listen to the song without that moment spoiling everything.

I love this song, and I have ever since that november day in 2008 when CD arrived in my mailbox. I actually prefer Ashbas solo over the one on the record.
