Could Axl blow up the internet today?
«

HYPOTHETICAL SITUATION:
Axl decided to tweet a short 30 second videoclip of himself sitting in the studio by the piano, playing the verse of a unheard song while singing a couple of lines from it.
Would it reach the levels of media frenzy as with the first leaks from Chinese? Would every major publication write about it?
Do you guys think Axl could create an internet earthquake in 2015 by doing something like that?
Personally I think when it comes to Axl, there's something special. Whenever there's something of excitement (music) coming from him, the media are quick to throw whatever opinions they may have had of him in the past, either on the person or his music. I think the interest will always be there, no matter how they viewed his last musical effort.

Honestly... I don't know.. It would certainly get attention... VH1, RollingStone, Blabbermouth, USA Today, the big city papers would all cover it just like they cover some quote by Slash saying never say never.
A clip of him and another guy strumming on a guitar like we are talking about in that other thread...
then yes... the internet might break.

I think whatever he announces will make people pay attention.
If it relates to new music, it'll get more attention than say boxing tweets.

A reunion would blow up the internet. Just look what Slash saying never say never did.

It would be big news, I think.
Could be an interesting bit of guerrilla marketing. Would cost you nothing, and people would talk.
And us, we'd talk our lungs out. We'd have 4 different threads going. It would be awesome.

Would you be able to handle four discussions at once? All track records point to a "no".

I do not think anyone would care beyond gnr forum nerds. Blabbermouth and Eddie Trunk will report it, but beyond that nobody will care.

Depend on what it was. It would have to be music to get real mainstream attention.
Him telling some dumb joke or just fucking around for 30 seconds? No, no one cares about that but us.

Yes but a leak of a song would not have the impact as when TWAT for instance leaked. The world quickly grew weary of the shenanigans. We went through about ten years of it! I also think when you hit Vegas you have checked out as an artist. There was a certain amount of people gripping onto statements like,''Physical Graffiti remixed by Trent'' to cause an interest with the earlier leaks. When you see your guy trotting out the hits in a casino, without the slightest inkling of new material, you realise it has gone. Now, I would put Axl in the interest barometer as a Vince Neil. He might have leaks or albums which cause interest among Blabbermouth, Eddie Trunk and Metal Sludge but Rolling Stone won't care. He has sort of burnt his bridges, by choosing to be a nostalgia act.

Brian could present the shopping channel. His immortality is already assured.

Well, that's a little harsh. And I do think 'Rolling Stone' would pick it up. They have always been favorable towards Axl.
In terms of his standing outside of us? I think its largely indifference.
I think the reaction is "
Oh, is he still doing that? With a bunch of guys that aren't Slash? Call me when there is a reunion."

If this gains any traction he just might. The song in question is on spotify.

Yes, you are probably right about RS. But I think interest has diminished since CD. In actual fact I am not even sure a reunion would be as big as it would have been, say five or ten years ago. I get a sense that interest has dropped a bit.

I think the public interest and appeal is greater than some haters and supposed "fans" would ever care to admit.

Axl can blow up the internet any time he chooses!
A simple tweet about a new album especially would light a fire under the web's ass!

Did you think the KISS reunion would print money like it did? I did not.
And I'd have to think GNR is looked upon more favorably than KISS, who were always sort of a joke.

For which?
A reunited band, or the current band?
