You Dig What The Fuck I'm Saying, Homefuck''?!''

« Reply #20 on: April 22, 2015, 04:23:32 AM »

Semi related, but am I the last to know that the iPod classic has been discontinued, and the average price for a new 160gb on amazon is something like $600?
What the fuck??!!
Yeah, im in deep deep trouble when my Ipod stops working. I was looking for some alternative ''ipods'' from other companies just yesterday. I really would want to find something compatible with itunes with minimum 150gt space.

Get Spotify or whatever the next mobile app is going to be.  I know iTunes is relaunching one soon.  I am also one who likes to have his whole library with him at all times, Spotify solved that.  I am anxious to see what iTunes does.
Im too stubborn to get spotify.

1. i dont want to depend on having (fast) internet to listen to music, (i love listening to music while travelling.) plus i dont have a smart phone.
2. i dont want to depend on what spotify allows me to listen, theres a load of good music that is not there, plus my own music, and my bootlegs ect,ect...i want to be the dictator of my music collection.
3. i want to keep on buying cds
4. I think spotify rips off artists.
5. the audio quality is far from what you get on cds.
6. i dont see the big difference between youtube and spotify. both allows you to listen to music that they have, you cant own it.

I actually thought those exact 6 things you just said until about a year ago when I got Spotify Premium.  You can make offline playlists saved to your phone so you don't need any internet connection at all to listen to those songs.  The audio quality difference is very small when you compare it to having just about every song ever recorded at your fingertips in seconds.  Does Spotify rip off artists?  Yeah, probably .  I do know that whether it is fair to the artists or not, this is reality in 2015.  Artists should be happy that Spotify gives them anything honestly, it is all available for free on the internet anyway.  I predict 10 years from now buying physical copies of  albums and movies will be a thing of the past, it is going to be straight up subscription services like Netflix, Amazon Prime  along with making purchases solely through services like  iTunes.  There will be no physical copies of anything.  It is just way to convenient to have all of that content in a matter of seconds without having to store cd cases and vinyl all over the place.
I would still prefer a alt ipod of sorts. I have currently 264gt of music on my itunes, including more than 100gt of live gnr bootlegs. it would be a shame to throw it away.
One point is also that the battery life of a ipod is not even comparable with the battery life of a smart phone, in use.

I thought this would have been a great NIN song.  For GNR, it's average for me.

I think you maybe right about the demise of physical formats in the near future, and that is pretty frightening to me.
Vinyl is always my first option, but obviously doesn?t travel well, so I never leave my house without my 10 year old 160GB iPod.
I understand why some people can dig Spotify, but it?s not for me. I like owning the music I listen to, and I think building up my library makes me appreciate it that much more.
Services like Spotify are almost too convenient for my taste. If I purchase a record, CD, whatever, I will give it more of a chance to get into.
If I were to listen to something on Spotify, there?s really no investment into a particular album, so I will probably lose interest and move onto the next.

Like you said, it?s reality whether we like it or not, but it?s tough to ignore the fact that it is taking away from artists, and some bands I enjoy are on record as saying their desire to make albums is affected by the lack of revenue they generate today. I choose to buy records when available because I like the experience of having an actual product in my hands, having the artwork, reading the lyrics, they sound better, and doesn?t hurt that it puts some cash in the artists pockets, so hopefully the hard goods won?t fade away too quickly.

I think the iPod is a great invention. Mine is on probably 10 hours a day, but I can?t imagine not being able to walk into a record store.
It?s happening, there are very few in my area anymore. The world has gone crazy.

I fully agree, Good thing is that theres still a lot of record stores in Helsinki. Most sell vinyl only . My thing is to buy a Cd  then i burn it to itunes, then i mostly listen to it on my ipod, or computer. I need that artwork, and i will buy cds until they make em.
Some times i buy some individual track on itunes, like the the new Bowie tracks on his new compilation. And some stuff i cant find on cd. Like music from The Compulsions.

I'm no audiophile, but I think the sound quality on iTunes could be better.

I mean, I'm trying to do the right thing and not just steal it.  But what you are offering me is lower quality stuff then I can get elsewhere.

Get it together, Apple.

Apparently they have $16 TRILLION Shocked available to spend how they wish, so you are right, sort it out Apple, there's no reason why they couldn't operate a premium service to  run along side the current system.

Their Alac system is awesome, no idea why they sell in only aac 256 kbs.
When you burn a cd on itunes you can choose your rip quality, the options are everything from Wav to the crappiest mp3
