According to Brain he's in character pretty much the whole time.
Love the Josh interview when he talks about Bucket going by himself to Disneyland. He had a walkman with a tape where he had recorded himself playing the theme songs to the different rides. Then he walked around in the park listening to himself playing the theme songs as he visited the rides.
Then Josh asked Bucket what he had recorded for
one
specific ride (don't remember which, but it doesn't have a theme song), and he said: "that's just me going off, soloing"
