Kid Rock mentions Axl in an interview with Rolling Stone magazine:

...his debaucherous three days with Axl Rose a few years ago ? "I was like, 'Why's everyone think this guy's a dick? He's the nicest guy on Earth!' "

http://www.rollingstone.com/music/features/the-killer-inside-kid-rock-20150226#ixzz3SsqroRYQ

Billy Corgan mentions Axl in an interview with a local morning show in Australia about the war on pop music:

He asserts that rock "will be fine" but needs to be "more aggressive" in taking on pop -- just like the good ol' days: "By definition a rock star is supposed to be an independent individual who pursues a vision to an end -- an Axl Rose, an Elton John. And a pop star is supposed to do whatever they can do to pray at some horrible idol of fame which is ubiquitous and fleeting."

Hmmm...maybe? I have all the DVD's of those shows.  What was the date? I'll try to hunt down that show and see if the source is any good.

In the rolling stone interview he also mentions that artists Like Axl and Eminem who are "Very reclusive, literal, and sometimes you feel a little bad for them. Sometimes they think the world's against them. You gotta loosen up, man! People are gonna talk shit. You just gotta enjoy it!"

Those Hammerstein shows were off the hook, never forget those days hanging out all day Mustang Harry's then going to the shows at night, that was just phenomenal. I have those shows also on DVD. The crowds were wild at the shows. Was the first time I met so many people I just used to read the words of  , from this forum and from all over the world, great times indeed.

I saw that Kid rock was on Fallon the other night, but I missed the performance. Truth is I didn't really care for him at the show with GNR, he seemed out of place wasn't the best showing , could have done with out him there.

Big time.  What's the point of being crazy famous if you can't enjoy it?

I remember Charles Barkley calling Michael Jordan "a prisoner of his fame" and said he would never do that.

Who ever said Axl doesnt enjoy any of this?

Especially recently/last year the guy had the biggest smile on his face

He travels ttbe world.  In the past has been seen packs gave at some big concerts.   He as dated some very beautiful woman. Ha some great homes to live in.  Has some very fast cars to drive    Has a very loyal set of friends.

All of the above are things he enjoys because he is famous   And most are a result of being one of the biggest rock stars of all time

From what I have read he is also a night owl.  That loves to sleep durrin the day and be awake at night.   This also is a benifit of being rich and famous.  Where if he wasnt. Chances are he would have to work Monday to friday 9 to 5 with the rest of the unwashed masses

Just because a guy chooses to live a private lifestyle an isnt a fan of crowds or dealing with rabid fans random public people or the media.  Doesn't mean he is not enjoying being famous.  And it's not a bad thing or a weird thing at all

I  have to agree with Baconman. With that being said, I still think and feel that Duff is the most successful person from GNR and is enjoying life the best.

I think that is hard to really say, who are we to know how happy Axl is living his life compared to Duff. I've read plenty of grips that Duff has expressed thru the yrs, with various things, via his column, and in interviews. Not the least of which having his pancreas explode, that sure as hell couldn't have been a highlight. Axl didn't have to endure that kind of life sucks moment. Sure he does things on his time. But no way does that mean he hasn't been very happy or near happy at most junctions. And sure he was un-happy with the record comp at various times, as we know. Still in the grand scheme of things, he doesn't strike me as someone who has many regrets or had any real life sucks moments.

AXL SLASH DUFF = GOAT

« Reply #13 on: February 26, 2015, 10:14:35 PM »

I don't have the specific quotes, but Axl has said things and hinted other things that make it clear he was not particularly happy much of his life, but is happier now than ever.  Think about him.  His early life he was abused.  After he became famous he found it very difficult dealing with things from his childhood.  Then his band fell apart. He admitted that Beta basically saved him during the post breakup years.  He's talked about the frustrations trying to make Chinese Democracy.  But when asked more recently, he acknowledged that the last few years were the best of his life.

And that right there is one reason that I can understand Axl not being in a rush to release new material on anyone's schedule other than his own.  Its his life and it really seems like he's putting his happiness above all else, and I imagine there are negative forces he's going to have to deal with when he finally decides he wants to move forward in a serious way.  And thats an admirable thing is many respects.  Some might say selfish I suppose, but he can be selfish to me.  I'm just a fan, not his family, so he doesn't owe me that sacrifice of putting my happiness before his own.

I agree with 14 years.

About the Duffs life vs Axls life (this is reallyy silly)

Its about what you want in life, Duff has got a family with kids, plays in different bands all over the world, writes books, and is a investor and does other  business things on the side to make a good living.

We dont know a lot about Axl, but from i suspect, he has enough money for rest of his life, likes to party with supermodels, is the leader of a huge rock n roll band. And controls the band with his own means, what looks to the outside, recently much without stress.
And what seems to me he has his own team brazil as his family.

Id take the Axl life anyday.

From my own perspective, I would rather have a similar life to Duff than Axl. With that being said, yeah I agree that it's fruitless to compare both lives. Both seem to be in a better and happier place in life and that's what's important. They say that people are much happier the older they get. This seems to be true for GNR members.

Axl seems happier than ever onstage.

Compare his demeanor now to his prime.  He seemed miserable on a lot of that UYI tour.

I was at the first of the Hammerstein shows ( 15th?). The excitement in the air before hand was amazing. No one had a clue who the new guitarist would be. Saw Dizzy hanging out on the floor before the show. Just wandering around before the place got packed. Great show. Couldnt believe i was seeing them at such a tiny club.
