Anyone have the tapes handy? I've got 'em, but they're stashed away and not handy.
If you look at WHO released the collections, that should answer a lot of the questions about who would have to release the blu-rays.
Edit: Checked amazon. Says the studio that released is Geffen (ditto for the Tokyo concerts). If correct, that would mean Universal would release them on Blu-Ray.
ALSO, since there are DVD versions of the things we're talking about...it means there's been some digital work and restoration already. Not, necessarily, a lot..but the material is at least in digital format.

I agree the songs would have to transferred to blue ray
However
Why would the record label have to do this or pay for this?
Who's gonna pay for that work?
If you want Blu-ray quality, it'll cost more than just putting them out. Who knows what quality the music videos were filmed in to begin with. They might need restoration work to look good on Blu-ray.
That's what they do with movies.
Nobody wants to buy a Blu-ray that looks as good as a VHS tape.

I agree totally
It's going to cost money
So who's should pay
Even if the record label owns them. I am sure if Axl came up and said hey I am paying the bill to remaster these videos as part of a big release. To celebrate the bands history and as a bit of a thank you to our fans.
I don't think the label would pass that up

They're on Vevo/Youtube, they're digital for sure.
I assume they didn't do any restoration work. Just made a transfer from analog to digital and put it out.
Otherwise I suspect they would've made a big deal out of. "Remastered for DVD" or something similar...

There are DVD versions of the Making Vids? News to me. I know there are laser discs of those. There are DVDs of the Tokyo concerts and the Welcome to the Videos.

I haven't fired up my DVD of Welcome to the Vids in awhile...but weren't the "making of's" included as bonus features? I could be wrong, for sure..but I thought they were.
