More bad news for the Cards, Carlos Martinez has been shut down for the season with a shoulder strain.

C-Mart was in all likelihood headed to the pen for the post season giving the Cards a back end of him, Wainwright, Siegrest and Rosenthal.

Absolutely fucking brutal and demoralizing.

I have mixed feelings about that upcoming series. I'm glad to see the Mets doing well for the first time in quite awhile. On the other hand i can't help but root for Mattingly.

Thanks Falcon!  I hope they do take out the Dodgers, but the 'reward' for that will likely be a trip to St. Louis.  Honestly, although I hope the players don't take the approach of just being happy to be there, I'm just happy that they'll be there.

Those (like me) who thought the addition of Papelbon might mess up the chemistry in that clubhouse (never mind screwing the young closer out of his role) look like they might have been spot on.

And the legend of Paps being a "bad clubhouse" guy grows.....

Paps suspended, by the nats, for 4 games...on top of the 3 he was suspended by mlb for throwing at someone.  He will not pitch for the nats again this year. I suspect that might turn to "ever".

Maybe not ever again period. Who's gonna want a guy who jumps players on his own team in the dugout.

My pleasure George, enjoy the ride.

Not sure if you'll be seeing the Cards going forward if the Mets take care of biz against the Dodgers.

The injuries have been overcome able thus far but the latest to Martinez and especially Molina could prove too much and make for an early exit.

The Nats have removed Pappelbon's jersey from the team store. The writing is all over the wall on this one. He's soon to be an ex Nat.

And now Steven Piscotty gets carted off to the hospital with a facial contusion after a nasty outfield collision.

He's been the Cards best player since being called up, incredibly unfortunate.

Your team just can't seem to buy a break this season. Should be interesting to see how well they can do in the playoffs this season. Mets, Cubs, Pirates and Dodgers are all legitimate threats.

If anyone can keep that monster going, it's Matheny.  The job that guy's done this year is beyond incredible.  Manager of the Year IMO.

Unfortunately for Matheny, I think he'll fall victim to "only" reaching high expectations with voters overlooking the mess he's been dealing with all year.

He'll get votes for sure but maybe a Top 3-5 finish at best.

My guess recency bias gets the award to "Quotey" Joe Maddon or Terry Collins.

Piscotty is out of the hospital and is expected to play by season's end, great news considering the collision last night - that was scary.

Waino has come off the DL and will be available out of the pen Wed, Fri and Sunday per Mozeliak.

Effective or not, recovery from a ruptured Achilles that quick is just silly - the guy is definition of a gamer.
