2015 Baseball season/Off Season Discussion

I have to hand it to you. I thought you were crazy with your over the top Blue Jay fandom. But so far it has all played out like you predicted, or at least hoped that it would. I'll be pulling for them. They should be fun to watch in October. It's good seeing the fans in Toronto caring about baseball once again too. Of course, if the Red Sox were any good I'd be singing a different tune, but they're awful. Wouldn't mind seeing the Jays and Astros in the ALCS, or even the Royals. I think I'd probably pull for the Mets in the NL. Their fans have had some rough years of late.

Obviously, nobody knew that. And nobody knew they'd make all the trades to exponentially improve their team, except Bacon of course. But the Yankees are clearly going to have to play better than slightly over .500 if they have any chance of keeping pace with Toronto I'd think.

I new all the trades the Jays needed to make.

I didnt think they would actually make every single one I called for.....

I thought Donaldson was going to have a great year in a hitters park, instead of that graveyard in Cali.  I never thought he would be having a MVP year.

Reyes seems like a great guy and is a good ball player, with good stats.   He doesnt make a team win though.  Gone are the stupid handshakes and smilling when loosing..   In is king Tulo...  Just a total pro.  I was calling for Reyes to get traded for over a year.  Didnt think we could dump that contract though..  And never thought we could pick up someone like Tulo instead..

I picked the Jays to win it all at the start of the year.  Only if they made the trades we needed.  I guess my screaming at them in Seattle in July worked.  Cause they made them.  And they are winning!!!!!!!!

Cant wait to party in Toronto on the 25th!!  3 games baby!

I just can't entertain WS match-ups with the Mets right now, not with their not-so-distant history with playoff races.  They blew a 7-game lead in 17 games, so a 6-game lead in 29 games would be a cakewalk for them.

Honestly my feelings with Reyes have always been hit and miss....   Sorta like that stupid brother you have to love becuase he is your brother and there is no chance of getting rid of him.   hahahaha  Thats what Reyes contract was like to me...

Can't blame you for feeling that way. The Mets have had some epic September collapses before. Plus there's always the chance that Washington could finally put it altogether and play like the proverbial World Series favorite everyone made them out to be. I would be a little worried about the young pitchers entering uncharted inning territory heading down the stretch, notably Harvey and Syndergaard. Interested to see how they hold up.

They played almost exactly .500 baseball in Aug.

I don't expect, honestly, them to play a WHOLE lot better in Sept.

As I said before, I'm not convinced of ANYTHING with this team.  They've proven they are capable of playing very good ball.  They've proven they are capable of playing very bad ball.  Both the pitching and the offense (though, I think, more so the offense) have proven to be VERY streaky.

I think, right now, Toronto is playing the best ball in the AL. Better than KC, even.  The lead might be paper thin right now (1 in the loss column), but it feels like MILES considering the way they've been playing.

Yanks helped themselves going 5-1 on that road trip.  They have a net positive in home games the rest of the way (and I think the Jays have a net negative by, like, 5 or 6 games).  And they've got 7 games against the Jays left (whether thats a positive or negative....I'm not sure).  They certainly have the opportunity to crawl back in and take the division.

We'll see if they seize it.  I'm not convinced, yet.

No matter how the Yankees play agaisnt other teams.   They always seem to bring there A game agasint the Jays.

Every time I'm ready to bury the Yankees, they seem to bounce back. It wouldn't shock me if they won the AL East, but it also wouldn't shock me if they missed out on the playoffs altogether. Not to make it sound like I'm not willing to take a stance on them, but they're hard to figure out. Their roster doesn't seem all that imposing on paper, yet they win more often than not. Girardi really does get the most out of his players. They don't seem to be built well for October. An offense that sits back and waits for the long ball, for the most part, and the lack of dominant starting pitching or middle relief. Those aren't usually key components to a successful playoff run, but they should get a chance to put it to the test.

The bigger issue is Harvey, the rest of the guys seem to be on track as far as their innings go (using a 6-man rotation for the rest of the season), understanding that taking on playoff innings will be above and beyond expectations.  But Harvey is another story.  First, he's the only one coming off TJ surgery, so that's a specific risk for him.  Also, his agent Scott Boras is in a battle with the Mets brass right now to shut him down for the season at 180 innings (he's at 166 now).  No month-end division race games, playoffs, World Series, nothing. 

I'm a big believer in monitoring overuse with pitchers and being particularly careful with young pitchers coming off major surgery.  That said, fuck him.  Pitch the fucking baseball.

You are right about the fans.  Almost 48000 there for every home game now.  The city looks electric!! 

I a 3 1/2 hour plane ride west of there and even all of us are jacked up!!   The whole country has baseball fever
