Gomez to the Mets is dead per Rosenthal, Mets backed out due to Gomez's medicals.
Theres no crying in baseball!
Brewers are saying Gomez is fine, that the Mets backed out because Brewers wouldn't kick in any cash for Gomez's contract (which isn't terrible at $9M/yr). Either way, the whole thing is beyond embarrassing.
They wanted a pick or money kicked in..and when Brews said no... they used the medical as an excuse... At least that's what i think happened.

Jack Curry just retweeted a couple things, re Pineada:
1) Brian Mitchell, NOT CC, is pitching tonight
2) It's a forearm strain, not an elbow, and not considered serious.
We'll see...
Edit: The above is according to Joel Sherman, who tends to be more reliable than Francesa.
And now others are chiming in and saying pretty much all the Yankee sources are confirming forearm strain. Which isn't to say that it won't turn into something more, but....
Heyman says Grade 1 forearm strain, could be out a month or less.
Still, not promising. Things can tighten up a LOT in 30 days.
Oh, and we're back to CC starting tonight...Mitchell for long relief, Pineada to DL.
Not a good look... We need a starter
I don't dislike Mike Leake.

I want to see Severino already.
For them to pass on price and hamels... he better be the real deal.

Multiple other sources deny that, and say it's not true. That it was the medicals. I don't know which is true...given this is the Mets, nothing would surprise me.
The rumor was his "hip", but I think that was a nice way to say his groin/adductor issue isn't 100% fully healed based on the medicals. Whether that's true, or was just an excuse 'cause the mets got cold feet....i dont' know.
I was somewhat surprised that Zack Wheeler has become trade bait, though I guess if you're going to trade any of the young starters, he'd be the most logical pick given the uncertainty inherent with coming back from TJ surgery and the fact that, while he's been very good, he's been the least impressive compared to Harvey, deGrom and Syndergaard.

Speaking of the Mets...
Up 7-1, then 7-5.
At home, top of the 9th, They have 2 outs, 1 strike, nobody on base for the Padres, and go into a rain delay.
Start play again....Padres manage to put 2 runners on base, and then they hit a LONG home run to go up 8-7.
And now, another rain delay (looks like).

Looks like Cards and Indians going to trade Moss for prospects.
It's a used band aid on a broken arm.
They're gonna need a helluva lot more than that.

I just don't see the point.
We don't need a left fielder...in fact, there is a glut of out firld talent on this team.
And we don't really need a 2nd baseman....unless they are shipping other people out for something else.
The guy isn't hitting much better that drew....and not nearly as good as Ryan. I guess you could platoon him with Ryan, move drew to ss, and bury didi in a hole somewhere.

That move, assuming someone has to go (ryan, young, or drew) might actually make the Yankees WORSE.
Mind boggling. There has to be something more here.
Joel Sherman is having the same sort of quandry.

The yanks are spinning the ackley trade as, essentially, garett jones replacement (bye bye garret). All 3 OF positions and 1b...with the addition of being able to play 2b (badly).
So, they gave away 2 players to get what they had, already, so they could send jones packing (at least, that seems the obvious move).
I think cash caught jones screwing his wife..or his sister.

Well, at least the Cards did do something positive today signing an in excess of of 1 billion dollar TV deal that will keep them on Fox Sports Midwest and also provides them with an ownership stake in the network.
They literally print cash, it's good to be the Dewitt family these days.
