I think it's a bit creepy when you have people thinking they know somebody based on a public "image". Often based on negative things.

Others think its creepy to feel the need to so passionately defend a musical artist like it was your child being picked on on the school bus.

Creepy is in the eye of the beholder.

Common sense would dictate that if you took the time to format and develop a fan forum, that you might ostensibly be a fan of the band for which it was developed.

I find negativity and ignorance creepy, as well as people that visit fan forums to whine and complain constantly.

Well, I think we all pretty much new record sales aren't much of a thing anymore.

But as we've said many times, all sorts of artists still release albums.  And they don't have delusions they will sell like hotcakes.

If you are going to totally stop releasing albums, fine, do that.  But then cop to the fact that you are a nostalgia type touring band.  People act like that term is synonomous with "leper" or "rapist".  If that's what you are, that's what you are.

I knew record sales were bad, I didn't know we're on the verge of not one single artist having a platinum album all year for the first time in modern history.

In any case, it's not one or the other, i.e., release albums like Beyonce does or just go the nostalgia route.  That makes no sense, given that they've already created the new music.  It's a matter of figuring out what is the best approach for this particular band to release its music.   The process of making it seemed to have been long and brutal, so them wanting to maximize the financial side of it is obviously understandable.  

For example, is it realistic for them to go the U2 route and work out a deal with Apple to download on everyone's iTunes for free?  Do they go against the grain and make it an 'album only' download?

I make assessments based on public track records.  Musicians, athletes, politicians, and yes, message board posters.

How you present yourself to the public dictates how you are perceived.  Welcome to the world.

Assessments based on public track records include a great deal of assumption to fill in the blanks, when you assume you make an ass of - etc.

Doesn't your complete lack of interest in a serious conversation, coupled with your total disdain for me as person (theoretical disdain, anyway) make it more than a wee bit odd that you respond directly to so many of my posts?

I think you've missed out the word  "Commercially" and that's a given. If on the other hand,  a CD2 world tour is on the cards too, then I guess commercially, the album would pay for itself in other ways...

I don't think it has a chance of being successful in terms of numbers.  Not sure there is a huge market for this past us.

But the lack of doing so at all speaks to your credibility as a legit band.  When faced with factors like not writing anything in (at least) 8 years, not releasing anything in 6 (and counting), and content to do tours based around 25 year old albums, you are faced with two conclusions :

- this is legit viable band

- this is a touring band and nothing more

Which would you rather try and defend?  To defend the former, you are going to need one very cooperative audience devoid of just about all critical thinking ability.

Very true, I was reading that there hasn't been a single platinum record in 2014.

It is very debatable whether success should be judged on record sales or radio play  imo.

If you are already drawing from a pretty finite ticket buying base, and even some of them are telling you openly that they have seen this tour several times and won't be going again unless its something different, you can't be blind to that.

Which doesn't mean you HAVE to have a new album, I suppose.  You could always call the next leg of the tour 'Use Your Lies'.

The only people saying they aren't going to concerts unless certain conditions are met are the "fans"  on the internet forums, which make up a very small percentage of the fan base.

I am a member here and post here, I won't be ignoring posts from anyone that I fundamentally disagree with. I dont believe  I have told  you to "f*ck off", I don't have a "schtick"- I'm not the one going on multiple forums to complain about basically every aspect of a band I am a fan of.

I will "lighten up" when your negativity and constant critiques do. It is great for people to throw disparaging commentary toward GNR, but when someone throws a few comments and observations back, it is a perceived outrage.

Example #1:  Axl's 2002 VMA "SOON is the word" interview.
What Axl actually said was "I don't know if soon is the word."

Example #2:  Axl recently saying in an interview something about "looking into" getting new music out.
Only Axl - and DgenX of course - know what Axl thinks "looking into" involves/means. 
Maybe he looked into it and thought he'd rather not do it.  We don't know because we don't know his thought process behind it.  We don't know if Axl thinks "new music" is stuff that didn't make it's way onto CD I or does it mean something else.

Discussing what we the fans want to believe what was said or meant by those statements can be much different than what Axl thinks.

I have never met Axl Rose, but I "think" I know how he feels.

In fairness, there are other quotes that are unambiguous and interpreted correctly.

When asked, in 2006, if CD was coming out this year, Axl?s response: ?Yes.  Absolutely.? (from Chinese Whispers, btw).  Also, the ?we?ll be here next summer with a whole bunch of new songs? isn?t really up for interpretation either.

I agree though, in the Revolver interview, he didn?t say CDII was coming out soon (or at all).  He said it?s already recorded, and they are now looking very seriously at what to do it.  With all the lawsuits, media scrutiny, etc. over the years, I think he chooses his words very carefully. 

I am under no delusion (nor am I demanding) that new music will be here soon.  At best, we might know what the plan will be with the new music.  The frustrating part is we know (yes, we know this because Axl said it) that these songs are done.  We?re at the goal line so to speak.  It seems easy to just release them (they?re done, no more money to spend on them, and even if albums don?t sell as good as they use to, it would certainly sell better than being kept in the vault).  However, it?s easier said than done, and I?m sure there are a host of issues (record label cooperation/buy-in on a marketing and distribution plan, contribution payouts to former members, tour, etc.) that are at play.  Plus, maybe he just doesn?t want to release them anymore.  Who the hell knows?

But he?s Axl Rose, he doesn?t lack in determination (or so I?m lead to believe in interviews).  IMO, if he want it out, he?ll find a way to make it work and get it out.  In that regard, his interview was positive and made me believe that he wants to get it out.

"Soon is the word" was used a joke.  It became the joke because it wasn't happening anytime soon.

Actually, the "we know what Axl thinks" point I made that flipped you the fuck out was how he feels towards the label.  And the point is that Axl tends to not either accept blame nor forgive and forget, and likely feels the label owes him a big apology.

As to the actual example you use, we've been over this too many times to count.  Depending on how literal you want to take it, eventually you wind up without being able to talk about anything because it all so unfair and dangerous to speculate.  This isn't a court of law.  Its a fan forum on the internet.  Axl Rose is not going to sue us for libelous damages if we speculate on something.

And, just as an aside, do you REALLY think there was a great chance Axl was going to "look into" the new music and determine, nope, not going to do it?  Does that seem logical?
