I find it hard to believe that major festivals booked GN'R because there's a lack of demand. And why would the Hard Rock Hotel ask them back so soon without demand? Makes very little sense to tour without any demand.
Playing one city for 2 weeks is not a tour. This might be where the confusion lies.
As for festivals, do you mean abroad? Because I am talking about domestic demand. There is obviously greater demand abroad than there is here. The numbers bear that out. They also have the courage to do full tours aborad, which would not be done if they had the doubts they have about the U.S. where their touring practices are not nearly as ambitious.

When you add a residency to a bunch of other shows, it's kinda like a leg of a tour. Yes, there was a break for a few weeks.
So now the discussion is about what a tour is?
Well, let me just point out that just because you have a residency, you still have a crew. You still do many of the same things you do on tour. Except you travel less.
The festivals I referred to were all held in the USA in 2013 and 2014.
I hope you didn't forget that in the past 18 months GN'R have headlined multiple US festivals....

Yeah, I could see calling it a leg. Would never call it "a U.S. tour" though.

Which is good.
They are also safer tour dates. When you are on the bill with umpteen other bands, who can really claim who is selling what of that live gate?
I see multi-band festivals with huge crowds, and small clubs when they are on their own that might not even be sold out in some spots.
I think they are more realistic about their level of domestic demand than you have been today.

The issue was demand. If you're asked to headline a festival, it's because the band playing at noon is a bigger draw than you?
You should really be a concert or festival promoter!
You keep making statements like they're the truth, I keep giving you facts. You keep changing the issue when you were proven wrong. Or at least having a fairly skewed perspective.
For a guy claiming to champion the band, you sure like to put down their achievements! Way to be positive there.

I would, but I am just really swamped right now.

As usual, you are taking what I say overly literally. Presumably, its because you don't like the bigger picture inconvenient truth I'm pointing out that you seem to spend a great deal of time shielding yourself from.
If I have to pick defending anything I've said to the world at large, versus trying to sway their #1 superfan with a VERY vested interest in NEVER wandering off the reservation, I'm not too concerned the audience that matters will agree with me.
I'll win every debate with society, you'll remain the champion of the bubble.

You keep saying there's a lack of demand, they can't sell out a small venue (in Philadelphia). There's a world outside of Philadelphia. Yet you keep coming back to this one place. Who's the one in a bubble?
I told you about multiple festivals who booked GN'R to headline. Something that's usually for artists with some kind of demand among the concert going public.
Who's in a bubble?
As I said, for such a supportive fan, you sure like to put things the current band has done down.
Instead of acknowledging these festival bookings as something positive for the band, you switch to saying something about people going to festivals no matter who plays.
How is that being positive? I thought you wanted all the best for the band.... Did that change?

As a rule, you. I've found.
Las Vegas is another city, BTW. If you're making a list.

You, generally. Your posts support this.
I believe I said that was a good thing. Way back, like...two posts ago.
Would also once again ask why you are taking things so literally. Questioning their level demand
does not equal
saying there is no demand at all.

Man, I had more bubble lines. Killjoy.
We just covered the fesitval thing. Hopefully you'll do better paragraph to paragraph than you did post to post.
We have always defined "support" in very different ways. I have never, nor will ever, define it as blind devotion combined with a burning desire to crush all dissent, no matter how tame.
You want me to ignore all easily proven facts on the ground in the real world, and instead accept your fantasyland version of events that doesn't resonate outside the bubble.
Frankly, what's in for me? I can join you in denial? Credibility actually matters to me, solider.

That's still relatively cheap compared to other concerts that aren't near the quality of GNR.

Prices are pretty nuts.
I wanted to go see the Eagles, but at $350 a ticket? Who the hell is worth that?

I am honestly tired of slogging through his negative litanies that he feels compelled to repeat day in and day out, and labelling them "discussions" is but a thin facade for his hater posts.
And believe me when I tell you that every day I hope you can eventually overpower the guy with the gun to the back of your head forcing you to not just read them, but respond to them.
Unlike you, I have a life of my own that doesn't always allow for endless hours on numerous message boards, nor do I feel compelled to do that.

And also, I like how Gen X often plays the devil's advocate (not sure if I am using this phrase correctly or not). He is generous with his opinions and it is always interesting to see him engage in debates. To me he seems to be a very dedicated and controversial forum member. He must really like GNR considering the amount of time he spends discussing their operations.
I'm just looking for a conversation with fellow fans, which we all are.
I happen to still be legitimately interested in what Axl is doing, and the only place to discuss that is here. The other sites are fun as a diversion, but not a lot of serious conversation about the current situation.
I'm never going to popular here because I don't just wave the pom-poms. Which is fine. Its just not who I am. Even though I spend every day here with guns trained on me constantly, I'm not just going to start lashing out at people like a child. That's not a serious was to have a constructive dialogue.
Making valid observations about someone that feels compelled to go from forum to forum on a habitual daily basis to make disparaging comments not only about all aspects of GNR, as well as matters that are not up for negotiation, but also pathetic shots at the real fans and supporters, referring to them as "pom-pom" wavers , is an apt observation.
I expected nothing more from you though. You seem to be locked into a holding pattern of negativity and fault finding.
I have enjoyed GNR for years, and will continue to. Every show, every song and every release.

Well, as a rule, I don't grade the "realness" of fans. I'm not sure what that means.
I would say if you are a person still keeping up with that the band is doing, still interested to hear their music and see their shows, you are pretty much a fan. I don't know what else you would call such a person.
But this...

Every song? Even 'Rhiad & The Bedouins' or 'You Can't Put Your Arms Around A Memory'? Come on now.
Honest moment. When the last time you played 'Shotgun Blues' on the old iPod? Just you and I talking, off the record.

I am very old school, I don't own an Ipod, do have an excellent stereo system. I rank GNR songs far above any other band I listen to. Before GNR came along I was an avid Aerosmith fan
What's wrong with Rhiad and Shotgun blues? Variety is great, and with GNR there is a great variety of styles.
Honestly dont get why it is necessary to argue about, and against things that are not up for negotiation. It reeks of fan entitlement. It is not up to fans to play promoter, or to second-guess management, these are armchair quarterback maneuvers.
I understand why you enjoy conversation, and I see you have a little legion of your own supporters, which is probably part of the reason you go from forum to forum spreading your refuse, it is for attention, justification, acceptance- just as I outlined earlier.

Very few GNR songs I don't like.
Even the ones on that short list, I don't hate, I just think each album has a weakest track. All albums have a weakest track.
AFD is my favorite album by any artist, ever, without question. But does that make 'Anything Goes' a great song? Eh...not really. Its not terrible, but seem a cut below the other 11 tracks on there. Kind of juvenile.
That juvenile angle also would be my reason for my two least favorite tracks on the UYIs, 'Back Off Bitch' and 'Shotgun Blues'. Kind of childish. And I can't stand them alongside 'Novermber Rain' and 'You Could Be Mine' as equal works.
'Rhiad', I just find a bad song. I'm not sure what the concept is there. I find it pretty disjointed, and almost atonal is parts. Weakest track by far, and by a better margin than any other weakest track to its next worst track, on any other album.
But that's 4 songs out of what...70, overall? Not too bad.

I'm aware that varying people will have their favorites among songs, as well as the ones that for some reason they label "inferior". I tend to listen to the deep cuts off any album as opposed to the popular songs that everyone knows, and has heard a thousand times, personal tastes and preferences here, there is no right and wrong.
Even your signature which states "deal the fans some new goddamn cards" is a demand rife with entitlement issues. The band owes you nothing, no "goddamn cards" in the form of new music, no news other than what they choose to share. Being a fan does not entitle you to a say in business decisions, it does not entitle you to pick and choose management, venues, members nor any other internal decisions there are to be made.
Honestly can't say I understand this attitude or mindset, arguing over non-negotiable issues is ridiculousness in action.

Going back to what D-X said about attendance, I know that the IZod Center at the Meadowlands in November 2011 wasn't a sellout. I was at the show and saw plenty of empty seats from where I was sitting. Back in the day, you wouldn't have seen that in a NYC area venue.

The economy, and the music business are very different than they were "back in the day", so I don't see how this is a valid observation or comparison.

Well, they've yet to call, so I've rather made my peace I won't have any say in the day to day operations.
Pretty ridiculous concept, really, but I can see its just being used to make a larger pissy point. Which I understand, at least in terms of where its coming from, I just don't take it seriously.
Look at the venom in these words of yours. Not just this post, all of them. My lord.
We're talking about a rock band on the internet, sweetheart. This is a band I think we both hope is still around for a good while. Are we really going to go through this everyday?
Lighten up, Francis.
