How about a country GNR tribute album?
«

Yes I too would prefer a New GNR album:
with recent respectable covers by Carrie Underwood an' on the heels of the Motley Cr?e country album, how cool would a GNR country tribute be?
What 15 songs would make quality country?
Perhaps:
1-SCOM
2-Nov Rain
(Both done great by Carrie Underwood).
3-Don't Cry
4-Breakdown
5-ISE
6-Yesterday's
7-PC
8-Used To Lover Her
9-Patience
10-TIL
11-So Fine
12-My Michelle
13-Civil War
(Already done Ina countryish style on a GNR tribute).
14-You ain't the First
15-Nightrain....,

Different genre tribute albums can be very tricky. The songs are either excellent or cringeworthy.

This is a bad idea, honestly don't think the majority of GNR songs would translate well to country music.
I'm not particularly fond of the genre either.

There are a few songs that might work, but I agree, many would not.
I'm not sure the Big & Rich take on WTTJ would be any good.

I think it is a great idea, really outside of the box. Some of the Motley tunes turned out pretty well on the record. Not even a big fan of country music, but I can definitely think of 10-15 songs that would work. I see no harm in doing this type of record, its something different, and thats a good thing.

I agree. I'm not a country fan either, but I liked the Motley tribute album. Not all the covers were great, none were better than the originals, but they still turned out mostly well for what they were meant to be.
I've never thought of a GNR country tribute (nor had I thought of one for Motley either), but I would be open to the idea.

I think these would be the most country music friendly GNR songs:
SCOM
Patience
Used to Love Her
Dust n' Bones
You Ain't the First
Yesterdays
Breakdown
So Fine

I think you are probably right with that list, however I got a funny mental picture of some drawling country musician trying to sing Back off Bitch.

Gareth Rhodes sure is a talented guy. He should really go for it! But not with a country-cover album. He can stand on his own feet. Maybe he even could be a country-artist.
But keep that country in the country, not to Gn'R.

The Motley tribute album landed at number 5 on the billboard chart, thats very impressive. Not the rock chart or bullshit iTunes chart, but the actual real Billboard chart. Pretty nuts.

Impressive, but not surprising. Americans love country. Still, Saints of LA debuted at #4. That's even better. Point is, I guess, charts doesn't matter. Gn'R should focus on their own legacy, not counting on pop-gimmicks will put them further up the stream. Slash is good at that I've noticed, and lots of people don't buy that...

I think a cover album of old songs done by artists of an unrelated genre debuting at number 5 is way more impressive than the actual band debuting at number 4. I don't think there is anything wrong with trying to get your music into the mainstream, and like I said before the Motley country record was done by legitimate respected country artists.
I think charts are more important in 2014 than ever before. In this day an age with all the ways to get music for free, when someone actually lays cash down to buy your art that is pretty impressive.
I don't believe in a band just doing something for cash, as you said a certain ex member is very good at that. But if it is an idea that the band thinks is cool or interesting then I'm all for it.

If it was done right it could be cool. I really like traditional country music. The Crue tribute was created by country music anti-christ Scott Borchetta. What you get is mostly a big dose of dudes wearing cowboys hats,Affliction brand t-shirts,wallet chains, etc. To me that is all fake but it's what people are buying.
