It would be interesting if they did a fan club show and just did an open ended setlist. They'd either have to be in the studio working on new music, have the time in between show dates, or in tour rehearsals to do it.

Can be tricky though.
Pearl Jam does this and lets fans pick the setlist. They go nuts and start picking b-sides and album tracks that have never been done live. Having heard some of these shows, I can tell you that some of the performances are a bit spotty, simply because the band is not used to doing them.

I find it a mixed bag. A lot of times, there is a very good reason some songs don't get tried live.

You know, this is something you know by now, but the setlist can never be perfect. Somebody will always find ways to improve it to their personal liking.
I think most would agree that the setlists from the 2010 Canadian tour were damn near
perfect.
Pretty much all of
Chinese'
was played in addition to the hits; no one left unhappy.
I was lucky enough to see three of these shows here in Canada and they were the most complete set-lists.. I think out of the 3 different shows I saw all 3 may have had different songs played.

I actually like covers songs, as a rule. See what sort of spin a band I like puts on a song by another artist.
Problem with GNR is that they already have 2 covers that are pretty much never coming out of the setlist in LALD and KOHD. So even playing just one more cover, now you are up to three, which is high for a band on their level.
Thing is, I would never drop LALD or KOHD from the setlist. I hear people say they would, but not me. LALD is a good tune live, and KOHD is such a tradition at this point.
After all the years touring now and always playing LALD and KOHD a fan should not be upset that it has been dropped, as you have had plenty of chances to see it dropped. Don't be upset, but be surprised and happy

I'd just like to hear something that hasn't been played live, Don't Damn Me, for example, is an awesome tune.
I sometimes wonder myself why Don't Damn Me was never played live. I think it would be great. I'm lucky to say I heard all the songs off Chinese Democracy expect Riad N 'The Bedouins. Maybe one day. Even The Shotgun Blues was never played live.
I feel it really comes down to how Axl is this feeling that dam. I mean it's not easy to sign for around 2 1/2 hrs every show. I'm sure that's why the set list is the way it is. It gives him a break and also the other members. I said, it before I'm really happy with what ever songs they play. It is cool how you never know what surprise they might have that night.

Try singing along to 'Don't Damn Me' just in the car. It ain't easy.
Now imagine trying to run around onstage spitting all that out.
I love the song. Think its probably the best song on that album. But I think Axl would have struggled with it in 1991-93. Today? Out of the question.
