I would not enjoy society conforming and catering to the immediacy mentality of certain generations.

I enjoy complete albums, the contrast of one song to the next and the statement and impact of the Album as a whole. It is an Artistic statement.

Fortunately I think many artists, especially rock artists feel the same way.

Actually I  agree with you on this one Emily.  I don't want to see the album business model go away since you might be missing some really good songs.

I brought up John 5 earlier in the thread...

Jim over at GNRTruth found a clip from this season of That Metal Show where John 5 gets asked if he was asked to join Guns after Buckethead left, and he answers rather cryptic:

"That's a fine question 'cause I don't know what rumors are true or not. But I heard, you know rumors and things like that. Not the Fleetwood Mac album "Rumors", but rumors about the Guns N' Roses gig, so ahm.. I don't know if those rumors were true so I can't answer that... completely."

Interviewer: "There was never a call, like 'Hey...'?"

"I don't remember.... I don't remember... I get calls all the time."

I think he is voluntarily feeding the fire and enjoys the attention, why make statements like that when you don't have to?

Ron seems to have turned into a drama queen

I hate how he is always laughing and thinks his situation with GNR is joke.  And he is such a victim.

Sooner or later you have to cut off the cancer or it will spread.

Really doubt any of us here would turn that down.

John 5 was really ambiguous with that answer.

Brain would probably do it the way Duff filled in for Tommy.

From a new interview with Ron....

Uber Rock: You seem to have plenty going on right now.

Ron Thal: It?s going to be a very musical year; we?ve got that, we?ve got my album coming and we?ve got the thing with Darryl McDaniels, DMC himself [from Run DMC] and the metal band Generation Kill with Rob Dukes, who is the singer who?s from Exodus. He?s an old friend of mine and he hit me up while those guys were putting it all together and asked me if I would do the production and add some guitars. We?ve got one song done so far called ?Rock Lizard?, and it?s a real nasty song! Hopefully we?ll get a lot more done quick so we can get it to everybody?s ears and get you all to hear it.

Uber Rock: Reading between the lines I would guess that you?re not going to much have time for anything else.

Ron Thal: (Laughs) There?s always time for something else. [Regarding his status in Guns ?N? Roses] I don?t want to mislead anybody about that, but at the same time, I just need to shut the fuck up.

Totally Driven TV - Ron Thal Interview

Mar 20, 2015

Ron Thal: People think, pay me and I'll play your songs. And that's not who I am.  I tried it.  It's not who I am.

Later in the interview he talks about being "the hired gun" guy, and he says that he won't put that experience down. There were wonderful things about that. He thought doing both (own songs and other's) could be appreciated. In all fairness to the guy.

It seems like he's out though. When he gets asked a hypothetical question about joining a band like Megadeth, he said that he would've turned it down. Just because he wants to focus on doing his own music.

What I don't understand is how doing his own thing has been such a big problem for him whilst in Guns. All the other members are doing stuff on the side, both solo and other bands. They seem to fit it in just fine.. Especially when you're "just" doing a solo thing on the side I would think you're even more flexible than say Richard who's done several other bands on the side.

He's always been a solo artist. GN'R probably was the first real band he joined.

On his solo albums, he does everything. Not in GN'R.
Totally different.

Out of the shadows, into...Hell?

« Reply #1575 on: March 20, 2015, 06:17:57 PM »

So putting everything available together, and totally leaping to my own completely speculative conclusion, it looks to me like Ron wanted to be more than a hired gun.  He played on CD, but it wasn't HIS music, and expected that he would have input on new music/next album. As DJ Dizzy and Fortus talked about writing and working with Axl, BBF's discontent started to show in his comments.  His sstatementsabout writing a song a month seemed aimed at Axl in some sort of passive agressive play to force productivity. I was holding out hope...the dude is great, and was a great fit...but its all too much, and I have moved into the "goodbye" camp. Sad

Ron seemed pretty pissy about not being involved in the creative side of guns.  While other members have talked about writing and recording future and past things with guns.  He was always talking about how he wasn't invloved and how he wanted things to go

Like you said I can't see his solo efforts affecting gnr at all, unless there is concert conflicts

I think he's out. Future will tell though. It's a shame but to be honest here, anyone have heard Ron's name before GN'R?

LOL, no I had no clue who the hell he was. Course I didn't know who Bucket Head or DJ was, either. (I'd heard of the others, however.)

And, yes, he's out. Not sure why people continue to speculate this. I guess they're waiting for him to visit their houses and tell them personally. (This isn't a jab at you.)

People are going to speculate until the management team makes an announcement.
