I think at the begining he had respect. But he should?ve left a lot earlier if he was disappointed and frustrated. Instead the guy decided to stay for the pay check while moaning all the time.
Yeah, I agree. It didn't take him 8 years to figure all this out.
By any objective standard, Axl should rip him apart, publically. Look at the shit he said about Buckethead.
How is this any different?

I saw his words in this interview clip really just as as some weird joke. and he has been some weird talking to in interviews before, so maybe he just was messing around not thinking about much.

Well eleven years difference.
And also, this shit's being going on for a while. It's not like it happened just before a scheduled tour.
It's a little different. Not saying there won't be any comments, but there's some differences between this and other past situations.

Axl could rip him apart. I have a sick type of fun when Axl rants a la Get In the Ring
But in this case besides the rant he better tell us if we should look forward to something, like a new member, tour, album, reuni?n... anything.

Yes, the "reign of doom" comment seemed to be part of the joke, and it just came out in a way that could be misinterpreted.
That said, to me it feels like Ron has been out of the GN'R loop these past months more so than the rest of the band members. I don't think it's just about an hiatus. Putting together comments from Richard, Dj and Dizzy it seems like they at least have an idea of the status of the new album.
My guess is that he's been out of the band since the last tour ended.

I was thinking more along the lines of how Axl accused Buckethead of using GNR to further his own solo career.
There has to be at least as strong a case of Ron doing the same, right?

But yeah, even if it was a joke, it was not the smartest comment to make. Way to alienate the GN'R fans.
Yeah, that's my take too.
Are GNR fans really going to find this all that funny? I mean, maybe if he didn't have a history with this crap, but he does.
These strike me as the words of a man that has arrived on a new land and burned the boats, eliminating the chance of a return voyage.
If it's not gnr fans watching this clip, who else is watching it? Ron's close friends and family?
If it's a joke, it's not funny.. Not as a defender of gnr. But as a defender of comedy. That joke sucks
It's poor comedians strategy The one were they try to make themselves look better at other peoples expense Instead of just letting there material do the work
Ron, let your material do the work. Before you bash a gnr song, try writing a hit on your own. As much as I am not the biggest fan of scom, I dare any musician to write a song that captures the audience the way that song did Let alone a song that could even sell a quarter of what scom sold

I don't think Axl accused bucket of doing that
From what I remember that came from previous management Kinda feeding that in the ear of Axl

It was in Axl's statement about Bucket's departure.
But years later he said that he based his opinions on the info given to him by management.

Kind of a phony argument, or beef to have, in my opinion.
Ron or Buckethead aren?t lying when they say they played in GN?R.
I?ve had jobs I?m very happy are in the past, but that doesn?t mean I?d omit them from my resume if applying for another job.
Axl giving Ron the opportunity to play in GN?R has afforded him name recognition, and financial stability he may not/probably wouldn?t have found otherwise.
It wasn?t a one way street, however. I?m not sure anyone outside of Axl can truly be considered integral, but think Ron was probably as close as you could be in the Guns N? Roses of today. His technical skills are far beyond those of DJ for instance, whose strength supposedly lies in songwriting/producing, but those skills are of little use in a band that doesn?t write/produce. GN?R is a touring act, with the big shoes of Slash/Buckethead to fill and Ron had the chops to do just that.
Plus he sacrificed 8 years or so of being a creative artist, which eventually is going to takes its toll on anyone who?s not in it solely for financial reasons.
So, not personally losing any sleep over Ron leaving, and he?d probably be better served to take the high road, but it?s not as though he was given a blank check.
Axl/GN'R, and Bumblefoot benefitted from each other, but apparently it?s run it?s course.

It doesn?t matter if Axl has accussed Buckethead or anyone else for that matter. That?s the truth. Do you think any of the guys who have been part of the new band were there just out of love for Axl and GN?R? I guess at this point Axl doesn?t care if they are in for self promotion.
They get name recognition. They get the chance to make new fans for their own projects, they tour the world, the get to do interviews and they get great deal of attention. Those are the reasons why they are willing to prentend they are GN?R members.
At least Gilby and Sorum still enjoy the friendship of the other original members and they get together to perform. When have we seen Buckethead, Brain and Paul Tobias doing something together after they left GN?R? Never. That shows there never was any real friendship and chemistry. They were mere co workers

I honestly think it's part of the band members deal now. (Side projects). They are not on a salary and get paid while touring
Where is back in the buckethead days the band members where on a salary. So ya I would be a little more pissed over that. If I am paying someone 24-7 to be in my band and they are using it as a vessel to promote something else. That's not cool.
If the guys are not getting paid they should be free to do what ever they want.
Even though I can't find it I think bucket and brain are stil pretty cool together. Robin and brain both did guest spots on a gnr tour. I don't really think there is to many hard feelings there.
But you are right. Def not as tight as the old days guys

Plus he sacrificed 8 years or so of being a creative artist, which eventually is going to takes its toll on anyone who’s not in it solely for financial reasons.
Abnormal came out in 2008.
Then he went on to produce other artists while he was in GN'R. Anyone remember Poc? She recorded her album with Ron, and then she got to open for GN'R in Mexico.
It's misleading to say he sacrificed his solo career. It was going on at the same time. The same with his guitar clinics. He had multiple clinics while GN'R were in South America last year for example.
The difference is that he had to make plans around GN'R's plans. As a solo artist, you don't need to take anybody else's schedules into consideration.

It's a little different. Not saying there won't be any comments, but there's some differences between this and other past situations.
I was thinking more along the lines of how Axl accused Buckethead of using GNR to further his own solo career.
There has to be at least as strong a case of Ron doing the same, right?
I don't think Axl accused bucket of doing that
From what I remember that came from previous management Kinda feeding that in the ear of Axl
Bucket and Brain have played numerous shows together. They have made albums together as well.
Robin and Josh played together in NIN.
When was that? I never read nor hear anything about it.
Robin and Josh on the Lights in the Sky tour. They also played together on The Slip album.
Bucket and Brain albums post GN'R:
Kevin's Noodle House
Brain as Hamenoodle

The Dragons of Eden
Thanks, I didn?t see any interview or shows review about it.

While I think his comments are kind of dumb, jokes or not, one of the things I've always liked about Ron was that he speaks from the heart, rather using the standard calculated PR speak you hear from most musicians these days. In addition to him being an incredible guitar player, that quality was the most 'GNR' thing about him IMO. Had to argue that he's not out at this point... if so, that's too bad.
