Nobody with a shred of common sense has ever said it was a good idea to make that the next GNR record...... lol... those songs were awful...
I actually called those suckers up a few months back after talking about it here one day.
Man, is that stuff sub par. Just...just not good.

But forcing Paul on the rest of the band / employing the entire band was Axl's biggest mistake of all time. Because IF it's true that he never wanted them to leave which he said... then that was probably the worst way to ever go about it.
It ran it's course. Not Pauls fault, Not Axl's fault, Not Slash's fault.
Yep. Over and done.

Axl can tour all he wants and with whoever he wants. The problem is he is calling his band GN?R. I don?t need the name GN?R to buy an album or tickets to see Axl. I have seen Slash and Duff performing with other people and not under the name GN?R. I would do the same when it comes to Axl. I don?t know why he feels he must carry the name. I think the name Axl Rose all by itself is big enough. Just look at Ozzy Osbourne. He did great as a solo artist.
He did it for business reasons. Reasons I can't really argue with. Axl was smart and the others were dumbasses.
As for Ozzy, he had more than a wee bit more confidence in himself than our man seems to.

He brought the name in with him, why should he not tour under it if he so chooses? Izzy quit and Slash or Steven could have laid claim to "Roadcrew" just anytime, that was theirs.
Hahahaha.
Fair point.

The opinion on Paul Tobias should've changed as well.
Agreed.
I considered him nothing but an Axl sycophant that in no way was worth breaking up the old band over.
I still sort of maintain my feeling on the latter, but in terms of the former, you can't argue he was not a huge part of the creation of the new material.
Paul Tobias has been label the Yoko Ono of GN?R. The problems begun long before Paul was around. The guy had nothing to do with Adler, Alan Niven and Izzy leaving the band. And he had nothing to do with Slash and Duff signing papers giving Axl full control.
Axl can tour all he wants and with whoever he wants. The problem is he is calling his band GN?R. I don?t need the name GN?R to buy an album or tickets to see Axl. Most definitely agree with this. Axl and Slash could easily tour without the GNR name. Neither one of them needed it. I think Duff needed it for a short time, but not anymore. To be honest, I think Duff actually became the most successful person from the original lineup.

I would have to give it to Slash, I think.
They can both claim Velvet Revolver, but then Slash has his solo career now. Duff can't really match that.

Maybe because it was a name he came up with....
/jarmo
Exactly, I don't get how people don't understand this? Axl started the band and came up with the name. Axl picked certain people to be in HIS band. That band made a great album, and then people started to leave and get fired. Does that mean Axl shouldn't carry the name anymore because certain people are gone??

Ideal? I don't know. I do remember how those two guys weren't exactly universally accepted either.
I think once they were gone, people started missing them. While they were in the band, it was ok to ridicule them and the band.
Those of us who enjoyed it while it lasted, are often them same ones you guys label as zealots.
/jarmo
I also remember this. Some people just don't accept the present, because it might not look the same. Then as years go on, they are like...wait a minute....they were pretty good, or he was pretty good.

Well, 2002 was a complete shock to the system.
I personally didn't care as much about the football jerseys, the botox and the braids, although many did. I had a far bigger concern that Axl sounded awful and there was no power in his voice. Even as time has passed, I still think the boots from that tour sound bad. Thought it when I first got them, think it now.
2006, he was in far stronger voice. And you were a bit more used to there being a new band, and they didn't look quite as goofy. But the important thing was that he sounded great. Those boots sounded good then and still sound good now.

I agree with you on Slash's solo career. The reason why I say Duff is because he has branched out to do writing, owning a restaurant/bar, and a financial business. Additionally, he got a college education after he left GNR.

I do not agree with this.
While feel Duff is the one that seems to have it more together. Shit the guy went to university. Got clean and sober. And has a great personal life
Axl with out a doubt has been the most successful from the original line. Headlining of festivels with some pretty be concerts in eroupe and also CD sold millions. He made lots off it.
I think Slash would be second. With duff third.
As for izzy. Who knows. I dont really know to much of what the guy is up too

Overall in life, it's Duff. He got his stuff together and doesn't rely on one source of income. As much as I say that Axl and Slash are my childhood idols, Duff is the person you sort of want to model yourself after. Kids, marriage, different business ventures, and plethora of hobbies.

Trust me. Marriage nothing to look up too. Been there done that and also durring the peak of revolver duff got back on the pills. And had a bit of a problem. No one is perfect.
I still give the personal nod to Duff though
Axl does also seem to be doing ok these days. Seems very happy in concerts etc. Also u dont here anything negative about his personal life, since the early 90s. He seems to have it gotten figured out.
I think Axl is sitting on a good chunk of money, but it could of been so much more if things were done a little different. But money isnt everything and the dude does seem happy

He definitely seems happier on stage the past few tours.
Quite the contrast from the UYI tour, where you'd have thought he was being forced out there at gunpoint a lot of nights.

I actually always liked the braids because it made him look younger. This longer hair and weight gain has really aged him. Not that I really care that much about how someone looks....as it's about the music, but I didn't mind the braids at all. And if any white rock star would do it, didn't surprise me one bit that it was Axl. I will always love that he pretty much does what he wants, even if it's completely out there.
Yes, his voice has been in and out ever since he came back (and with what he sings, the way he sings and has sung, I get it), but it was back in the day as well...maybe not as much. However, I always thought from day one, he had very talented players in his band. I could care less how weird they were.

2002 had a bit of "try hard", in my opinion. I found the jerseys, botox, and braids him trying to be hip. And not having it really land.
But come 2006, I thought pulled back braids looked good. And he was in tremendous physical shape and voice. That's what's important to me.
The weight gain? To me, its like more of the same. So long as he sounds good, who cares?
But he doesn't sound good. 2009-10 wasn't quite as good as 2006-07, but it was still pretty good. He was also in much of the same shape.
Come 2011 to present, he's not in as good shape. And his vocals a lot of nights were a disaster. Is there a connection? Dunno, I'm not a doctor. But I do know when he was in better physical shape, he sounded better. So, if pressed to take a stand, I would say he would do well to hit the gym and get into some better shape in the hopes of restoring his vocal performances to what they once were.

Thats always a good sign things are good at home
Stress/pressure of the release of CD. Law suits Ex member bs. Etc...
The guy laughs now, has put on a couple of lbs and just seems like life is good.
Which isnt always the recipe for more success for an artist
For example. I just watche a doc on Freddy Mercury. The boys said Freddie would always be his best in concert when he was pissed off and fitting with his partner. That may also be true for Axl. As some of the best I have ever heard him sing is when he is angry.
I also think the struggling artist thing is true. Axl seems very relaxed/happy. Not stressed over the next pay day etc.. So mb no rush to get new music out...

Just as an aside, we are 49 pages into a topic you won't even take a stand on, Jarmo.
You all so gleefully tell us there is nothing to report so no one knows anything.
Is that really expected to carry 49 pages of on topic posts?
Should we come here every day and have this exchange :
Anything new on this?
Nope.
OK. Tomorrow maybe. See you then.
