but whatever it is, I'm finding it hard to believe this in any way will improve the odds of a GNR album release any time soon.

I don't think GN'R is influenced by this in any way. Why would it? If he's on the album, his parts have been done already.

I wouldn't be surprised if Axl will probably want whoever replaces Ron to contribute parts to the next album in the same way he wanted Ron and Frank to contribute to Chinese' after Buckethead and Brain left. That could set the new album back a few months, if not a year.

DEFINITELY a concern.

BBF when posting the press released neither confirmed nor denied about being a member. So anyone who reads the press release could easily believe that BBF has joined that band.

Ron seems to think he's in the band.  You're saying he's not?

We're not talking about recording a song, or a collaboration.  Scott wrote the lyrics, sings on the entire album, and did videos with the band.

We'll have to see how involved he is in the project once he's done touring the new Wildabouts album.

Nobody should write a press release about something it might happen in the future. At this point Scott is not a member of that band. He was rather quick to deny that he is  a member. If in the future he changes his mind and he decides to join that band as a member. Well then someone can write a statement announcing that Scott is their frontman. They just needed to say that Scott colaborated but nothing more.

As for BBF I think it?s time for him to cut this crap he has to be 100% clear about being a member of this new band or being a member of GN?R or just being a solo artist. He should?ve never posted that statement  because it is inaccurate to say the least.

Sadly, it is.  And I would argue, the whole thing is unnecessary.

Does anyone here seriously consider Ron or Frank part of the creative process behind that last album?  Frank's few drum fills at the beginning of TWAT are swell, but do they really change the song?  Not really.  To be fair, I actually do think Ron's cut and pasted riffs help on the title track and 'I.R.S.'.  But did they really change the song?  Nope.  I'd also argue that Ron's guitar outro on 'Catcher' is a god damn train wreck.  Changed that one for the worse, way worse.

Axl put those guys on there to give the illusion of collaboration.  He was trying to put a good spin on a bad situation.  Three main people behind the creation of the material wanted nothing to do with him.  So he throws this stuff on there to say "look, see...we're a band!"

Did you buy it?  I didn't.

So I don't need Ron's replacement to throw down some random riffs in hopes I might believe he was involved creatively.  Give me some credit.

I agree... I don't need a new guy to come in at the 23rd hour to add to a song from 2001

They issued a press release announcing the band and saying they will put out an album in the spring.

Ron posted the press release stating he's a member of Art Of Anarchy.  He's said he's going to focus on his solo career.  We are waiting for GN'R management to let us know if he is still in Guns N' Roses, or not.

Yeah. Whoever put together that press release obviously gave Bunblefoot credit for the hundred million or so albums GN'R sold.
STP sold about 40 million. So suddenly the press release is less impressive.

/jarmo

The band also has the bassist from Disturbed. Not that I'm a fan, but they've sold over 30 million and he played on four of their albums. Both Disturbed and STP are pretty big on their own. Plus VR. Add in Chinese numbers for BBF if you must and whatever other projects these guys have done and it's probably somewhere around 100 million even without GNR's back catalogue.

Disturbed plus STP makes about 70 million. Less than half of what they claim these people have sold.... Besides, the bass player joined the band later on, so he shouldn't be credited to albums sold before he joined. Wink

I just think whoever wrote the press release wanted to make the band sound bigger.

/jarmo

Of course they wanted it to sound bigger - have you ever seen a press release that wasn't designed to promote whatever product/service was being pushed? That's the whole point of a press release. It's a promotional tool.

* Note that while STP+Disturbed would be 70 I said "plus VR, Chin Dem" plus whatever other bands they've been in. I really don't know much about the other members to be honest. Although admittedly they still overshot the number quite a bit. Moyer has been in Disturbed over a decade on several platinum albums though. Good enough. Him, Ron, and Weiland are enough of a draw. Problem is they don't really have Weiland at this point.

On topic - anyone else get an Alice in Chains sort of vibe from a couple of the clips? They actually don't sound that bad, if a little late to the game. If this shit came out in the 90s it would have sold a few million. Now? Probably won't be more than a blip especially without the big-name lead singer.

Has anyone considered that it's a fluid situation and they may still be hoping to reach some sort of agreement? Not putting out a statement is probably the best thing they can do if they don't have to tour right here and now.

Maybe.

But that's pretty much best case scenario.

"When they find their front man to hit the road and play some dates, check them out," wrote the singer. "In the meantime, if you want to check out where I?m at RIGHT NOW, check out my band, SCOTT WEILAND AND THE WILDABOUTS."

In an exclusive statement to Rolling Stone, Thal wrote that the group is not intended to be competition for Weiland's other band. "Art Of Anarchy is not competition or a threat or interference to what any of us are doing - it's a complement, an addition, one I'm proud of creatively," Thal said in an e-mail. "No need to minimize or undermine or devalue a project we all worked on together over the course of two years. I enjoyed working with Scott. And I'm looking forward to the Wildabouts album release, the Bumblefoot album release, and the Art Of Anarchy album release. The more music the better, it's what we do, right?  Smiley  Artists do collaborations and a month later, their own album comes out. This is normal stuff. All good. Smiley"

What Guns N' Roses release?  No release has been confirmed, has it, unlike Weiland's album, AoA and Ron's solo album.

Thanks Hinge.  This is getting interesting...

Artists do collaborations and a month later, their own album comes out. This is normal stuff. All good."

Thal went on to take a diplomatic approach to Weiland's contention that he would not be performing with the group on any live dates, noting that the group doesn't know if they'll even tour. "The five of us made an album together. Scott is currently the singer of the band. It's in writing; no confusion," added Thal. "But yes, Scott's solo album and tour are his priority and we're all on the same page about getting another vocalist if Art Of Anarchy hits the road. But we don't need to cross that bridge just yet. Taking everything as it comes, one step at a time, letting it evolve organically. Where it goes from here (and with who!) is yet to be seen."

No one lied.  Nowhere does it say that Scott is going out on tour with the band.

Quote
Poised to become one of the biggest new bands of 2015, Art of Anarchy is redefining the rock supergroup. Meet the ?mega group? ? band members are rock legends in their own right with over 150 million in sales.

Art Of Anarchy members are some of rock?s heaviest hitters and most versatile musicians. Iconic front man, Scott Weiland with his instantly identifiable voice needs no introduction.

2015 will be a big year for Art of Anarchy. Rock was never dead? just dormant? and Art of Anarchy is planning to wake it up. They?ll break all the rules and leave you wanting more Anarchy!

Nowhere did they say Scott only made the album and videos.
The press release makes it sound like a band. Not just a studio side project. It's somewhat misleading.

/jarmo
I have to agree.  Intentional or not, this press release can give the impression of an ongoing participation by Weiland.  That's certainly what I thought when I first read it, and then Weiland's comments took me by surprise.

You're reaching, Ali.
How so?

AoA - confirmed timetable (if not specific date) for album - Spring 2015
Weiland - March 31st 2015
Bumblefoot - Feb 24th 2015
GN'R - Neither the time of year, nor the specific year has been confirmed.

Which one of these is not like the other?

I have no clue what you're talking about.

3 of the albums are confirmed to come out by Spring 2015.  One doesn't even have a confirmed year.  How can you look forward to an album when you don't even know what year it will be released?

Well, apparently there is confusion.  Sure, things could change down the road.  Perhaps Scott isn't happy with the timing of the announcement.  But, at the very least, there seems to be a difference of opinion as to whether or not Scott will be involved going forward.  So, there's some confusion.
