If Ron is out of the band, is it really going to make a difference if we are informed now or later? So what is it that everyone needs to know the answer at this very second in time?  It's not going to make any difference. I guess it's human instinct to want to be the first to know everything. This is how TMZ stays in business

But why is everyone (Ron, the band, management) being intentionally vague on this?  Who are the current members of GnR?  It?s a very simple question.  You?d think there would be a very simple answer.  My take:  Ron?s contract expired (I?m assuming the members are contract employees) and he has not re-signed.  Allegedly, he?s removed all references to GnR from his social media accounts (I say allegedly because I read that somewhere and I?m too lazy to fact check it) so that gives a pretty clear indication that he?s not in the band.

It does matter because you want to know who?s on the team, regardless if they?re touring yet or not.  Saying, ?just wait to see who?s playing at the first show? sounds absurd.

Yep...

I'm a fan of this...i'm a fan of Axl...just like i'm a fan of the Yankees or of Edward Norton... I find it entertaining to know what's going on with them. if somebody who does not follow it as closely asked me who is in the band? i'd like to be able to tell them!

That's all.

Maybe that's where it's at. Figuring that one out.
Since there's no details on when people need to be back, there's no real need to make decisions at this moment?

/jarmo

So you're suggesting management doesn't know if Ron is in, or out of the band?

It's more like, it's not extremely important for the world to know who's on holidays from the office since they're not at the office.  Wink

It is important to know if you are just on a holiday, or if you're never coming back to the office.

Maybe that's where it's at. Figuring that one out.

While I don't believe the uncertainty has any impact on a new album, it can have an impact on touring.  Just hope we don't end up hearing some dispute where Ron ends up getting blamed for a delay in starting a tour for being non-committal.

I'm not suggesting anything other than for people to maybe relax a little.

Remember Robin?
Axl did the chats in December 2008 and at that point he didn't know what the deal was. Because Robin had recorded his parts and the band wasn't touring. Once they made plans, they got Dj.

I do remember the Robin scenario?and it was less than ideal.

The notion of, once the band makes plans if they need a guitarist they?ll go get one, feeds into the image that everyone (except Axl) is a replaceable widget, which makes it less of a band and more of a touring act, IMO.  I know people stridently argue against that, but it certainly feels that way.

To be fair they've had a stable line-up for quite some time now. If Ron does leave - what option do they really have? They may be in talks, hoping he'll change his mind, or we may have jumped the gun. In any case, with or without Ron, if new music comes out, Fortus, Dizzy, Pittman, Axl, Stinson will have all been on it, and they're still all in the band, so I'm not sure that's a touring act.

Oh I agree, this is the most stable lineup in the history of the band (although that kind of stat only resonates with us forum folk).  But I don't think we're jumping the gun...Ron has certainly made his feelings known (although he too could be a bit more clear in that regard).  Perhaps you're right...perhaps the parties are intentionally quiet hoping that some time away will heal any conflicts.  I just find it odd that no one can confirm who the current members are, and then counter with it doesn't matter because there's no tour.

But it also proved that Axl doesn't just kick people out. Robin left, came back and left gain. And even then Axl was gonna consider having him back when they were gonna tour.

People make their own decisions. It's not that you're gonna be in the same band for life. Some bands are like that, others are a bit more organic and evolving.
The old band lasted five years. Ever since, people have had the chance to get used to the fact that band members have joined, and then decided to move on.

What's your suggestion then? Force people to stay in bands with lifetime commitments? Bend over backwards and fulfill their every wish in order to make people stay?

Ron says he wants to focus on his solo career. So, are you saying it's ok that GN'R would be his second priority?

Edited to add: If somebody wants to stay at home with their family rather than tour, is that a problem? Would you rather "force" that person to tour and be miserable? Would you rather have a guy in a band who doesn't wanna be there, than have somebody else? All in the name of a stable line up. There's plenty of bands that do that. They stick together and can't stand each other.

Nope, not advocating for lifetime contracts or to force anyone to stay.  You?re missing my point.

My point is why is it so hard to tell us if he?s in the band?  Simple as that.  Ron?s kind of indicated he?s not, but there?s been nothing from the rest of the band or management.  A simple acknowledgement that Bumble?s out, but the door?s always open for a return to tour, would go a long way.  And it's not really hard to do.  It?s the wait until the tour to find out who?s in the band mentality that I find odd.

Why? Because they don't know at this moment? Because making an announcement saying somebody left, with nothing else isn't helping anyone?

I disagree it isn?t helping anyone.  Making an announcement brings clarity and let?s everyone move forward in their own direction.  Your way, there?s this cloud of is he/isn?t he that?s hanging over everyone.

Rip the band-aid off and move on, if that?s the case.  Management should know if he?s in the band.  I can?t really think of a scenario where they wouldn?t.

Well, until the band announces a tour or, at the very least, announces the next album...The lineup doesn't really matter does it?  They haven't done either yet, so who cares?

Well Ron made some sort of announcement. He deleted all information about GN?R on his twitter and Facebook. His profile only says "solo artist and producer" it doesn?t even said former GN?R lead guitar player. Just nothing, like it never happended.

I guess he could change his mind in the future. But what are the odds?

I mean, it's obvious he's out.  I'm sure neither party finds it particularly pressing to make an official announcement until the band becomes active.  Not to mention, Ron probably is leaving the door cracked open just in case he changes his mind when, again, GNR becomes active again whenever that may be.

I agree, it's obvious, so why not admit the obvious?  You don't wait for the season to start to learn who's on your team.  IMO, same concept applies.

I cannot speak for the band, but I would assume when the issue came up they resolved to not make an 'official' announcement until it was riding on the heals of a "good" announcement, meaning, a new album or tour.

Imagine this: So and so left the band. Thank you.

Then what? What would change? You can move on? Why not just move on and wait until there's something to say.
