I hear you. And you're right, any definitive info about Ron's departure and the next album are only known by a handful of people, who aren't saying much, if anything.  But if we're going to take guessing and assumptions out of GNR discussion in early 2015, then we might as well pack it up right now.  yes

Yeah, speculation is about all we got.

And I have never, or will ever, see the supposed capital offense it is for a few fans to speculate with each other on the internet.

Be happy people still care enough to care, I say

But what if it bums Axl out??  nervous

I'm not even kidding.  When Going Down leaked and Beta got on the horn with Manets, she told him that Axl is actually on lead vocals on the finished version of the track, and if he sees people talking about (positively or negatively) it, he might take a "fuck it" approach and not even want to put it out.

I'm not taking a firm stance on that attitude, but per Beta, Axl's productivity hinges on fan & media reactions to certain things.  Which is why I prefer to stay more on the positive side of things when talking about the next album, although certain individuals may disagree with that.

You aren't credible because of many of the stances you take, up to and including this one here.

But that was not an observation that was developed this morning.  All this morning was is just another example in a long line.

Ok, so I'm not credible and therefore I'm not gonna tell you shit. Simple.
Go find somebody more credible then. I'm not talking about the ones who read comments on Instagram and come to the conclusion that "they hate the fans".

For the rest, don't believe what these "experts" say. It doesn't requite a rocket scientist to figure out that these people hiding behind usernames and aliases aren't exactly the most credible people on the planet.

Well, I find that ridiculous.  Sorry.  I can't get onboard with that.  Is he 12 years old?

And I liked 'Going Down' a lot.  Even with Tommy on lead vocals.

But a few people say mean things on the interwebs?  OH NOES!!

Some may convince you

You never heard of artists getting annoyed at their music leaking?

I've never heard of an artist shelving a song for spite because of something "someone hiding behind an alias on the internet" said, no.

That's a good song.  I think it actually has single potential.  To scrap it because a few jackals on MYGNR made fun of it is ridiculous.

Right, it sucks and is wrong.  But...Waiting forever to release full tracks who had a myriad of hands touching them during their creation doesn't exactly help them from not leaking.  In a perfect world, these tracks would stay in Axl's proverbial air-tight vault forever.  But this is not a perfect world, and waiting years upon years to get around to putting out music probably is not a great idea in the digital age we now find ourselves in.  But yes, sucks and is wrong.

Agreed. As a songwriter you have to trust in your ability and not worry about what the fans think. The fans connected to his lyrics and he developed a huge fan base off of that. Thats a testament to his talent. You cant worry about what people are going to say. There are always going to be haters. You cant and shouldnt expect everyone to like your material.

I didn't get the impression from the original post that this was the case or issue

The fact that it leaks BEFORE it's intended to be released fucks up the whole idea of artists releasing songs when they think they should be heard.
So yes, you might shelve s song because it's already leaked and the surprise element is mostly gone.

Didn't affect the CD tracklist.  All those suckers were leaks.

Its even put out there that the tracklist was dictated by those leaks, but I never bought into that.

Leaks are unfortunate, no question.  It might also be the kick in the ass you need to get the fucking show on the road already.  One reaction to a leak is that it might be time wrap it up and put it out for real, because people seem to dig it.  Not to wait 2 and a half more years and lose any sort of momentum you might have.

When did 'Blood In The Water', 'Going Down' and that 3 and a half minute medley of as yet unheard tracks leak?  Wasn't yesterday.  Maybe get moving on it.

That didn't seem to affect the final tracklist on Chinese.  I mean, 85% of the album leaked before it came out in November 2008.

But like I said, when you wait forever and a day to get around to finishing up an album, you have to start blaming yourself when things start to slip out and leak.  I mean, if I walk around for years with my wallet hanging half way out of my ass pocket, and I keep getting pick pocketed, well, eventually you gotta start zipping that shit up.

In my opinion, they've done an excellent job over the past six years of keeping the next album underwaps.  Other than a rough demo of Going Down, has anything else leaked?  That's one of the best things the next album has going for it right now.  Fans still have no real idea of what to expect on it.

Sitting on an album certainly increases the chances of leakage. If the album was released in 2001 or 2002 there would have just been the live leaks which were thoroughly in Axl's control. Better, TWAT, Prostitute, Catcher - all these would have been new songs.

If the album came out anytime between 1999 through early 2006, the entire tracklist would have been a mystery.  Not excusing leaks because of that, just sayin'. I'm glad the same hasn't happened to the next album, but I say that assuming it will come out this year before tracks start leaking.

You are both right.

But once those suckers started leaking in early 2006, how in the holy hell is getting the album out ASAP not job fucking one?

All the more so when you see people like them.  Everything else is secondary.

That seemed to be the plan up until late that year, before that ship sailed two years into the future.  Undecided

As much as I'd love to hear new GNR music yesterday, I really hope history does not repeat itself this time and that they can make it to the finished line with minimal leaks.

Seriously, imagine going through 12 or so new GNR tracks that you've NEVER HEARD before.  How fucking insanely awesome does that notion strike you?

I actually won't think anything serious is underway unless there is a leak.

Leaks happen with people in the chain get sticky fingers.  I take no leaks to mean no serious work is being done.

Well Axl made it clear that delivering Chinese Democracy was a total nightmare because there were so many people involved in the project and so much exceptation.

Anyway leaks or no leaks, Axl did deliver the album and it is a great record which has been doing very well ever since !! Now if anyone thinks otherwise, I think they should start their own band and we'll see if they can do better...

Agreed, which is why I said "minimal leaks".  I think it would be incredibly naive to think that, barring a well-planned surprise release, tracks will not leak leading up to a release in 2015.  Happens to every big name artist nowadays, most recently, Madonna.

One more reason just to drop the sucker and utilize a blitz of promotion once it's real.

That's an odd stance.

Do you tell anyone that is critical of an athlete to put on a uniform and get out on the field?

Careful. Going by that analogy in this dojo, criticizing the quarterback and the current team manager is HIGHLY frowned upon and makes you a shitty fan of said team.
