Regardless if its a GNR show or not...

i cant believe they are having trouble selling out 2500 tickets or so....you would think with all the different bands there that each fanbase would want to be in the building

I don't disagree with that.  It is surprising.

I just don't think it reflects as what the reaction to what a GN'R show would be any more than say Rock on the Range.  Even though GN'R are headlining these events, it isn't a GN'R show only.

Well, I don't think it bodes well.

It might explain why the "US Tour" this time around is a residence in one city (where there are ticket problems), one festival (with many other supporting acts) and one random show at a small venue casino.

It might be time for us to come to grips that GNR, in its current incarnation absent anything new, is just not a draw domestically.

The current band could very well be a draw in the States.  It's just that nowadays you can only tour on the same album for 1 or 2 tour legs tops.  They've been more or less touring Chinese Democracy on and off for 13 years now.  Anyone in the States who was curious about NuGNR has already seen em, probably more than once.

Sure, things looks crazy in SA, but hell, Brett Michaels solo could probably still fill a stadium out there.  That's telling.

If he could, he would. So is he?

I know it's difficult to give credit to the band and management. I get it.
But, I know this is going to be difficult, isn't the whole idea of touring to play shows where people want to see the band? So, in that sense, isn't it a great move by management and band to have the band tour in South America and have several shows over sold (that means they sold more tickets than they should have)?

Oh no, it's just them doing "what they're supposed to". And yet here you are posting about them not selling enough tickets... When they do, you stay silent because it's just what they should do, when they don't, you're vocal about it. Win-win!  Wink

Speaking for myself... as a US fan... i think we just find it upsetting that the current state of affairs is this way for a GNR show

its not about giving credit to management for "doing what theya re supposed to do"

i dont blame them for playing South America... hell with the way they sell... they should play there forever 4 nights a week....

I never doubted for a second that the SA tour would likely be a roaring success for GNR.  I doubt they would've done a full SA tour for the 3rd time post Chinese Democracy unless they knew success in that market was a sure thing.  I'm just explaining why they're not all that successful domestically, which is really undeniable, thus the reason they are struggling to sell tickets for this event.  Without new music, and commercial presence, curiousity in this lineup is dwindling domestically.  That's not a knock at the band, it's just the way things are.

It is not a straight forward gig, its an awards show. People may not want to spend the amount of $ for something that is not a concert with full production etc. I deal with gigs 6 out of 7 nights a week and sometimes the interest is just not there.
There are plenty of other acts on the bill that could pull punters also, so anyone blaming GN'R for this are idiots if you think its down to them that an award show is not sold out,

It's not GN'R specific.... Sorry to burst your bubble. Reference this: http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/metallicas-james-hetfield-orion-fest-was-a-disaster-financially-20140130

If it was a GN'R show. It's an awards show. Not a full length gig.
GN'R sold out the LA Forum in 2011, then played several smaller venues there in 2012.

Yes, most people tend to draw bigger crowds down there then they would up here.

An arena act here can fill a stadium there.  We see that all the time.

All correct, but you know he interprets everything as a personal affront.

Is your position that they would have no problems doing a nationwide tour here domestically in 2014, but just choose not to for whatever reason?

It is surprising, not sure why, last year when Metallica headlined, the show sold out in within hours. (http://www.epiphone.com/News/Features/News/2013/Revolver-Golden-Gods-Awards-Sell-Out.aspx)

But good new for those who are still looking for tickets or to upgrade.  They have open up the VIP balcony for tickets sales now.

The Golden Gods show has no bearing whatsoever on GN'R's ability to draw on their own any more than Rock On the Range does:  which is none at all.

The shows here are a handful and not all that dissimilar from late 2012 to the Summer 2013 shows.
