The show before the cancelled tour in philly... I was there and a young fan (14) but after watching a few times the whole able on YouTube it may be one of Axl's best ever. I remember being there and beyond sold out (couldn't find standing room) Axl's voice and performance was unreal. It seems that he has an extra gear for NYC ( saw him at Hammerstein 2006, roseland 2012 and gov ball 2013).but after watching MSG 2002 he literally had compete control and was sooooooo good. Just a random topic but if any other members were there, please share your thoughts. So fucking good! I a
25 now and live in NYC can't wait for some

Yeah, thats a really good performance by Axl. Docklands too. The 02-gigs have been unfairly downrated imo.

The pukkelpop-show (and vma-performance) are amongst my highligts from this era. Some Epic buckethead-solos here. ok

My childhood friend and I had tickets to the show. We had to eat up the money for the tickets.  We couldn't go since there was a snowstorm that day.

every day i seem to enjoy more that legendary 02 tour. i have yet to discover the last gig at MSG (defenetly next on my bootleg list)
but the boston show is one of the best shows ive heard from them you can really hear what was gnr all about back in 2002.

someday we will know what really happened that december night between NY and philly that lead to a 4year hiatus when things looked so good.
the best info i found was here (a exelent read the whole thing) http://www.gnrevolution.com/viewtopic.php?id=3543

I was there!  Hearing the opening chords to 'Welcome to the Jungle' and seeing Axl walk onto the stage and look out into the crowd gave me goosebumps.

I also think that Axl's high voice from 2002 suited songs like Madagascar, Think About You and SCOM much better than the rasp. The 02 Era is very underrated, so many amazing moments from that particular tour.  peace

Give Axl credit for Msg in 2002.  He wasn't feeling well at all and still pulled off a great performance.

« Reply #11 on: December 30, 2013, 10:16:22 AM »

I was there, don't forget there was a huge snow storm happening that shut down the tri state area.

I was there also for 2 Hammerstein shows years later. I thought the Hammerstein shows were better "performances" than that msg show.

That msg show was a better "concert" because you gotta factor in the storm, the crowd was absolutkey electric, and the whole "comeback world tour" vibe. I remember being so f'n excited to go see GnR after all those years.

Wish I could have been there.  Sadly, I had tickets to the following night (and still no clear idea about what happened there).

That was a great show, and that tour is very under rated and usually forgotten about because it was so brief.  I was able to see them in NYC and also in Albany the week before and both are still among my favorite GNR shows.  In 2002 we were coming off a near decade of relative silence, so to say I was overwhelmed to be a few feet from the stage in Albany is an understatement.  That night in MSG was amazing though, with the exception of the Hammerstein shows I dont think I ever saw such an enthusiastic crowd.

I wasn't there (but was there for Roseland - Handsome Dick is one of the best openers I have ever seen for GNR) but anyhow, I am looking for a shirt from the 02 MSG show; http://www.troccolitm.com/ShirtMSG.html?1271628605863

If ya happen to have one and would like to sell it let me know. Link and images thanks to Troccoli.

Please don't remind me.lol Smiley I got into an argument with my manager at that time. We were supposed to leave early that day for an employee Christmas party at 4. I asked my manager if I can skip the party and leave early for the concert. She said no. I was so ticked off at her. When I got home, my childhood friend said he was bailing out on me due to the weather. He said that if I were able to sell his ticket, I would keep the money.  I tried to get to the bus stop, but couldn't.

I had primo tickets for 12.9.02 in Dallas and was victimized by the cancelation. I was so bummed. At least I got my money back from Ticketmaster, which was a surprise considering what total assholes they are in ripping off customers with outrageous fees and a buying process that can only be described as opaque.

I had 2nd row tickets for the South Carolina show while I was living in North Carolina.  I was very upset when the show was cancelled at the time.  At the time I had kept those tickets but unfortunately they got lost along the way.

I remember calling the venue and pleading for information from them because the tour still was not 'officially' cancelled..  I was in college and that show was right in the middle of finals.  I had 2 finals the day after.  Finally the girl at the box office said "look, I can't tell you what is going on, but I can tell you that the band was supposed to check into their hotel today and they never showed up".  I thanked her and I avoided that 6 hour drive for nothing.
