Wow - love the parts about Buckethead. Apparently was more nervous to meet Freese's dad (who was a music director of Disneyland) than he was to try out for Gn'R. Classic. Thanks for posting this.

It covered a lot of ground, it's a shame he and Axl haven't talked in over a decade, but I doubt it has to do with a recording session with Slash, it's pretty normal for musicians to be in and out of lives even if they get to be close at the time - it's an "out of sight, out of mind" thing.

That was a terrific interview. I originally only wanted to hear the parts about GNR, but I ended up listening to the whole thing. I have a respect for session musicians that I have never had before. Josh is a great storyteller and is real likeable.
Not sure if anyone noticed but there is a podcast interview with Fred Coury that is episode 33 (Freese is 34) and he talks about subbing for Adler when he broke his hand. I am listening to the podcast and will let you know when he starts talking about that experience.
Coury starts talking about the GNR experience a little after 28:30

Josh is a fantastic drummer and was a bit bummed his playing wasn't on the album at all.
Glad we got to hear him on "Oh My God" and his drumming on the Big Daddy "SCOM" is boss. Would love to hear the entire performance of that song, as well as the rest of the "AFD" tracks he played on.

I listened and I can't say anything bad about Josh at all. Dude seemed to really enjoy being in GN'R and thought Axl was a top guy. He just admitted it was frustrating not getting anything released for 2 years which is fair enough to be fair. Never knew that Robin was someone who initially auditioned him, great little tidbit of info.

I liked how Josh decided to play in GNR despite everyone giving him shit about it. GNR were not considered "cool" in 1997, as the world was consumed by a lot of shit 90's alternative bands that nobody remembers in 2013. Very punk rock of Josh to say fuck it and play with the band anyway. Vandals are awesome too, check them out if you haven't yet.

Same reasoning Tommy used (as his friends and former bandmates rolled eyes on joining Guns N' Roses).
Goes to show! In fact, it was then the most "punk" thing you could do. I love how they proved everyone wrong. Teh album is GREAT, the tours have been awesome.
Great interview with Josh!
Brain is my favorite GNR drummer in the history of the band, but Freese is so amazing (APC etc.) and "Oh My God" is still the black sheep masterpiece of GNR. Kinda like Motorhead's "Killed by Death". An iconic song for the band, it's out there, but not featured on any full length pivotal album by the band.

His drumming is on there in spirit.
I doubt we'll hear those tapes. I have a feeling the lawsuit Slash and Duff filed against Axl buried those tapes from being released for a long time. It doesn't mean he can't leak them though! The band members did have copies, and some of those band members have kids.
After the "Sorry" video was leaked? Anything's possible.

I liked how Paul Westerberg (of all people), told him he should do it.
Throw in Tommy and it is quite an incestuous group.
