I am so fucking excited to pick this up tomorrow. I am a bit bummed about the vocals on NR. Anyone who has seen the show already, is that Axl's worse performance of the show?

Saw the video.  I think it was imperfect, obviously, but fine.  Since you're asking something that's completely subjective, you can't really get a definitive answer.

Here Today...

Blu-ray delivered today earlier than expected.  Smiley

Watching the 2D version and it looks and sounds great! I don't have a 3D TV so this gives me something to look forward to in future.

Very happy to have something new in my GN'R collection.

It's too bad Don't Let It Bring You Down isn't included on this offering. I love the way Axl sang this song, especially towards the end of the residency. I guess this was due to licensing. It also appears Axl's piano solo was cut. Probably the same reason? Or did he not play the usual Elton John medley that night.

One thing that bothered me about the show on AXS, and I am sure it is on the DVD, is the audience backfill at completely the wrong times. In the vid on AXS the crowd is supposedly going crazy during This I Love when in fact everyone is standing there and trying to listen to the words. I remember that the Joint went quiet as Axl sings this song. But this is a common problem that appeared on the Live Era CD also, and it is not unique to Guns. But it is annoying because it takes away the authenticity of the show. Other than that, I don't have big complaints about the AXS show except that Rocket Queen and Sorry were deleted. And there are obvious places where the edit cut can be heard. But in general it was a great show and I really liked the close ups when you can see Axl's eyes because that tells everything. They really had a lot of camera angles, I don't remember them all. Great production overall and I hope I get my DVD tomorrow as promised!

Who are these morons leaving comments. The quality of these performances are fantastic... I must be crazy as I honestly don't think the old lineup ever sounded this good. Is it just fashionable to diss Axl??

It?s cool to see an official release, and I?m glad people are enjoying it., but just like you can?t comprehend people not thinking the performance was fantastic, a lot of people can?t comprehend the fact that you do.

To my ears, Axl does not sound good. If I?m a casual fan who hasn?t followed GN?R in years and this is the first thing I hear in a while, Axl?s voice is hardly recognizable.
He?s singing songs I remember, but singing them very differently from the records, and I don?t even recognize anyone else up on that stage.

I?m not a hater. I?m not a moron. I?m not jealous.
I just call things as I see them, and my opinion differs greatly from yours.

I know you didn?t specifically call me a moron(at least not yet!) because I didn?t leave any comments on youtube.
Just pointing out that it?s not difficult to understand how some people were impressed by this performance, and others were not.

I've heard the statement that Axl's voice is hardly recognizable before, and I find it as absurd then as I do know.

If that were true, or if that were a very widely held opinion, then what AEG is talking about here in regards to the second residency would not have happened. The exact opposite would've happened.

"I was in my boss's office and we thought we were getting wrong numbers because they were so high," says Reynolds. "The business right now for Guns n' Roses is really, really good? And that's not because I did a great job marketing the show. It's because the word of mouth was so positive for the last time they played."

If your ears truly cannot differentiate the sound of Axl?s voice today and Axl?s voice from yesteryear, I?m not sure there?s a way that I can really explain it to you.
I will say that it?s pretty safe to say that it IS a widely held opinion that his voice has drastically changed.
You can read these opinions on any recent comment board.

The only people I hear deny it are on this forum.
Trust me, I wish I heard what you?re hearing.

Are some people over the top negative about it? Of course, but just because you don?t agree with some people?s assessment doesn?t make it absurd.

If someone says they prefer his voice today as opposed to the past, I wouldn?t share that opinion, but I?d certainly respect and understand it.
I cannot imagine listening to a recording from ?93 and then a recording from ?12 and not being able to tell you without a doubt which is which.

I would say that Axl?s voice has changed pretty dramatically by any standard, but it?s not as though this is uncommon for singers as they age.
I wouldn?t expect it to affect the success of a Las Vegas residency. Don?t think it?s related and certainly wouldn?t say it validates your poistion.

It?s still great entertainment, especially in contrast to other live acts today. They deserve all the success they?ve had in Vegas.

You didn't understand what I wrote at all.

I agree that Axl's vocal tone is different than what it was in 1992.  Never denied that.

The point is to say it is unrecognizable, which you said, is absurd.

It's absurd because if that were the case, word of mouth would be affected in a negative way.  As it stands now, you have someone from AEG saying that they were positively surprised by the sales of the most recent residency and he believes it was due to positive word of mouth.  It is related and it does validate my position when you're talking about word of mouth.

Enough is enough. I'm sorry but you're not gonna ruin yet another thread with the same fucking complaints. It's not gonna happen.
If there's a topic that's destined for the Dead Horse section, it's the "he doesn't sound the same" one.

Nice try to steer the discussion in that direction though.

For those who are easily offended, sorry but there's some things which ain't gonna happen here. This is one of those. The fact that this thing is finally out is great, and this thread isn't gonna be turned into yet another thread about the things a small group of people don't like about it. Sorry!

Yup. Don't get me wrong, there's also positives that I can see from what I?ve watched online.
Just the mere fact I was able to purchase a new GN?R release and will have a hard copy in my hands if Best Buy ever ships it out is a victory.
