They had a little snippet on sixx sense last night about Axl's kimmel interview. As usual they have their condecending attitude and kind of hinted that Axl did it cause the shows weren't selling well blah blah blah. Then Nikki "the rockstar "which he or one of his co- hosts must remind everyone of at least once a show, said Motley went in and sold the place out right away in a kinda arrogant way, like Motley Crue is a bigger draw or something. They always pick up on little random facts about gnr from wherever "usually negative"and present them as fact, like the slow ticket sale shit, like why not say something positive about the shows? They do it for other bands, and even go on about how great the Lady Gaga tour with The Darkness opening for her is.Like gimme a break. He did say he wanted the gnr res to do well but didn't sound like he meant it.I think if anyone else here listens to the show once in a while you would know what I mean.

Motley I guess technically did sell out the shows. However, it wasn't until the day of the shows, and most likely due to the Hard Rock handing tickets out. So yeah, Nikki's full of it.

Yeah I figured he was full of shit about selling out right away.He said Motley are thinking about doing another residency and alot of other bands are looking into it as well so he hopes Gnr's isn't a failure so the other bands aren't detered. That wasn't exactly how he said it but pretty much.Basically getting something negative in while pretending to be supportive is the way I took it.

I thought he was meant to be DJ's pal... Oh well fuck him. Guns N'Roses are a much bigger in terms of 'world' popularity. Not even worth discussing.

ALSO, if I remember correctly, I read some article with the VP of the Hard Rock saying that the MISTAKE they made with Motley, was they did too many shows close together. Saying they didn't give enough time for the Vegas tourist population to "reset" so to speak. With Gn'R they spread the shows out more, allowing for the tourist turnover. (It's actually tough for a band to sell out Vegas. There's so many entertainment options here, every day of the week, that the actual local population has become kind of "desensitized" to big names being here. As opposed to back where i grew up, a major bland playing, EVERYONE went, just because big bands coming through were rare.)
The Hard Rock is definitely relying on out of towners for these shows. I'll be at every one, but I doubt there's many other locals that can say the same. (maybe a handful?) The other ones may hit one or two. BUT, if the tourist crowd is what their going for, and hell, a residency in general, this is the place to do it! I'm sure every show will be packed, I just hope I get to the rail so I don't have to hear the crowd. I was at one of the Motley shows, (loved it) but remember standing there looking around at all the people, and realizing they really could care less about the band, and probably didn't know a thing about them, minus a few of their hits.
BTW, I'll try take pics of the Street Renaming thing on Monday, hopefully I can get out work early.

I think Nikki's kind of biased when it comes to Motley Crue, and there's still some old fashioned rivalry between both bands, but just the fact DJ's in the band, he wants them to do well.

I don't know that GNR are worried about selling out the shows. I mean how much money does it pay to do a Vegas show? Seems to me they make way more money just doing a regular show. I don't think Vegas is about the money. GNR is such a big production, wouldn't surprise me if this actually going to end up costing them money even if they sell out all the shows.

They won't lose any money. They're guaranteed to get paid. I don't have the exact article in front of me, but Paul Davis, the VP of entertainment for the Hard Rock, was talking about the money the band gets. He wouldn't go into exact dollar figures, but he was basically saying they're paying Gn'R the same amount they'd make off 12 regular arena shows. Taking in to consideration that there's no transportation costs in between shows, no set up and tear down each night, ect. So basically, Gn'R get their money no matter if there's 400 people there, or 4000. If anyone were to lose money on a show, it'd be the promoter.

It's cool the Hard Rock's rolling out the red carpet for them, I'm sure they're also counting the perks the casino's giving them into it. The city enjoys the attention a band like GNR is giving them, because they're expecting people from other countries as well as SoCal coming to Vegas.
They might struggle with selling out a couple of shows, but you can't beat the price compared to the other shows you'd have to be paying a lot of money to go see. I also think the later Axl goes on, the longer the shows will go - as long as the throat's in great shape. He knows he could get away with going on as late as 2AM, and no one's going to bitch, no bar being closed down, no job to go to the next day unless it's a Vegas local seeing the show.
I wouldn't be surprised if they clock in one night at 4 hours.

Also, it's not like it's a stand alone arena. The Hard Rock will make money from all the people brought into the place. Hotel rooms, restaurants, bars, and most importantly, the reason this city exists...gambling. Hell, they could probably pay Gn'R their cut, have the shows for free, and still come out ahead.
