Awesome to see GN'R do this show. Great cause.

Axl did the show with a strep throat.

I don't know how he does it!

/jarmo

He didn't practice, and as a result his voice was shot.

See? I can throw out random ideas too.

Except that mine is likely closer to the truth.

I am just now reading this thread and, I am curious to know how is that whatever you are saying is closer to the truth Huh Huh Huh Who are you? Were you at the show? Have you gotten any real information from GNR camp? The answer is NO, so please keep your random ideas to yourself. An opinion or a real constructive criticism is one thing but please don't post something as it is a fact because you are really far from the truth. Also, if you are in this board just to talk shit, maybe you should look for another one where you can post what in your mind is the "truth".

When Jarmo posts any information regarding GNR, he is posting the "truth".

Beta

I wasn't posting it as truth.

I was showing that anyone can throw out random thoughts that can be passed off as truth.

I don't believe that Axl had a strep throat.

I think that he was not prepared for the show.

Why do I say this? Because it was the same at Rock in Rio 2011 - he clearly had not prepared and it was evident in his voice. That is why I feel I am 'more likely closer to the truth'.

I hope you don't take this to heart - I just feel that Axl is not preparing himself as well as he can.

And it hurts me as a fan because I want him to be the best he can be.

I can't even begin to fathom how asinine this is.  How can you possibly dispute that he was sick?  You have no basis to say that isn't true.  That was the whole point of Beta's post.  You have no clue, you're just disregarding this information from someone who would know a hell of a lot better than any of us simply because it doesn't fit into your narrative that if Axl doesn't sound good, it's because of a lack of preparation.

Ali

Ok then, but how can you say that he was sick?

Just because you have a lot of people saying the same thing doesn't make it true.

I merely suggested he hadn't prepared. Who is more likely to lie, someone who wants to defend someone close to them - or a fan who wants one of his idols to be at his best?

I'm not calling Beta a liar, I'm just saying that if I was her and Axl performed poorly, then I'd try and defend him as best I could.

I'm not saying that he was.  I'm admitting that it's entirely possible that he was and that I am in no position to refute that claim because I have no evidence to the contrary.  Unlike you, I'm not dismissing it because it doesn't fit in with the narrative I've created of why Axl may sound mediocre at a particular show.  There are a variety of reasons, from lack of preparation to legitimate illness.

You're not in a position to tell the "truth" because you don't know anything at all about the facts about this particular situation.

You have no basis for ascertaining the likelihood or lack thereof of Axl being sick anyway.  It's not like you gave him a culture test for the presence of streptococca bacteria.

Beta

Just wondering Beta.... It must also be incredibly difficult to to go from singing in front of thousands of fans, with some pretty loud assed music, to toning down songs like "Jungle", "Better" and "Paradise City", and trying to sing them in a more subdued voice. And that's no knock on Axl. I thought the show was great. A guy I work with who's always been one of the anti-GnR guys caught it, and was also pretty impressed by the new lineup after the benefit. I just think what Axl tried to pull off is hard as hell (Just for fun I tried it with Better today...and I can sing..and that shit just wasn't happening...lol), and I think he did pretty damned good.

And as for the guys running down Axl? I've been critical before, I fully admit it. As a fan, it happens from time to time. But unless you've picked up a microphone, done some recording, and played live shows, and actually know what the hell you're talking about, keep the shit talking to yourself. What Axl does, time and time again, ain't easy gang. It's easy to sit in an armchair and run him down for his voice on a difficult night for him. He's also human....just so happens he's way more awesome than you'll ever hope to be....like....ever......I mean ever....

You got Fernando, Beta, and Ron all saying he had strep throat.  Band mates, managers these people actually have something to do with the band.  When they say he's sick.... He's sick.  Can't understand the mentality some have here to draw up their own conclusions and facts.

WTTJ and Better coulda/shoulda been skipped for unplugged for better reviews. Replace with TIL or something.

It's not the band or Axl, it's the songs. You need electricity/effects to do those songs justice.

You're crazy was amazing in comparsion. Axl totally nailed it and really shines at it.

You have no basis for ascertaining the likelihood or lack thereof of Axl being sick anyway.  It's not like you gave him a culture test for the presence of streptococca bacteria.

Ali

But under that I wrote: ''See? I can throw out random ideas too.''

Did you give him a culture test?

Which you then followed with "Except that mine is likely closer to the truth".  That was based on nothing but your own suspicions and the desire to make this situation fit in with your narrative.  You have nothing, nothing at all remotely rooted in fact to say that your theory is likely closer to the truth.  Unlike Jarmo, who clearly heard from someone in the GN'R management team.

No, I didn't test him.  Like I said, I'm not sure he was sick.  But, I'm not so arrogant to think that I have some basis to refute that as the truth and say something as arrogant as "Except that mine is likely closer to the truth".

Ali

When did I dismiss it? I just felt it unlikely given the circumstances.

In response to Jarmo's statement that Axl was sick you said, "He didn't practice, and as a result his voice was shot."  How was that not dismissing what Jarmo said?

GN'R is on. Lights out. Crazy opens at 8:55

UTLH next

He opened the song singing in his lower register.

WTTJ next. No lyrical flubs tonight Smiley

Honestly, he seems more focuses tonight

Better next

He seemed much more comfortable this time around with that tune.

SCOM next

It sounds like his voice is resonating a little more in his chest tonight. It sounds more full tonight on this song.

Patience

....

Sorry for mass updates Smiley

Ali

Ali thanks so much for the updates, they were much appreciated!!!  I would however not encourage the haters by suggesting Axl's voice was not as full on Saturday night and that he flubbed the lyrics.  "The truth" is he did a kick ass set and sang in a different style that most aren't accustomed to hearing these songs acoustically.  Also people need to get over the lyric thing at the beginning of Jungle.  We have seen Axl perform hundreds and hundreds of times and I don't think anyone is better than Axl at reciting correct lyrics.  I know your're as loyal a fan as any Ali, I just don't want people getting the wrong idea with the way you phrased it! ok
