« on: May 21, 2012, 03:37:45 PM »

Just sharing an email I've received from Newcastle Arena today:

"Important Event Timing Information: Guns N Roses

Wednesday 23rd May 2012

Based on previous Guns N Roses performances at the Metro Radio Arena and recent performances last weekend at Nottingham and Liverpool Arenas, we would like to inform our patrons that it is highly likely that Guns N Roses will not take to the stage until much later than anticipated.

The original event running times were as follows?

Doors Open: 6.30pm

Doors To Seats: 7.00pm

TBC: 7.30pm - 8.15pm

Thin Lizzy: 8.15pm - 9.00pm

Interval: 30 Minutes

Guns N Roses: 9.30pm

*Subject to likely change

However we would anticipate the main act Guns N Roses may not take to the stage until around 11.00pm.

Based on this probability we would like to advise patrons to make suitable arrangements to ensure a safe journey home.

*Please note all timings are controlled by the promoter / artist not the Metro Radio Arena."

That doesn't make much sense. Surely there would be an interval between the first two bands as well? Still, at least they are giving people fair warning.

- Intro was 00.30...
- Show END 03.30 am
- In my house 06.30 am

Guns N' Roses Strong Since 1999!

First band? This is news to me! Was their a third band in Liverpool and Nottingham???

I'm heading there tomorrow, and that's good to know, but personally I'll be there until the next morning if that's what it takes for GNR to hit the stage - I left early in Dublin because I'd a long journey back home to where I was staying that involved 2 methods of public transport. This time, I don't need any, so I'm sorted.

Of course, knowing the Metro Arena as I do, it might put pressure on the car park in terms of the number of people bringing their cars as a result - and a lot of people travelling from Durham, Sunderland, Northumberland and further afield will have their hands full and a long journey getting home.

I'd imagine (just a personal opinion mind) if the promoter had said "refunds for those who find this time unacceptable" a good 20% of the audience might have taken the offer because of the journey ahead

This is nothing new really, these emails were being sent out for some shows in 2006 as well. The fact is, is that GN'R are a band that's always gone on later than other bands, which is in my view is a good thing.

It's just a way for the promoters to cover their backs early in case of any complaints etc.

I personally have never left a GN'R show ever, would not ever even consider it to be honest.  Cool

I wish the Black Spiders were playing the Birmingham show instead of the Xcerts. Black Spiders kick some serious ass.

The fact is, is that GN'R are a band that's always gone on later than other bands, which is in my view is a good thing.

I don't understand this at all. Is there one reason it's good? The cons are:
1) it causes people serious transport problems - a taxi instead of a train is v expensive
2) people have to leave early because of work commitments - not everyone can just take the following day off
3) gives more time for people to get drunk - NO other arena bands seem to have the amount of booing and stage throwing that GnR seem to suffer
4) all the negative reviews focus on the stage times

I'd love to hear any good reasons!

They tweeted a few days ago saying that it turns out there is only one support for GnR (obviously Thin Lizzy) and that means they aren't on the tour. No idea why this is (got the impression they didn't know either)... I guess there must have been some miscommunication somewhere. Shame I was looking forward to seeing them again!

Well me and Bumblebuzz have just had a walk around town. Might go down to the arena in a while to see what's happening, I'm wearing my las Vegas 2006 shirt, with blue writing on. And Bumblebuzz is wearing his UYI angel, with red writing on the front. If you see us, say hi and have a chat, would be nice to meet you guys.
