For the record, I like Green Day but, comparing them to Judas Preist is ridiculous...

Agreed, but topic is about GN'R, not anyone else

Judas Priest vs Green Day is a random topic for another day

GUNS N' ROSES: Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame Plaque Unveiled - Apr. 4, 2012

Bronze plaques in the ground honoring the newest class of Rock And Roll Hall Fame inductees were unveiled earlier today (Wednesday, April 4) in front of Public Hall in Cleveland, Ohio.

Each of the 17 plaques reportedly cost around $5,000 to make.

A construction team member told NewsNet5.com only 14 are in the ground, the other three were coming Wednesday morning.

"They came in on Saturday and we moved heaven and earth to get them in the ground on time," said one worker.

I'm sure there were a lot of Elton John fans in 1994 saying "Why the fuck is he inducting Elton?" or "Guns N Roses sounds nothing like Elton"-it worked out fine-Axl did a great job.
If someone listened to "November Rain" and/or "Estranged" that might not be so surprised.  Furthermore, you have Axl and Elton doing a duet at the Freddie Mercury Tribute Show and Elton John sitting in on piano on "November Rain" at the 1992 VMAs.  So, some may not have been aware of it, but there was some precedent there.  At this point, I'm struggling to see any connection or shared history between Green Day and GN'R.

What history does Chris Rock have with the Chili Peppers, or Chuck D have with the Beastie Boys? (and you have to do better than they are both Rap groups).

Chris Rock is friends with the Peppers and directed one of their music videos. Chuck D and Public Enemy opened for the Beasties back in the 80's.

CKY and Mix Master Mike iopened for Guns-that means they should induct them?

No one is suggesting that. I see no GN'R influence in Green Day, nor have I heard of any previous admiration expressed between the two bands, nor have they worked together in any capacity. It's about context. Without any explanation for why Green Day was picked and accepted this task, I see no context for this as of now.

Ali

It's not on their any more, but a couple of years ago Susan McKagan posted a photo of Duff with Green Day at a wedding. I'm not sure whose it was, but I think it might have been Mike Dirnt's.
When Slash and Duff took over a radio show they "appalled" people by playing a Green Day song, which they thought was great.

On Green Day's end, they evidently like Guns enough to have borrowed a bassline for a section of one of their songs, and have spoke positively of Guns in a couple of interviews (though admittedly not as often as they have spoke of The Clash and The Replacements).

Not sure about the rest of Guns, but it wouldn't surprise me if at least Axl is a fan. He likes a lot of stuff people seem to assume he wouldn't (or shouldn't).

Thanks for clearing that up, AxlReznor-people should calm down before questioning why they are presenting-should Guns and Green Day put out a press release tomorrow to give reasons why it's Green Day? Unreal.

OMG!  I think he is just saying anything now because this is the most attention he has gotten in forever.  It is going to be a sad day for him after HOF blows over and he is back to no one being interested in his music or what he has to say.  I personally cannot wait for this to just be over and done with.

I wish Steven had a someone in charge of PR that would keep him from saying these comments.  There will be no reunion at the HOF anyway, but it could keep things less akward.

I obviously haven't read this whole thread since it's huge, but in my opinion if Izzy isn't going to show up, they should have all the original members up there and then bring along DJ to play Izzy's parts then Slash and DJ will be rocking out together and then I'm sure that would quite a lot of the haters and also show that Gun's is going to move forward with the new band after. Plus it would be Izzy's fault for not being there so it's not like he could get mad.

I'm having visions of the Van Halen induction. Paul Schaefer's band members standing in for absent inductees.  nervous
