Yes anyone from Nirvana, Dave Grohl is more of a music icon than anyone in Green Day or Green Day as a whole.  Not to mention, they ALL know each other...  And BTW, Green Day hit it big in 1994...  Not far off from 92...  The stupid crap about Nirvana is a joke... It was over not long after that stupid Courtney, Kurt, and Axl incident.  McKagan and Cobain were sitting together on the same plane on a flight back to Seattle before Cobain died.  Grohl played on Slash's record...  Krist and Duff have played live together recently... etc...

I'm not even fighting for Grohl to do it...  I'm just saying he would be a better choice (as an example).  I just think Green Day blows and are a completely over-rated band and that if it weren't for the college frat boys they wouldn't be anywhere.  Pick another band or person then Metallica, NIN, Rage Against the Machine, etc.  Keep it interesting...  This just reeks of standard industry practice, like the Grammy's.

I will say this, I am actually excited about the prospect of the HOF jam now if Green Day is on board.  Those of us who don't live in a fantasy world realized a decade ago that GNR wasn't going to play, this makes it pretty interesting now.

The whole idea that a band that broke up in their early 30's and then played together again for the first time  with no rehearsal in their early 50's was actually going to be a good thing is something I never really got on board with in the first place.

Metallica would make sense, as they are a peer of the band and actually have something in common with them.  Lars would have given a great speech.

Think about this....all the other inductors were announced awhile ago. Ya think that might be a sign that the HOF was having a rough time getting someone to say yes? They asked Green Day (a Rolling Stone magazine favorite, which is the powers that be behind the HOF) and they said yes. Say what you will about Green Day's music, they are fairly well spoken and should give a cool speech.

I'm sure Green Day will give a decent speech ; it's not hard to talk up a band who is immensely successful. But really? Green Day was good in the 90's and that's it. I would have rather seen Dave and Krist ( one who writes with Duff and the other who has recorded with Slash ), Metallica ( peers ), Jimmy Fallon ( goes with the Chris Rock theme ), Avenged Sevenfold.... the list goes on. Maybe the HOF thinks that if Green Day plays ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dh7g9s0_pvU ) the sheer horrendous quality of it will force Axl and Co to play hahah.

That would be one of the biggest disasters possible. A 3 piece punk rock band...playing a 5 piece hard rock song? Beyond that, all the solo's would be cut and the vocals would be WAY off.

Wouldn't mind Linkin Park. But not Nickelback or Creed.
The difference? Green Day are without a doubt one of the greatest bands on the planet right now. Just see them live... one of the few bands that can hold a candle to GN'R in an arena setting. There's absolutely no question about it at all. Nickelback and Creed are shit.

My prediction is that Izzy is the only one that doesn't show.  I really believe Axl is VERY in to this...  It's just my personal opinion...  He will keep everyone guessing because he's somewhat of a private person but I really believe he will show up.  The basis of my opinion is that he's inducted Elton John and this past year Axl has worked VERY VERY hard on his tour and it has really paid off.  

And yes, I think that they all could pull off a few songs from Appetite without a problem.  I've witnessed the "unprepared" version of Guns (without Axl) warm up and they pulled it together on the first take this past September in New York.  Slash, Duff, Gilby, and Matt with some other people on vocals and it all sounded excellent.
