The band lineup was inducted because 25+ years ago they released an album that arguably changed the music scene.  The lineup that put that album together should be the lineup that gets inducted.  No disrespect to any current and former members of the band, they were all part of the legacy.  So let's move along...

EXACTLY!! Well said.

While that is partially correct, let's not forget about the Illusion albums and the impact they had on the music scene... There's a lot of people of the general public who don't even pay attention to Appetite and got into Guns because of Don't Cry, November Rain or Estranged!

This is how it goes. Ask your friends about Appetite, they may or may not remember it. Or they might say they do, Illusions did it for everyone.

EDIT:

Just watching YCBM, Terminator 2 did this also.

Better yet, ask them who sings SCOM and YCBM.

It probably SHOULD BE Michael Monroe of Hanoi Rocks. He was a huge inspiration for both Axl and Slash, and remains on good terms with them. I think he opened for GN'R last year.

Dave is not a fan of Axl, don't see that happening.

it has to be a real Rock icon...older than the guys...

like McCartney, Mick Jagger, Robert Plant, Keith Richards, Bono, Brian May, David Bowie....

Someone who had some kind of connection with the band should induct them.

Brian May would be a good fit. Has some history with different lineups. Undecided

I'd guess Steven Tyler would induct them.

Steven Tyler & Joe Perry inducted Led Zeppelin years ago. I'm not sure if an artist (or group of artists) can officially induct more than one artist...but perhaps.

You can induct more than once. Eddie Vedder has inducted The Ramones and also Neil Young I believe.

Dave Grohl?? They should get the Eagles of Death Metal to induct them!!  haha just kidding.  Are they even a band anymore??  anyway, I always like seeing a band that was influenced by the inductee do the inducting.  So I would like to see a younger band speak about how they were influenced by "Appetite", "UYI" etc...  I think Avenged Sevenfold should do it.  They are the  biggest/most successful band that GNR has  influenced, and are on top of the hard rock world right now...They have also opened for GNR in 2006 and played with and recorded with Slash.

Alice Cooper would be a good choice to induct them, or possibly Nikki Sixx.

Please not Nikki Sixx. He'll spend half the induction speech talking about how great Motley is.

I agree that Alice is very good choice.  I also like seeing artists that were influenced by the inductee delivering the speech, but in GN'R's case, I can't think of anyone worthy of giving them this honor.
