Are they selling CD at USA gigs?

Just curious if they are seling Chinese Democracy at the gigs?? They did in Europe last year. I thought we might see it pop back in to the Billboard 200 again. The tour and interview etc must be helping shift a few extra copies... I'm very suprised the NYC gig did not sell out. Maddison Square Garden normally goes in a matter of hours!

Anyone know what sort of sales Chinese has done to date??

I doubt the tour and interview are going to help any more than Best Buy's decision to start selling it for $1.99.  Initially, that promotion enabled the album to sell an additional 3,200 copies, which is how it appeared back on the Billboard 200 at position #198.  But I think that's kind of run its course, even though Best Buy is still offering them at that price (at my local store anyway).

At this point, we're 3 years removed from the album's release, and the singles have dried up.  It's highly unlikely that any tour or promotion is going to sell a significant number of copies.

I was just reading that it had sold 622,000 copies in the U.S., as of April 2011.  The worldwide totals are around 4 million I believe.

It would have been smart to do a re-release with the intended artwork to coincide with the tour.  Is it the label thats holding them back at this point?

Nope. And I think it's ridiculous that no one in the US can even buy Chinese Democracy if they want to.

I had a buddy who's going with me to Detroit on December 1st ask me where to buy it because he wanted to listen to it prior. I had to tell him "you can't" which is very frustrating.

Not that I've seen for months. I have to travel to 2 Best Buy stores every day as part of my job and there hasn't been one copy of Chinese at any of them (on CD or vinyl) since at least August. Both versions have also been removed from Best Buy's website. Is that not the case around you?

Did not see any in Orlando, though was not hunting it down either.

They should re-vamp the official website and sell it as a digital download.

It's possible they sold out of them when it dropped to $1.99 but at least in my area, it went from large amounts still available to none at all within days.

Don't get me wrong. I really wish it were available to purchase in the US.

My local Best Buy still has a few copies.  My guess is that they aren't willing to purchase any more copies of the album since it sold poorly compared to the money they paid for it.  According to the link I posted above, Best Buy paid $14,000,000 for 1.6 million copies of Chinese Democracy, and they didn't even sell half of them.  So I doubt Best Buy is going to re-invest in something that didn't even make its money back, let alone turn a significant profit.

Well it's good news that it's at least able to be purchased in the US.

I have Amazon Prime so I may order a copy and have it shipped to his house since he lives on the other side of the state.

I was just concerned with casual fans (like my buddy) who can't find one for themselves. If I wasn't about 20 copies in myself, I'd buy one of those cases and give them out as xmas gifts (again). But I assume the band won't see any more money if I were to do that anyways.

You can go to some independent record stores and find it (import I assume).
