Is he referring to Jimmy Gnecco lead singer of the band "Ours"?

Interview // Duff McKagan

October 31, 2011

With no Guns N? Roses reunion in sight, Velvet Revolver, the supergroup Duff formed with former Guns Slash and Matt Sorum, have been slow to replace singer Scott Weiland who departed in 2009 to rejoin Stone Temple Pilots.

Duff indicates the search may finally be over: ?I think we may be looking at somebody in December, which is fun to think about. I believe in my heart of hearts it?ll happen.?

I totally read the title of this thread to mean they had quit trying to look. That Jimmy guy was OK but I can't imagine how they turn down Corey Taylor and then take him.

I changed it a little, maybe that helps. Smiley

And I agree.  How can they pass on Corey Taylor and go with this guy?

Of course this is a rumor, but interesting...

Jimmy Gnecco of OURS joins VELVET REVOLVER

October 30, 2011

A friend of mine saw Jimmy Gnecco last night and confirmed this to her.

This is kind of shocking for me and other Ours fans actually, to actually believe given how much we want Jimmy do his own music, or at least collaborations with artists that share some things in common with Ours (like Neverending White Lights for example, who Jimmy has worked with on both of their albums).

But Velvet Revolver? I guess Slash and Jimmy have known (or been friends) with one-another for quite awhile. And I also have heard they have wanted to have Jimmy sing for them for many years, but every time they asked he said no. A few months ago Jimmy's band and VR ended up performing at this benefit called Road Recovery. VR asked Jimmy to sing with them and it led to them talking more and Slash and Duff McKagan were quoted as being interested in writing new music with a singer they performed with at Road Recovery.

Another take on this interview:

DUFF MCKAGAN Says VELVET REVOLVER Will Audition New Singer In December - Nov. 4, 2011

During a brand new interview with the Too Famous To Get Fully Dressed blog, Duff McKagan's (VELVET REVOLVER, GUNS N' ROSES, DUFF MCKAGAN'S LOADED) was asked about how the search for a new VELVET REVOLVER lead singer is going more than three years since the band parted ways with Scott Weiland. "I think we may be looking at somebody in December, which is fun to think about," he said. "I believe in my heart of hearts it'll happen."

Duff told OC Weekly, last month that he "played in New York [in Setember as part of the Road Recovery benefit concert] and Matt Sorum [VELVET REVOLVER/ex-GUNS N' ROSES drummer] was there. There was a singer there [possibly referring to Jimmy Gnecco of OURS. ? Ed.] we might write some songs with."

He continued, "None of us have really tried [to find anyone] in the last few years. We've all been busy with other things.

"I think once that whole thing went down with Scott, we thought we'd find a guy right away. Once a few months went by, it was like, 'Oh fuck.'"

He added, "We didn't give up on the band but you can't force a singer into a situation. It's got to just kind of happen. So playing a few weeks ago with that singer, it seemed really natural. So we'll see. I'll come back to you on that."

Jimmy Gnecco of OURS sang lead vocals on three songs ("Slither" by VELVET REVOLVER, "It's So Easy" by GUNS N' ROSES and "Hey Joe" by JIMI HENDRIX) during the Road Recovery concert with Slash, McKagan, Sorum, Gilby Clarke (ex-GUNS N' ROSES) and Dave Kushner (VELVET REVOLVER). Fan-filmed video footage of his performance can be seen below.

I still don't think Slash is really into it, anyway.

That's not all Slash is planning to do before the end of the year, however. He says Velvet Revolver will also get together in December to "spend some time with a couple of singers -- that's all I can tell you."

I agree with you. He decided on another record and tour before even thinking about VR. I think he is only trying to avoid killing the band right now, maybe because of Matt and Duff. I mean, Loaded played for 600 people on Rio last week...

I agree with you. He decided on another record and tour before even thinking about VR.

I think the major issue with Slash is, again, the "lead singer" issue.  He fears having to go through all the bullshit all over again with VR.  On the other hand, he's got a solid solo band that is ready to just jump in and write songs, release records, and tour behind them.  So yeah, which do you think he's going to choose right now?

As much as I'd love to see another Velvet Revolver record, I'm content with hearing Slash's solo stuff right now.

That's pretty damn good for a band with no promotion or singles.  When VR was debuting, their crowds weren't much bigger than that.  I was at a VR show in 2004 and 600 people was about the attendance.

I saw VR in 2004 also at a venue that holds maybe 1000. As I remember, when VR was formed Slash said that they wanted to play small venues to get sweaty with the crowd. That small venue turned out to be one of the best concerts of my life.

Same here.  I saw VR before they released their first album, on one of their very first shows.   Cool

Guy has a good studio voice anyway, if you are into Bono.

If he gets the job, it will be as if Bono joined Velvet Revolver.

Whatever, so few actual rock bands left, I'm hoping VR keeps makin music. They were awesome live.

Neither do I... too bad I'd rather hear VR, then anything solo from Slash.
