I was sending the twitter updates last night @cliffmansfield.

Here are a few thoughts on the show:

I was on the floor and was three people back from the barrier.   Amazing!

Axl sounded better than he has on any youtube video that I have seen for the last several years.  He hit every note, and was near flawless.  I cannot express how awesome the vocals were.  You could tell he knew how good he sounded, and he was pumped about it.  It was trying out some higher notes as the night went on and NAILING them.

Axl was in a VERY happy mood, smiling, laughing, talking between songs and cracking jokes.  It seemed like he had a blast, I think the 5 encore songs show that.

Ron put his guitar don into the front row and played the neck while Rick Dunsford (from this board) strummed it.

Axl told the story of how he was arrested the last time he was in Atlanta, and how Doc McGhee (who was managing Motley Crue at the time) tried to smooth it over.

Axl sang about two lines of Folsom Prison Blues and the guitars played two measures.   It was all a joke...

Axl went over how many years each person had been in the band..all but DJ have 6 years or more.

They performed the full version of Don't Cry.

The crowd loved Riff Raff and Whole Lotta Rosie.

A surprising number of people on the floor were singing along with the Chinese Democracy songs.

Axl commented several times about how awesome the crowd was, he seemed genuinely pleased, and paid it back to the audience

DJ and Ron did a lot of crowd interaction.  DJ went into the crowd during Paradise City.

The crowd really seemed to be into DJ.

There was a lot of women's underwear on the stage during Paradise City.

The confetti, pyro, and celebration at the end of Paradise City were INSANE live.

At the end the band did a curtain call, bowed arm in arm.  Axl took the mic one last time, thanked everyone, and said they sincerely hoped to be back.

If someone can tell me how to post pics on here, I will add them later on this evening.

Great reviews of the show.  Seems like band was in top form.  In the Atlanta article, it mentions the arena was half full.  Any idea on actual attendance?  Any idea what the average has been for the first four shows?

My Review.

Keller Helen opened the show.  Not really into sreamcore, but they weren't horrible.  They had some personality and the singer's voice isn't bad until he goes into death-scream mode.

Buckcherry was next.  I am not a fan, but there guitar player ain't bad and the singer how some presence and a decent rock voice.  Unfortunately, his lyrics and everything that came out of his mouth is completely idiotic.  Thank god he didn't end up being the singer for VR.

GNR came on at 10:45, 45 minutes after Buckcherry, that has to be some kind of record for Axl.  They burned through the first 5-6 songs without hardly a pause.  Axl's voice was in top form.  His voice right is as strong as I have heard it since 87-88.  Then they played Rocket Queen followed immediately by Estranged.  Those are maybe my favorite two songs of all-time, so I was happy.  Estranged was particularly good.  Ron nailed the guitar lines.   Another highlight was November Rain.  NR isn't one of my favorites, but the crowd was into it, the band nailed it, and the pyro was cool.  I heard some complaining about all the solos, but I thought all three guitarists did interesting solos.  I thought DJ Ashba's was really good.  I was pretty psyched to hear Whole Lotta Rosie.  I loved GNR's verison since I heard a bootleg of it 20 years ago.  Heaven's Door was really good also, Axl really nailed it.  There wasn't really a weak performance of any song.  My only complaint is that my legs were so tired by the end that I could barely stand up, guess I'm getting old.  Also, Phillip Arena's acoustics suck, I would have preferred to see them in a smaller venue.  Axl was in the best mood I have ever seen him be in.  He joked with the crowd and several times told us how aewsome we were.  He must have found some extra-strentght Prozac. Smiley  I know AJC said the arena was half-empty, but when GNR went on I would say it was at least 2/3 full.  By 1:30 am, the crowd had thinned but those left were still into it.  There were numerous panties and bras thrown onstage.  After Paradise City there wer some in the crowd chanting for more, I for one was done.  Overall, maybe the best show I have been to, definitely better than 2006 (and that wasn't bad).  I was worried after watching Rock In Rio, but GNR delivered better than I imagined.
