NEW VERSION OF ESTRANGED = NOT COOL AT ALL   (That`s for shitty bands) no GUNS N ROSES

I'll definitely back you up on that.  Only aging bands in the twilight of their careers, who are desperate to boost record sales, will do this sort of thing.

And as others have suggested, it's a waste of time to re-record "Estranged" because you can't improve on perfection, and it's not going to erase Slash's shadow any.

U really didn't just say that did u Gypsy?

Jimi's version is COMPLETELY different whereas this would simply be a retread of what already is recorded.

I think it would definitely a cool thing to hear, and why not. As long as it don't take anything away from GN'R concentrating on new material, if it's something that everybody was up for, and it could be done in a few weeks using various takes, then whats the harm.

I'm also one of those who would kill to hear the re-recorded appetite from the Nu GN'R. And I agree that what we've heard of Sweet Child from Big Daddy, is definitely better than the original in terms of guitar work (Robin rocks).  Cool

I think this band is on fire at the moment, so why not use them to their best abilities. I think this band would more than do justice to the UYI 2 version of this song. But I also agree that at this point newer material should be higher on the agenda, but again in saying that, all of the songs that will feature on CD 2 might have already been written 3-5 years ago.  Shocked

And add that to the fact that Bob Dylan is arguably the worst "big" recording artist in history.  Any garage band can do a better version of a Dylan recording than Dylan's original.  The same cannot be said about a masterpiece like "Estranged".

Also, GypsySoul, you completely misinterpreted my (accurate) point that re-recording "Estranged" would be a desperate attempt for one band to cash in on their past songs (like many past-their-prime bands do) by re-recording them with different lineups.  This is not quite the same as a band covering another artist with a completely different version of the song.  GNR covering Dylan's "Knockin' on Heaven's Door" is a perfect example, and vastly different than redoing "Estranged".

Why not share it for free through Facebook or the official website? They don't have to sell it.
Anyway, I'm not against it, as Estranged if my fav song, along with Sorry and TIL. But the drums are somehow getting in the way of the song for me, hence why I wouldn't mind some reworking - but not asking for it. I'm so completely happy with everything the band has done, what I felt hearing the songs, going to shows.

Wow, just wow....  Sloppy shredding over the chord progression created by Izzy while trying to cop Slash's solo is just a cheap cover..  And required no thought.  All robin had to know what key the song was in, and just shred...  Where as Slash put together one of the most iconic solo's ever recorded.

Even if they don't sell it, it doesn't change the fact that it's a pointless retread of a classic masterpiece that will NOT sound better than the original.  Not to mention the waste of money paying musicians and studio fees to re-record a 20 year old song that won't serve any purpose other than to "wow" the 4 or 5 people on this website who actually care to hear it.

Also, it amazes me how some of you harshly criticize Slash for allegedly dwelling on his GNR past, yet the same lot of you turn around and encourage Axl to do exactly the same thing, which would be the case if Axl re-recorded "Estranged" (or any other old GNR song).

A nice iTunes single release would be sweet, maybe a little EP of re-written/recorded songs.

That's kind of funny seeing as Robin doesn't ever shred, that's a term used for Rons or Buckets playing, not Robins. Anyway, why are you bringing Robin into it, is he apart of the current GN'R who are playing Estranged live?. No, we are talking about a re-recorded Estranged from the current GN'R, who are Ron, Richard and DJ.

And I would still love to hear it, and why are you presuming it will consist of shredding over Izzys chords, have you listened to Estranged from the current tour live by GN'R?. It is played to perfection and there is no shredding over chords, and there is no one badly trying to cover Slash. In my view the current GN'R play Estranged live, much better than the band of 91-93 ever did.  Cheesy

That is actually a reasonable way for this to be released, if it was ever to happen. Something that the hardcore fans could listen to and appreciate, after they listen to GN'R's new single or release. I think it would be a good way to reward the loyal fans, and at the same time intrugue new fans into thinking "oh, the Nu GN'R have re-recorded Estranged, I'll check it out and see how they did".  Smiley

And we all know that the current band rock the hell outta Estranged, so then the casual fan will be blown away by the talent and skill level of Guns N' Roses today... then this will hopefully lead to them checking out more material.  ok
